Before you fly to AQ40, make sure you visit Warsmith Sigfinna in the Storm Peaks, located at 47.4, 70.4. This is south of the cave where you see “Brunnhildar Village” on your map. Purchase the Brunnhildar Great Axe and enchant it with “Deathfrost”.

The reason you need this weapon, with this enchant, is because you need to freeze Viscidus, then shatter him, to defeat him
Next, make sure you have a 1 handed weapon, iLevel 140 or less. There are lots of uncommon 1 handed weapons that you can buy from the auction house which have 131 iLevel, so that you enchant it with “Gale-Force Striking”.

1. The first thing you’ll want to do is set your talents. I’ve opted to use: Zeal, Fires of Justice, Seraphim, and Crusade. The other talent options are up to you and not really impactful to completing this.

2. Next: create a haste set of gear, with at least 24-25% haste. You’ll notice in this video that I have a bit more than 25% haste. As time has gone on, I’ve acquired some additional haste pieces and have been using them to be safe. Early on I was using a lot of the PVP gear with some haste, but nowhere near that much.

3. Next, a haste set of gear which has the Brunnhildar Great Axe and a second set of gear using the one handed weapon you chose + a shield.
Viscidus freezes after a certain amount of frost hits and shatters after around 40 or so mele/physical hits. Do not use spells. You will want to keep an eye on the chat to see when he freezes, and if you are entering his frozen phase with a charge of crusader strike on cooldown, you may just want to auto-attack and use blade of judgement/templar’s verdict, to freeze him.

Your key abilities during this will be Crusader Strike and Judgment. You will not be able to use blade of justice without a 2 handed weapon equipped. While it is not needed, I have opted into using a shield, to be able to use Shield of the Righteous during the few windows that both Crusader Strike and Judgement are on cooldown. This allows me to also proc stacks of Crusade.

Keep in mind that Seraphim and Crusade stacks are BOTTOM priority. Use Crusader Strike and Judgment as soon as they are available and only use the others as spenders when you have nothing else.

Lastly, I made a “Viscidus Macro” the goal of this macro is to swap to my 1 handed weapon and shield, use my drums, my potion, my darkmoon trinket, start attacking, and use crusader strike. Use this as soon as he is frozen. You could also use and save 2 armor sets, put them on your bar, and click between them.

  1. you actually don't need the 2h weapon, you can just get the enchantment "elemental force" and put it on any weapon this also works and you don't need to do the questing for the 2h axe.

  2. This amount of preparation needed is utterly ridiculous from Blizzard from a vanilla instance where all bosses can be one shotted. Utterly ridiculous.

  3. 9.25 version
Used the same talents as vid
instead of using the specific weapons in the vid I went for the Terracotta Fragment (from mists valley Jonn-Dar rare near nesingwary's safari area)
have terracotta fragment (trinket) equipped before fight
Started with a one hander ilvl 30 with deathfrost until frozen (took a bit of time)
switched to a two hander ilvl 95 with Gale force striking, popped the trinket.
I had level 53 ret with an average ilvl of about 85, with a total of 9.61% haste and forgot to pop any cooldown other than the trinket but was still able to finish the shatter.

with the same set up minus the trinket, my ret level 50 and avg ilvl of 53 with 12.13 haste was not able to take down the frozen portion.

My mage can dispense with the first weapon and just use a dagger and the trinket.

terracotta trinket is not a guaranteed drop from Jonn-dar but have farmed it in less than a day on multiple characters and will continue to do so cause that stinking glob has two pieces of mail gear and the tier paladin piece as well as a stinking sword that I dont have yet too.
