  1. I couldn't agree more with the notion of ratcheting down the borrowed power, to focus on the essentials. Wrath and Cataclysm had it right, imo. There were your level, your build and gear drops, and that was it for setting power. No extra grinds for extra power. And it worked a treat, imo. This is the recipe for an efficient use of dev resouces: Character design/core mechanics and gear for player power, and actual content for content.

I think it's a rut the design team is stuck in, where they equate a fairly simple and minimalistic system that relies on a time-consuming grind to crank out more character power, and efficient use of dev time. This is opposed to crafting actual content (quest, events, optional grinds for cosmetics) to fill peoples' time in the game.

While one such system is relatively simple to work around, when you introduce two or three of them, all with scaling buffs to certain abilities, the mathematics becomes exponentially more volatile. Shift a base characteristic by 0.1 and you may blow the entire game up, because of how many multipliers act on that base characteristic.

Trying to balance such a system is making it more difficult than it needs to be. Suddenly their time-efficient use of dev resources is eaten up by, essentially, correcting for the sins of the past, and they have to do this for every new content patch they release. It's a bad way to develop your game.

  2. His lore reason for the whole covenant swapping is so stupid.. so what they help each other out but they are not exchanging covenant fluids.. each covenant has a power theme and thats ok. Souldbinds and conduits on the other hand need more flexibility and balance for sure.

  3. The thing is this didn't need to be complex. We didn't need the stuff they've put in soul binds, covenants, conduits.. just bring is back to the good old days of MOP/CATA/WOTLK let us play our characters instead of having this borrowed power system.. Literally had what 2 years to make shadowlands? as you said in your video around 11 minutes all the stuff they had to fix, essences, azerite traits. Look at all the problems that caused BFA? imagine if they had the time to focus on shadowlands ect.. instead of the borrowed power system.

  4. What would interest me is, there was quite a fluctuation in staff recently at Blizzard with Mike opening his company. Do you think that the move of the talent could have contributed to the delay and state as well?

You are from that industry, so you maybe have a bit more insight into matters like that, or what it is like when talent falls away during such a project.

  5. This is good i guess but, more money wasted/sucked in for dry content. I get 1 more month there im not even active in the game. some bonus month of gameplay would be in order Blizzard!

  6. I have a really random thought. You know how the warcraft live action movie i believe wasn't loved.

I wonder if making a world of Warcraft anime would work. Looking at all the action animes out there i don't see why not. It's just a really interesting idea.

Who wants an anime sylvanias vs her sisters? Meee 😀

  7. I not been paying any attention to Shandowlands as we were all suckers for BFA hype. If Blizzard delay a release, I think this is only a positive thing. Back in the day, Blizzard would only release an expansion when it it READY, not when it's broken i.e BFA
