World of Warcraft: Shadowlands has been an expansion that many of us have given up on, choosing instead to play either Classic World of Warcraft, The Burning Crusade, or move on to other MMORPGs and their communities. With forgettable gameplay, a boring storyline, and an emphasis more on making political statements than making memorable and epic gaming experiences, Blizzard’s reputation has fallen into being a near-laughing stock in the gaming community as a whole. But is it all really that bad?

Recently, here on Nixxiom, we made a video called “Should We Give Shadowlands Another Chance?” which many of you were very divided on. Some supported the idea, saying that Shadowlands Patch 9.2 was one definately worth checking out and playing. Others said to just give up on World of Warcraft entirely, move on and find a new main game to play. And although there might be truth and joy to be found in both those points of view, I had to come up with a conclusion for myself. Is Shadowlands worth playing again? Recently over on my stream I decided to reinstall World of Warcraft and put this divisive expansion to the test once again. This is my story…

  1. Idk. I wouldnt get to hopeful for Dragonflight being good. They are trying to use an attribute calculator to build their characters in their story now. Except instead of cool attributes it focuses on things like gender and sexuality and color. I was cautiously optimistic. Now I am cautiously cautious.

  2. Came back to WoW after the interviews and whatnot were released for Dragonflight. Blizzard seems to be addressing many of the issues I've had with the game, and their supposed change in design philosophy has me feeling optimistic. Also, switching servers ended up being a good idea; my server was not a good one for the Alliance. As a result of that and the lackluster experience I had with Shadowlands and all the drama within the community, the game felt quite dead and tedious. Coming back after the announcement and switching servers not only made the game feel alive again, I am also having fun again… finishing up quests, achievements, leveling alts, etc, in preparation for Dragonflight. The guild I joined got me back into PvP too; I was going to take a break from it until the next expansion, as I didn't really have a good experience with it during the previous season.

FF14 bored me to tears, and my ex-main MMORPG, SWTOR, doesn't seem to be doing well. I am glad that Blizzard isn't giving up on WoW. God forbid if Dragonflight ends up as another mediocre experience.

  3. I think you're doing it wrong. See I play Khorne, Chaos God, on Faelina. I also play as Leman Russ on Benediction… And I play about the same time i would take to make up a 40k army and 3-4 turns of table top play… which is about 2 hours. I pretend I'm on a feudal world, in the 40k Universe.. not azeroth. I view all the WoW stuff as exterminatus or a place to gather skulls for the skull throne. Playing wow and wanting more out of it will never happen… you have to play wow and pretend you're playing a game that Developers will never make because they lack vision, skill, and resources.

  4. If you are enjoying it play it. Myself I didn't play any of this expansion, and if it wasn't for my friends wanting to play classic + TBC I woiuldn't have been subbed. Going to try the next expansion with my friends.

  5. I'd say don't bother, as per the standard of how WoW is run, once Dragonflight hits literally everything you did in 9.2 will almost immediately become obsolete and worthless. If for some reason anyone is thinking about jumping back into WoW instead of just playing a number of other much better MMOs, then at least wait for the next expansion.

I would also say wait a bit after it's release to see how people react to it, incase it's like BfA or SL and be a huge waste of time, BUT if you do that cause, once again, with how WoW works you'll end up falling behind the mandatory curve and you'll have to grind your shit off once you do hop in just to be able to do the little bit of content left at the end of the game that serves as the only bit Blizz seems to care about.

So yeah, wait for Dragonflight, imho, but if you're set on jumping back in for some reason then you might as well just go for the high board and dive into the deep end right away. Might be a waste of money and time, but that's just a risk you take by playing WoW instead of basically any other big MMO…..

  6. Joined since not playing in over a year, 9.2 stuff is pretty good but it's still shadowlands at the end of the day. They have done a great job getting rid of the stuff that should have never been put in the expansion in the first place.
