World of Warcraft has had a subscription for over 15 years now, but is that really what’s best for the game, or would it benefit from changing to a completely free to play model?

  1. Is so easy, Blizzard should make the basegame free, but you can still paying for the token and all what it offers(all expansions content) but now is optional and is called premium suscription, like other games.
There are people like me that would rather buy each expansions we want as separated if that means we will have the game forever without paying monthly.
So everyone wins, you can still paying for the game and get access to all its content as premium member and they give us the option to have the game forever and a free basegame.
Basically they are not losing profit, basically they gets the same but would be getting more players into the game giving to their customers more buying options for the game.

  2. If they were free to play it would definitely get me; at the very least, to play through the base game. I always wanted to get into it but I was never in a position to be able to pay $15 a month for the sub when the majority of my friends were "no lifing" it. With all the alternatives you mentioned, and the fact I can't dedicate as much time as I would have been able to in the past, I'm not going to pay $15 a month at the risk of not finding any passion in the "world" or gameplay/story/lore.

  3. also not only microtranscition, also selling expansions
buy the expansion and play for free after the purchaseit feels fair to do that to reduce the number of bots, like it's okay to pay 60USD or 70USD every 2 years as bot check

  4. i tried the free trial until level 20 and it was very basic, didnt teach me much. i tried ff14 free trial and i completed the base game and the expansion and could do raids… all for free. Wow barrier to entry is way too high and not fun at the free trial, cant even do raids and experience any of the game

  5. The problem I've noticed in WoW more recently is just how so many players treat the game like their job, there's not enough casual players to just fuck around with and hang out in the free world because everyone else is too focused on being as optimal as possible, trying to make the most out of their monthly sub, not "wasting" a single minute. By making the game free to play, not only does that problem disappear, but that could also mean WoW would be seeing big numbers of new players like never before. I've known countless people who want to get lost in the world of Azeroth, but to them the thought of a monthly sub is beyond unreasonable and tbh, after Blizzard kept adding more paid content into the game, they are totally right. It IS unreasonable.
