At Blizzcon they told us that irredeemable souls go straight into the maw, but is there such a thing? A discussion we’ve had a couple of times during stream that I’d like to open up to all of you… Hope you’ll enjoy ^_^

  1. I mean what about Deathwing? In all fairness I interpreted his defeat as the dragon soul destroying him utterly. What I mean by that is 'soul itself vaporized'. You get the impression his son would have really liked to have met his uncorrupted father. But guessing that if his soul didn't get blasted he would almost certainly go straight to the maw.

  2. I have a really random thought. You know how the warcraft live action movie i believe wasn't loved.

I wonder if making a world of Warcraft anime would work. Looking at all the action animes out there i don't see why not. It's just a really interesting idea.

Who wants an anime sylvanias vs her sisters? Meee 😀

  3. I have a theory. Maybe the maw is a lie like its not a collection zone for irredeemable souls. Probably souls without judgement thrown into it pissed off the "jailer". The jailer got that nickname only because of his appearance but its has nothing to do with his purpose.

  4. I feel like sylvannas would go to the maw. She kills innocents and allies alike just to raise them as undead against their will, and keeps using that plague when everyone else is like "no, don't do that".
Even Garrosh thought using the plague was too far, forbidding her to do so in Gilneas (guess what she did it anyway)
Honestly everything she does these days betrays someone or something.

  5. But why didnt she go to ravendreth? She went straight into to the maw? It seems to me like the Arbiter knew what would happen if she lost hope and made it so. It all comes to back to Him/it

  6. In my book, Garrosh is irredeemable, more than Arthas, more than even Ner'zhul or Gul'dan.

Garrosh is the Donald Trump of Warcraft, he walks on dead bodies like it's nothing and only cares for power and domination, which (if we think back) isn't in the true nature of the orcs, which got twisted and somewhat mind-controlled, through the fel. Garrosh didn't drink the fel-blood, he wasn't one of them, he was always himself and therefore is fully accountable for all the destructive choices he made and one could argue that even after the influence of Y'shaarj he didn't change much and just stayed the way he was before, it was just a power-upgrade for the already evil destructive chaotic mind of his.

And that's why he is irredeemable in my opinion. Arthas atleast questioned himself a little bit in Stratholme, he was atleast a little bit unsure about this purge and we see little hints here and there, where he tried to influence, to manipulate his twisted mind to get a somewhat little but better outcome for some and for himself. Gul'dan got rejected, got his revenge and used his new powers, so he might be irredeemable, too but it's a little bit unclear.
Ner'zhul got tricked and he also didn't want some outcomes, in the end he's one that just made terrible decisions and got what he deserved for these decisions in return.
Garrosh did everything, fully knowing what consequences it would lead to. He did everything on purpose. I always chuckle at "Garrosh did nothing wrong" statements, because this orc did everything wrong.

  7. So if you dont "get with the program" of your society you are deemed sinful? Huh interesting I like that. Its in way respecting other cultures and maintaining order.

  8. I think that maybe someone like Kel'thuzad might be irredeemable. As far as I'm aware, he chose every single evil action off of his own back and to the very end was loyal to the lich king and the scourge. Sure he had doubtful moments, occasionally but… I doubt that he would take up the offer of repenting for his sins in Revendretht.

  9. Guess this is pretty late but hell I'll throw out my two cents on this one.

I'm wondering if this leans toward the idea of psychopathy, essentially the Maw not just being the place for the Evil souls+ but a place for those who have done the worst evil acts who literally can not feel or understand remorse.

The cases I'd go to for why I'd think of it that way is both Arthas (skip straight to the Maw, if he was irredeemable wouldn't he go there anyway?) and Garrosh. Garrosh is our stright up genocidal dictator but at some point he believed he was doing the right thing for the Horde (at least the Orcs) and he didn't go to the Maw. Lame as it was at the time the whole 'you made me this way' line does let us know he knew he'd fucked up, it's not much but that alone is the most basic sign of remorse.

For Sylvanas everything she has done since her undeath appears to have been entierly self motivated. She doesn't have remorse for the things shes done becuase it was just for her, all the errors along the way havn't had any really adverse affects on her and the hordes losses haven't mattered to her. If anything, everything after Icecrown builds on that, she wants what she wants and will get it whoever she has to step on or pretend to play nice with. (Minor side note to her going to the Maw the first time, possibly biblical reference that suicide is always a fast pass to hell but I really would prefer the idea that she is and always has been a psychopath)

TL;DR the Maw is for those who flatly can not feel remorse for what they've done (possibly why undead might go there but that's very iffy for the ones with self awareness, hell Morgrain & the death knights are clearly sorry what they've done or we'd have no Ebon Blade).

Oh and final, final thought, Gul'dan defiantely would go to the Maw based on what we get for his back story. Really old cliché but most of us get bullied but most of us don't then murder our bully and burn his house down… or become a warlock becuase you don't understand why elementals don't want to be forcefully dominated.

Apologies for the mini essay, massive fan of your work Nobbel, this one really got my thoughts going.
