The waiting is nearly over, patch 9.1 Chains of Domination launches June 29th and 30th to a lot of hangry players. But is this Blizzard’s last chance at bringing back players disillusioned after such a long wait? We brush on the upcoming features and last minute changes.
Also, inspired by my exploration in Final Fantasy XIV, I take lessons learned from its storytelling design and see how it can apply to World of Warcraft. You might this retelling of Battle for Azeroth interesting!

  1. A lot of our raiderds are mostly salte becouse they went and released it just at the summer vacation. Finally people are taking some time off, and then they release the patch. But we can't raid becouse everyone is gone on vacation. And that makes it feel like you fall behind. If they had released 1 month earlier, or 1 month later. That would not be an issue. But releasing a new raid when it's near impossible to get enougj people for a mythic-group is just frustrating.

  2. IDK, I hope the game can grab my interest again >.<. The only reason I kept playing was so my raid team didn't fall bellow 20 people, since all of our bench stopped playing. The past couple of months for me have just been logging in for raid and doing a couple of weekly 15s

  3. Make it easier to collect older things. Innovate in storytelling and factions, have things like torghast drop old items for collection transmog that isnt restricted by grind and huge time sinks where you have to numb your brain. Give me player housing, and more innovation like transmog was. Really design around content not aimed for min maxers. Till then no sirre

  4. Good idea for the patch cycle. As for the player experience I Honestly, I would bring back, "bring the player, not the character"… BUUUUUUUUT…. instead of making the classes harmonious I would make alts easier. I would make it so at the "hubs" you can change characters (cities and garrison) and you actually see them walking around the hub doing things. Maybe you can even assign them jobs to level skills while not being played.

I'd make all gear is Bind to account instead of bind to character. There will be an "account level" and "character level". Keep the character levels low. Lets say 20 levels. But the account level can cap at let us say… 60… Each class you cap you get 1 level, then you get levels for simply completing content. As for the purpose for the account level? The account level can be used to gate story content. This way experienced players can just switch and play where they want. New players have to go through the major story beats at least. Leveling can also give "lootboxes" to choose from of different kinds or tokens to turn in at a shop to buy more inventory space, cosmetics, resources and so on.

I have other ideas but I would go on blathering.

  5. I left just over 6 months ago and way before the Exodus happening. I just wont be coming back. I'm been playing FF and Valheim since its release. In August i'll be playing New World on it's release. There is no reason for me to return. I just watch Soul for the humor!

  6. Community in ff14 feels nice because they have a 0 tolerance to toxicity policy to the point you see the usual WoW types that rage at people in dungeons cry ""Waaah I am too scared to even slightly criticize someone in the ingame chat because they ll report me and get me banned, this is toxic casualism!"
Tip: I ve qued into many extreme Ramuh with sprouts and simply explaining mechanics without targeting people or attacking them is safe, when some want to moan and bitch at someone specifically, they thankfully can be reported and I have reported such people myself.

When these people complain, you know SE is doing the right thing, though this is sadly something I doubt Blizzard would ever adopt because first of all, it has normalized toxicity since everything is about achievements and performance which doesnt attract the friendly types and because it requires them to actually pay for more GMs which let's be honest, bobby cant lose his 3237th yatch to hire more gms.

  7. When it comes to story, I think Blizzard should quit trying to do big brain story arcs and simply go back to it being about exploration and small questing like it was in the beginning. Blizzard doesn't seem to have the writing talent to pull off a story even remotely as good as Shadowbringers, but at the same time that has never stopped World of Warcraft from becoming an astronomical success. Simple stories work too. I understand that they consumed most of the Warcraft RTS legacy so the story needs to go forward now, but I liked smaller stories like the one of Mists of Pandaria better than BfA and Shadowlands so far.

  9. If you bought the skip to not do ARR I'd say there's no issue with that. Literally the worst part of the game. Coming from WoW the combat is so damn slow, even once you get OGCD abilties its still kinda slow. The storyline is pretty generic too ARR does a real disservice in showing the game's strengths.

compare the jailer to emet selch, who is more interesting? the jailer just seems like a generic bad guy doing generic bad guy things. emet has more depth. we really don't learn much about the jailer, so theres little reason to view him as a huge threat

  10. I will not be paying for sub or game time related to this expansion.
I don't want ro waste my time playing to get random loot… I can play the roulette if I crave that sort of experience.

I understand that they need us playing and spending so they can ear… But this is just too much, roulette is not gameplay for a mmorpg.

  11. I’m calling it now if yrell comes back I wouldn’t be surprised if we go back to alternate draenor which would lead to world of Warcraft return to draenor and finally get faralon

  12. I can speak only for myself, but im not comming back. Game is boring as hell even with new content. New messed up systems on top of other systems makes Game feel like early beta over and over and i rather play tbc classic. Im not quite happy also with story telling since some time. From time perspective Christe Golden influence gave poor results. Since WoD one positive thing was Illidans redemption storry and lets say Uldir related things… anyways im done with retail

  13. So just to clarify (and this is especially true of Heavensward and Shadowbringers)

New Expansion aka .0 – introduces leveling content (which tells a complete story) plus 4 wings of 8-man raid

.1 – new story tied to .0 plus Alliance Raid

.2 – more story plus 4 more Raid wings

.3 – concludes the .0 and .1 story plus Alliance Raid

.4 – Lays foundation for next expansion plus final raid wings

.5 – More foundation laying plus final Alliance Raid

.55 – Final bit of introduction

    Then repeat.

Raids are 8-man. Alliance Raids are 24-man.

There are also Trials – more 8-man – both in leveling and in patches. Dungeons – 4-man – scattered throughout the .0 story and at least one introduced in each patch (Every dungeon in the MSQ is part of the story and required) and there are often additional optional dungeons.

By doing 5 patches there is never a post-Wrath or post-Mists 14 month content drought. New players do all the questing and see all the story so they aren't left wondering what happened between, for example, the end of BFA leveling and start of Shadowlands – it isn't a time-limited event that they'll never see.

And finally Soul can stand by what he said. And so can those of us who explained why his critique was rendered meaningless by the way he leveled.

  14. Tried ffxiv and just couldn't get on with it, didn't like the classes but the storytelling and community were good, wow could really learn from the other big mmos. Crafting and housing for instance.

I'd come back to wow just to grief you but you are not worth it

  16. I think Warcraft will continue to go through the massive amounts of people joining then massive amounts leaving forever.
They make enough money now that building a coherent and consistent game is just not needed anymore.
The “world” of Warcraft will never be back
