  1. Good god, it's gotten to the point people are tier ranking these thing? Clicked through nearly 20 years of healing this damn game, wasd to move. Don't use mods, or other third party "soft" addons. Just pay attention and actually learn to play the game instead of automating everything to oblivion. Have never had an issue finding groups, or successfully completing content. Not a worlds first pro or anything of the sort but can comfortably complete mythics before the next raid tier arrives and place high on meters. Knowing fights, having the muscle memory, and knowing your class inside and out will always out preform players trying to compensate through addons, keybindings, and whatever flavor of the month trend is currently chased. Neither can it teach split second decision making for choosing the proper heal, at the proper place, at the proper time. If you don't like keybinds, don't use em, and don't feel bad not using them. Most of these players have become horribly dependant on them, to the point when patches break them- they can't play competently anymore without their support.

  2. There's no need to use E for forward. I've played with SDF only for almost a decade -> with shift-D for backwards movement (since it's very rarely needed). This gives me E as a 'Tier 1/2' button. Though I've been considering moving to DFG recently.

  3. QWE to move, ASDRFGCXZ1-0 for main abilities (i have a MMO mouse), and Shift combination for rest, used it like this since vanilla, some improvements can be made, like using the S button for something, i never use S, i turn around with the camera, G is for my main CD and sometimes it feels awkward to use, CTR-XC is awkward to use as well

  4. WHAT??? Never crossed my mind I can use the zoom-in/zoom-out bindings as spells……!!!! (explosion sound in my head) WHAT THE FUGG???
I will try the ESDF setup although, sounds brilliant!

  5. I use a Latin American keyboard, and they usually have a smaller shift key but has an extra button to the left of z. ESDF sounds atrocious bc of it because the shift modifier is too far away, at the same time I am impressed by the fact you have a pack pedal button that can be another A tier bind.

  6. how's this for a hot take: rebind D (ESDF movement) away from back, use it for a spell. I did this back in BC and never looked back (though shift+D is back). I generally use it for the spammiest of my abilities. Also generally when I need to back up I tend to just strafe and rotate the camera anyway.

Also: Backspace for Tier 2 emergency button. Big ol' button you can hit like a big red "Oh shit" button. usually use it for things like health funnel to heal my pet.

  7. I mean I use 1-5, Shift 1-5, CTRL 1-5 and like two mouse buttons and middle click…Shift mouse buttons, CTRL mouse buttons and it’s way easier than your method because we already know where shift and CTRL from typing. Your method was so random I’d lose my spot on the keyboard

  8. You have to have the same hands and brain as me or something, because on wasd binds I have ALWAYS hated pressing 1 compared to pressing 2 or 3, but have never heard anyone else complain about it at all. I've also been wanting to swap to esdf binds for the longest time and finding your channel is going to be what makes me take the leap.

  9. Very good and clear video! One question remains after watching, why isn't the thumb used to press keybinds? It makes reaching bottom tier 4 and tier 5 binds much easier as it just sits on the spacebar

  10. tried out esdf, there's a big disadvantage in the distance to tab for tab targeting

you can edit it of course, but idk if anything is as natural as wasd+tab

also wasd has the benefit of resting your pinky on shift/ctrl and binding more modified keys

  11. For you, I will change and start using WSAD after 18 years of hardcore playing FPS, racing games, RPG,… You are correct for using ESDF in every possible way, it is kinda and eye opener for me

  12. Very good video and I mostly agree with all your reasoning. I would like to add something for the community though.
Obviously this all of this is relative. And for the record, if it works your you (how big your keyboard and/or hands are), you use it!.
However, this might differ for some people before coming to this video I tried esdf aswell for movement keys as I was aware that I required more keybinds.
Unfortunately for me I have small hands, but big fingers and a quite compact keyboard layout. So moving to esdf was no option for me as it was unnatural and uncomfortable to use my thump to use alt.
I think wasd is still a valid option depending on your options. Where as for me I am able to use alt more conveniently. I use shift, ctrl and alt for mousewheel, Also I am using mousewheel a bit more extensive for the past 3 years and it's still working perfectly fine. for zooming obvious choice is page up/down as you mentioned.
I like that you call out to generalize/categorize as much as possible (not always been possible in my experience as some classes wouldn't have 6 mobility options and then I am left with 6 buttons I don't want to use for other goals -.- )

Today I was looking into an addon which made it so I can just use keybinds to spells rather then actionbars. And the best I got was Clique, but that is designed specifically for healing and mouseover and doesn't fully support the way I intended to use it. It's great nonetheless, just didn't suite my goal.

For anyone able and comfortable – not muscle memory, but at least hand placement and able to reach keys etc – go for it! I would be using this now if not for what I mentioned earlier.
Also, incase this can help anyone and/or be an addition to the video:
shift+w = general mount (now a macro because I didn't want to add another keybind specific for dragonflight mounts which are only useable in designated areas)
ctrl+w = Grand expedition mount (or the auction mount if you have that)
alt+w = sandstone drake (from back in the day I used to help friends get to places who where new, but you can do with this whatever you want. I had no reason to change this yet)
shift + a, s, d | respectively marking: skull, square, cross (I saw a video regarding a ring, which I will look after this comment)
So far I always used z, x for movement keys, since I already used mousewheel (no mod) for things such as warlock teleport circle and monk transcendence. Where down is setting the place and up is to 'go' functionality

Also I have a logitech g502 as I am incapable of using mmo mouses (I squeeze my mouse to hard and accidently press buttons sadly) there you have 2 buttons by your left mouse button which are awesome to use (also with modifiers)!

As someone else mentioned in the comments, you can use shift modifier for other mouse buttons as well!

Awesome video, I already used most of the logic and keyboard layout thought processes, but I still got some good things out of this video, because I am still using keybinds for abilities from years ago which aren't as effective to use becaus they are to hard to get by, or an easy key holding an ability I don't use often.
I am looking forward to the rest of your content and further videos!

PS. excuse me for my essay

  13. Just wanna highlight something, about using yout thumb, u can slide it under your hand and make the lower row-keys a little bit easy, its comfortable for me (used to it from different game: DotA2) so it might be tier 2 keys… and thx for the VD

  14. As a WASD user I might give it a go but I still think ESDF is wrong. For WASD I have easy access to the following keys 1234QERF but also SHIFT and CTRL with my pinkie and ALT and SPACE with my thumb. That is 3 modifier keys which essentially triples my total amount of keybinds. In the end i don't even need that many because I have a mouse with many side buttons that are really useful.

  15. great video. i played starcraft 2 for a few years and there was a similiar topic there. one idea was to move over to "O K L :" or in my case with a german keyboard "O K L Ö", there you have extra buttons for your thumb and its more ergonomical as you can tilt your keybord a bit. it sure feels strange at first but makes a hell of a difference
