Narratively, Illidan is a sort of anti-hero like The Punisher despite, being portrayed at first like an underdog. You have MANY themes in his story; love triangle, general rejection, unrequited affection, propensity towards impulsivity, very intellectual but self-destructively as well. etc. etc. In the novel, "Illidan" (worth a good listen to ngl. You just get a really good vibe for what it's like in his head lol), he refers to a subordinate that questions if he does what the Legion wants, and his rebuttle is simply, "I serve myself". Also that of his jailor/pursuer Maive (The Warden that struck him). But, it's not true, because he himself comes after alot of, "unfortunate research" to the conclusion; there must be an end to all this senseless wanton murder of world after world after world. In other words, he's consumed by the anger of murdering innocent worlds entirely, that he's determined to find whatever is possible to neutralize the 'threat'.
To the point it reinforces his own hatred against the Burning Legion as well as those that attempt to impose their *wills into others*. True, he does/did churn through Elves like trash compactor (100 out of 500 would survive the transformation from Elf to Demon Hunters). But, they'd form a singular unique squad of specialized enhanced fighters that unlike the Legion/Demons, take no prisoners. To get there? He did do a lot of bad although with a reason at every step (even if it wasn't actually good) like draining the lives of comrades despite not needing to because he was going to lose in one of these contextual fights either way? Lol.. But it helps in attributing a sense of being impulsive.
He goes from a socially rejected youth that was mischevious to an epic demon hunter & eventually the "warden/jailor" of the very One who burned out Illidan's eyes, and was the reason for why he changes the trajectory of his entire life in EVERY aspect.
The chills when Illidan finally said "You ARE Prepared" were absolutely nuts. As soon as Legion came out I made a Demon Hunter. It's still one of my favorite classes, but I'm just not as good with it as I am Paladin, Death Knight, Mage, Shaman, and Druid. Those are my 5 main classes.
Philip: Varian is becoming my favorite character 🙂
Us watching: sweats nervously
I cant wait for I AM MY SCARS!!!
1:01:30 The fact that Illidan welcomes those who question him makes him one of my favorite anti heroes/villains. I hate it when the bad guy just goes around murdering their own followers without reason, it´s such a stupid trope. … Also the name Chiron sounds familiar, was he Hercules´ teacher?
FOR THE ALLIANCE❤️🔥
Illidian is always very Cold hearted and Power hungry. But he is a good guy.
He's more like a Anti-hero or anti-villain.
Basically do what ever it takes for better good.
Philip would make a hella-good Geralt of Rivia
there is also a scenario in the legion opening, where you go with Varian, and i didn't see the horde's side for months and was just 'mad' at them lol
not related to this stream but josh keaton, the voice actor for anduin, streams wow sometimes. it would be awesome if you got on stream with him and talked about the lore or even played some wow together
For the Alliance!
Silvanus Windrunner. A once great character. You can see it in that second to last animation. There was no plan, no smugness, no ego. She was forced into a role she didn't want nor knew what to do with.
But sadly, that was the moment Blizzard decided to kill her, and replace her with a fruad, an evil, to make a storyline, the shadowlands, which is the worse, most horrible storyarcs in the entire game, tainting the absolute best part of the lore, the Lich King and his journey and all events tied to him, including Silvanus, and destroying everything we loved about them with the reveal of the 'Jailer'.
To this day, I am still salty about the absolutely criminal treatment of Vol'jin. Poor trolls getting shafted once again.
can´t wait for more, this gave me years of life
Damn… Seeing that Ysera Cinematic again…
…
I'M NOT CRYING!
You are!
…
I haven't watched the entire video yet, so I dunno if people told you or not, but Illidan's own tattoos are kinda special, Sargeras (The Big Demon Daddy, Creator of Burning Legion) gave them to him, they basically work like a magical cage, allowing Illidan to consume and contain demon souls to make him more and more powerful.
The tattoos of the rest of Illidari are kinda arcane replications of Illidan's tattoos, but they are nowhere near as effective and powerful, they can only contain one demon within them and most of the times it fails and causes the person to either die or go mad in the process, or the demon just takes over.
The reason Illidan has wings is cause he's extremely more powerful than the rest of the Illidari, he basically consumed the entirety of main universe Gul'dan's power through his skull and he has killed and consumed a LOT of demons including major demon lords throughout the years, so he's basically like a battery that never gets filled, He's the most overpowered Warcraft character cause of that reason, while the rest of the Illidari just can't contain that much demonic energy within themselves without exploding to death.
Hell yeah! Greymane sticking it to Sylvanas is one of my favorites. And the death of Ysera was actually quite major. I hope chat explained it to you a bit.
Illidan was some of blizzards best writing. He never changed, he was exactly who hes always been. Our perspective on him had changed but thats it. Super chaotic Good.
Played wow since the start of Vanilla WoW but never really cared about the warbringer videos, Cinematic andy. But happy to see you are enjoying them.
Gul'dan disenchanted Varian
I always miss your streams because I'm from Europe, but I'm happy to watch the VODs. Thanks for keeping them up 🙂
I really enjoy watching you experience these videos with wow players! How awesome.
The Ysera (the dragon) cinematic hits incredibly hard as the character has been part of the story as one of the dragon aspects for a long time and is more or less a figurehead to the night elves and a deity figure to the druids. She's extremely deeply connected to them to the point where she's practically a mother to a lot of the druids. The worst part about this was the dragons lost a majority of their powers and their fertility to destroy Deathwing so at that point in the story the world had limited dragons. Being one of the five aspects, losing one of the protectors of the world hit incredibly hard at the time.
watch the cinematic trailer of varian in heroes of the storm is really cool
Greymane, Fluffy Man.
Back then the Worgen made me reconsider returning to WoW (always had a soft spot for Werewolves) But then found out my PC could no longer handle the Game, lol.
Well now i'm back
Philip I heard someone mention World of Warcraft novels too you. If you actually do decide to read them so you're more lore educated for your audience, make sure to read them in order because there are a ton of them. You can also get them as an audiobook, not sure if you can get them all but I know at least some. They're great reads though, definitely recommend it! Great video again man, cya in the next one!
fuck the aliance , for the horde Lok'tar
Gettin closer to REJECTION OF THE GIFT!
So what happened for the horde was that they were overrun, all the major leaders on the horde side outside of Sylvanas were losing and them as a whole where about to die if they didn't retreat. Vol'jin told her not to let the horde die, so they retreated. As for why they were being outnumbered in general, you basically learn a bit later that the whole attack was already known by the legion and they sort of lead them to a trap where they would lose many people.
There is a thrilling one you missed. Xavius corrupted Ysera. Its such a strong one.
DID HE MISS ANDUIN FINDING HIS FATHERS SWORD?????????
there's a cinematic you missed of anduin going to the broken shore where his father died with genn greymane
Not sure if anyone explained but, Varian splitting the sword is important because at one point Varian was split into 2 different humans and managed to be re-merged into one and that gave him the power to merge and split the legendary swords Shalla'tor and Ellemayne into Shallamayne at will as each version of him used one of the swords. The really cool part is that the sword was left at the broken shores when he dies and that is one of the focused parts at the end of the cinematic. But, we also know that Anduin has the sword from the War Within cinematic, this video explains it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THSowKTA61Q
Loving your channel! 😀
Did you skip BfA and go straight from Warlord to Legion? BfA was the one expansion with the most CGI cinematics
