Best Demon Hunter leveling spec in World of Warcraft Shadowlands can be either Havoc or Vengeance – depending on what playstyle you prefer – as both DH specs are perfectly viable in solo and group play these days.
In this video I’ll share my thoughts and experience on leveling my DH as Havoc and Vengeance in Shadowlands Campaign and Threads of Fate. I’ll also talk about what I believe is the best choice of a Covenant for a Demon Hunter, and the use of its main class ability.
Covenant choice is a matter of personal preference, but in this case I believe that both DH specs would perform the best following the path I took, and will be sharing with you today.

I just hit level 60 yesterday. Covenants are something I have been debating. I like that you get to test them out in each zone during the story. I still however don’t know what I want to go with? I like “the hunt” ability but I don’t like night fae. Kyrian covenant ability is really strong but to me it’s more of a PVE ability. I love the overall look and vibe of Necrolords. I think the mount and armor looks awesome. Their covenant ability however sucks !
I’m also considering Venthyr I like their covenant ability. I think it will be good in PVE and PVP. I also like their armor but the overall ability is not as good as Kyrians.
I’m up in the air right now ????
demon hunter feels misunderstood…i'm new player (that they say always picks demon hunter) but to be honest when your in the thick of things.. between sigils.. cleaves…soul fragments.. and transforming it feels right at home…like the "god of war" but with some magic…Thanks for making me comfortable with Vengeance DH as my main. {Lvl 25 Vengeance DH}
This was good timing! I've decided to switch back to Veng and see how it feels in SL. Havoc is fine, but I sometimes feel a bit squishy. I've been debating what Veng talents to use and I'm definitely gonna switch them up a bit and try a couple of these that I didn't choose last time.
Really enjoyed the video. I levelled as a VDH before SL and through it as well, feels like such a comfortable experience. Totally agree with the Kyrian pick – the first time I used Elysian decree on a large pack while levelling was such a great experience, I was expecting another sigil of flame and I got a sigil of BOOM. Never looked back, which is easy since the other abilities are so weak in comparison.
I would have loved to go Venthyr for the look and feel of the covenant, but as you say, having to go for the better ability instead is a shame.
Awesome vid! Been playing since the end of vanilla (off and on). I've rarely tanked but I need to just jump into it. I don't know much about the dungeons since warlords. You've given me a little courage haha.
Perfect timing. I was just about to swap back to my DH. I played DH for a little bit before SL. I would really like to know what the best rotation would be for DH? Also what add-ons do you have? Also what’s your key binds? I know a lot of questions but I really want to get super in to DH.
Went with venthyr dh because i really like their asthetics, but the main ability absolutely suuucks! Would love to go with the hunt personally but oh well..
The teleport venthyr get is pretty nice tho!
