I think some are under the impression I disliked the video, which is just wildly untrue. I found it very impressive that he was able to put so much detail within a short time frame. The issue I have is the the concept of that itself, not his execution of it. I personally think, if the summary was longer he could have included even more details without having to rush to cram it all within 23 minutes. I personally struggle to retain info if its given to me extremely fast, that's not a problem with the video. I reacted to this in a way that would ensure I'd retain as much as I could. Pausing, rewinding, stopping when necessary. If people don't like that? That's okay.
You should watch apex lore Cinematics good lore there !!!! And I like your videos
23:45 Part of the reason arthas killed those people was because they would become a MASSIVE army of undead, stratholm was a city that rivaled their capital in terms of size.
That's the history of wow up to shadowlands so basically most of it except dragonflight and whatever is coming in war within and the expansions afterwards
Nobbel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8VaqpkJqwc&ab_channel=Nobbel87),
Platinum WoW (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arZuhE0luwA&ab_channel=PlatinumWoW), and
The Lost Codex (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8gbJV8yXJg&ab_channel=TheLostCodex) are YouTube channels that are very great at explaining Warcraft lore in greater depth.
Once you start playing WoW, Bellular [Warcraft] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOjRiCWtaMo&ab_channel=BellularWarcraft ) and Captain Grim (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cMkQRBknto&ab_channel=CaptainGrim ) are great content creators to check out. Bellular goes over lore, current content, and general news while Captain Grim makes hilarious videos about the player experience.
If you really want to play the game from the beginning, I strongly suggest playing through WoW Classic first. Just so you can experience the game in almost the same state as when people fell in love with the game. It might be a little rough around the edges, but it's a pretty special experience for a first time player. An experience that the modern game sort of lacks.
No additional cost, btw. It's free with your subscription.
The culling of Stratholme is a full mission on Warcraft 3.
Would love to see you react to the movie!
You're right, this is one is way too fast and compacted. I highly recommend chekcing the analogical video by Nobbel87 titled The Story of Warcraft – Full Version 2.0. I shared it on Discord yesterday too.
Platinum WoW is also great! His video's are great for reactions because they're also very funny.
Bless you for attempting to understand this story so deep in. Regardless how deep it goes, its a great story. Even though it feels like a fever dream.
WoW lore is such a chaotic, confusing, beautiful mess. You have to start every attempted explanation with an apology. I loved seeing peoples reaction when it slowly starts to click though!
Ah man you cant really play world of warcraft from the very beginning. You can go play classic wow 2004 version of wow. Or you can play retail. And retail is basically going to have you jump into the game around the Battle For Azeroth era (7th expansion) Then about after 5hrs of gameplay youll hit lvl 60 and youll immediately be taken to the current expansion Dragonflight (9th expansion) where youll lvl 60 – 70.
Over the years during the game's peak the wow community has expressed how much they hate leveling, and dont care about the story warcraft so Blizzard has modified the game to get players to the end game as fast as possible. Blizzard only really focuses on keeping their current player base, and not give much thought to the new player experience, which is just awful imo.
Warcraft 1 starts with the "First War" (16:59) – the Orcs vs. Humans. Everything that came before that is just lore that is explained retroactively throughout the game series and books.
Which is also why there is some level of ambiguity about the events that haven't been directly observed in any of the games – there's been a number of retcons, continuity errors, etc. that makes the story somewhat confusing these days.
The first game's premise was extremely simple: Orcs invade the Human lands and the Humans fight back.
The second game was a little more complex, but ultimately boiled down to a continuation of the Orcs vs. Humans premise, with some additional bits of lore.
The third game was when the story actually started getting more nuanced and complicated, with multiple factions, ancient lore, betrayals, plot twists, and a few retcons.
WoW and it's many expansions have since both elaborated immensely on the lore AND made a complete mess of the continuity – leading to a lot of debate among fans.
Nobbel87 is known as the lore prophet of warcraft in the community. You want to know anything story and lore based, the deep background of certain lore characters. Go to Nobbel he has a video on it.
So to give the "Player Characters killing Old Gods" bit some context. Originally when we did these things Blizzard implied that we just weakened them enough for their jails to work again but after we defeated the "last" imprisoned Old God in Battle for Azeroth they said that we did indeed kill them. Players debated on if we actually killed them or if the Devs are working us into believing they are dead. Also in certain cases Big Bads that are obviously out of the player characters power to defeat usually have context to how (Like The Titans helping us kill Argus, a newly born World Soul Titan")
Arthas killed Ner'zhul before WotLK. He won the fight inside and is the true Lich King
Ace, you're fantastic. When you do get around to playing i'd love to help. This video, however, is trash. The dud is clearly trying to imitate history o the entire world, but without any of the things that made that video good. This dude speedrunning the lore with dead jokes was awful and you deserved a better lore breakdown. If you want a friendly loremaster, dm me. lol.
Thats the neat part. he is leaving details out.
A key aspect about his speed talk is that it forces you to go back and rewatch in chunks. Which actually helps you retain the info better than just a long drawn out lecture about what happens.
One of us! One of us! Come play!
It's A LOT to digest. I appreciate your effort, and it's cool to see when things click into place for you. That video is a little hyper lol. It's hard to even process it with the little blurbs he puts here and there. Kudos to you for diving in.
Nobbel87 and Platinum wow are the best for lore videos (imo), hell Platinum narrated the latest official wow video for Classic
This game's story doesn't always make sense and it never will, we just went along with it and is kind of the beef players have with the story. They retconned a lot over the years but this video caught most of the big important stuff as it is currently.
I would recommend watching any video on wrathion's story, he was a new character in cataclysm, and he's still around, he influenced some events in the story.
Another character's story worth looking into is xalatath..
The Culling of Stratholme was the start of Arthas' downfall. I'm definitely with Jaina on this one.
If someone asks for a merciful death, it's okay in my opinion. But they didn't even know.
They don’t have babies. They just are. The planets birth them. All though the planet is more of a shell.
He is leaving a lot of details out
I discovered your channel just a few days ago, and I'm loving this WoW content. I've been playing since 2002 Friends and Family Alpha, and love the game-world so much, that it's reinvigorating to see it all over again through fresh eyes. The lore is incredibly deep, with multiple novels spawning from multiple games. Even I can't possible absorb all of it, but that doesn't stop me from loving it when I hear/see it.
I genuinely appreciate your takes on WoW. Having also played FF, I know it'll be a bit of a shock, mechanically. The two games share a bit, obviously, so the comparison vids will be great, and I can't wait. If you find yourself on the Hyjal server, or one of the servers in our Battlegroup (the server cluster), we'll have to run a dungeon or two once you get in the game. Love the content, and keep up the great work! 😀
arent the sand trolls not called farraki and not zul farrak(thats their city-.-)
that lore vid has some big things missing and sadly is way too fast to be actually enjoyable (maybe you should watch platinium wow he makes shorter stuff thats also funny and he makes lore vids for blizzard)
One big thing this video did get completely wrong is the whole killing Old Gods thing. Mortals cannot kill Old Gods, all we did was push them back into their prison. If left unchecked they will inevitably return, it's not a matter of if but when.
Nobbel and Platinum wow are the Lore kingpins.
I know a bunch have said it, nobbel is a great creator for lore. Really good and gets into the lore. If you want something kinda fun platinumwow is a great character with lot of fun lore videos
To be fair wow isn't really good at telling it's story ingame
So you'll miss most stuff anyway
Also, im sure you maybe heard this already. But this guy mispronounced many names such as Archimond and others
World-souls are born out of masses of energy.
titans do not give birth to world-souls.
the video did not mention titans giving birth to world-souls.
he mentioned titans were basically hatched from planets.. and then went to look for others.
there is literally no mention of coupling or giving birth to others.
Dude. I love your reactions, but like half your questions would be answered if you'd stop pausing and actually listened.
Whats the point of making a 20 minute video if the viewers needs double that time to fully understand it all?😂
When you say the very beginning do you starting with classic?
The whole "playing through wow from the beginning" thing wont really work for new players, it shoehorns you into the new player experience which is from BfA, in 2018. You could of course level more characters after that.
just a detail… You asked if Sargeras is really that strong
Remeber that MASSIVE sword from new War Within expansion? Guess who it belonged to
Now really, what you must understand is that this video is kind of joke that skims over lot of things in as funny way. I would not use it as an lore introduction, even tough it is technically accurate.
Also lot of lore had been deepened or outright retconned in past five or six years, sp there is lot of differences that sometimes change the entire meaing of some events
Platinum wow has some of the best/entertaining lore videos to react to, and the hurricane trailers for each of the patches are interesting to see the environments and super hype
Check out noble his videos are long but slow and detailed
