For Healers, raiding in World of Warcraft Shadowlands is pretty hard and requires the healer to KNOW a lot of things. In this guide I talk about all those big and little things you must know to perform well in raids.

How to heal a raid in WoW:

1) The preparation
Enchantments:
Leech/stamina on the cloak
Int/mana on the chest
+15 INT on the bracers (+10 if you’re poor)
Whatever is BiS on your rings, I went crit because Shammys want that
All sockets gemmed.
Those things are mostly cheap

CONSUMABLES
Food;
a flask (BfA’s greater flasks will do for normal);
Embalmer’s oil (helps a ton over time)
mana potions (in long fights, use them EARLY so that you can use them for the second time!)
a battle potion
Tome of Still Mind – to reset the skills if you need to adjust between encounters

Watch the guides (I will be posting healer specific guides this weekend on my channel so remember to subscribe!)

2) The bosses and your class
Know what mechanics will do damage to your team. I will be dropping some guides about Castle Nathria specifically, but you should be prepared to heal the tank when the big damage comes.
Most healers come with LONG cooldowns that can heal everyone up to full, which you will just NEED to have ready for certain phases. This does not mean you have to be keeping them for Christmas BUT it will usually be your responsibility if the raid wipes during a hard phase because your spells weren’t ready.
For instance, Shaman’s healing tide totem or Ascendance is a MUST for Phase 3 of Huntsman Altimor and the intermission in Sun King’s Salvation. It’s borderline impossible to outheal that damage unless all healers are overgeared so you need to do as much as possible to alleviate that.
You can and SHOULD use them when things go badly before those phases. With enough experience you can tell how much time is left until the next phase, so you should be FINE using the 3min cooldown early in Altimor fight for instance.
Play Smart!
Also, the last person you want to be healing is yourself so play smart. Dodge what you can, pop your personal defensive cooldown when you have to soak or are a target of some sort of direct damage, use your health potion over healing self. If you don’t do that, you waste the time you should be using on healing all those DPS monkeys who stand in fire.
Use mana efficient spells and make sure your mana is high at all times. For instance, Shamans have healing wave and healing surge. Surge is a faster cast but heals for less and costs more mana. If you spam it during a longer fight, you will run oom halfway through and everyone will wipe because of you.

3) Remind your team to heal themselves:
if you can’t help at a given time, remind those monkeys to use Healthstones and health potions!
It is better with a guild!

4) the technical bits:
Use Deadly Boss Mods for mechanics notifications;
Steal someone’s raid frames to be more efficient;
use Weak Auras to optimize the cooldowns you tend to forget about
Use Details! recount to track your output and to compare your rotations those of other healers of the same class – you learn a TON this way!

  1. Hey Mikefield, I subbed a couple days ago, really love your content. I main Rshammy, and am finding myself trying to find the right build for my raiding. I have a question that Im wondering if you can answer. Why does the shaman community consider cloudburst totem the Go To for level 45 talent, and why doesnt downpour get more looks? thanks in advance!
