In 2005, unlike today, thoughts of Pandemics were far from most people’s minds. But at this time World of Warcraft was almost brought to it’s knees as the contaminated Blood Plague pandemic swept through server after server. The plague spread with alarming speed across all corners of the World… of Warcraft, eventually infecting over 4 million players. What was most intriguing were the actions of individuals in the game as the plague spread. There were those who turned martyr, risking their own health to save others while there were some who deliberately tried to spread the infection far and wide.

  1. i'm sure this vid's fine but wtf is with that intro? the last SARS outbreak was in 2003, barely 2 years before this happened. almost 1000 people died! there were cases in the US! obviously there were Other Things happening on the news in the first half of 2003 but "international pandemic with a bunch of people dying" was definitely not unheard of in 2005 and it feels sort of flippant to say it was.

  2. One thing you forgot to mention in this video is that the Blood Plague didn't fade away naturally. Blizzard had to revert the entire game back several days, basically like a time machine.

  3. Deliberately breaching quarantine doesn't even begin to describe it. There was literal cultists harboring the blood plague in the mountains after they made it so you couldn't take it out of the raid. They even used it as inspiration for the pre-release events for wrath of the lich king.

  4. So the original attack move from the creature that used this attack move was just repeated by everyone that came into contact with any other players character. The software script was never ending. πŸ•°οΈπŸ’©πŸŒžπŸŒ‘οΈπŸ”₯πŸŒ€πŸŒŠπŸŒ‹πŸŒͺ️😭πŸ€ͺπŸ˜«πŸ˜…πŸ˜΅πŸ˜œπŸ΅πŸŒšπŸ€ πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡²β˜’οΈπŸ’₯β˜ οΈπŸ’€βš°οΈ

  5. Man this takes me back. I left the game halfway through Cataclysm's life but played from the beginning. This was pure chaos and I personally enjoyed it. I wasn't max level so I mostly avoided the cities.

  6. I missed the Corrupted Blood incident.
what I did not miss was the World event leading up to the Launch of the Lich king whit the undead horde swarming everyone.
I have a story from that if anyone is interested.
