Actually, if u get 200 fishing and have the fishing pole from the vendor you will get like 1 gray per 300 fishes
You can try ardenwield fishing + cooking, pretty decent gold

The only upside to fishing for gold is you can easily watch a show while doing it.
There is a potential strategy where you take an item that doesn't sell well and undercut by high amount, so that goldmaking snipers buy all your stock in attempt to make profit from auction house flip. However, if this strategy doesn't work and your high undercut stays up for too long people start using that as a new norm.
Not sure if that's what happened here, but that's one possible explanation. Or lack of knowledge. Never underestimate the stupid.
