Catch-up Gear in Patch 9.1 and How to Upgrade it to 233

Looking at the catch-up gear coming to WoW in patch 9.1, how you’ll get it, and how you’ll update it. Korthian armaments will come from outdoor gameplay in Korthia in 9.1, and you can purchase a bind on account version for a random slot in exchange for 1000 Stygia per piece. Korthian gear starts at item level 200, and can be upgraded with the Archivists Codex faction and Cataloged Research all the way to a cap of 233, which is higher than the item level of the normal Sanctum of Domination raid. Upgrading a full set of Korthian 9.1 catchup gear will take a lot of gameplay and Cataloged Research (which is also used for buying sockets and conduit item level upgrades) so it’s not going to outpace raid gear right away. World of Warcraft Shadowlands patch 9.1 does not have a release date yet but is estimated to come out this summer.

  1. It's really shitty that the token gives you a random item. So if you want to gear out an alt with that, you will probably need to spend like 4 times the stygia you would need for specific tokens. Really annoying

  2. Unrelated to this video, but as a content creator, how do you feel about YouTube adding an option to clip videos? I feel like I definitely would not want anyone and everyone to be able to take snippets of my videos and possibly reupload them without permission or oversight.

  3. Thanks hazel, vey comprehensive. It's great that they added another option for people to gear up with. And such an involved one at that. Seems like even if you don't do M+ or raiding, you can sink your teeth into this and be happy with the outcome (hopefully).

  4. It sounds like some of these new additions are once again designed to just waste our time unnecessarily. The BoA token just turns into ANY random gear? The new currency isn't looted you have to convert a drop into it? You have to go INTO Torghast to get the BoA soul ash token?

Yeah none of it is gamebreaking but it's getting to be real annoying

  6. Man at the moment I'm so deep in Final Fantasy XIV that I feel like WoW has nothing exciting for me except the story. Avoiding spoilers like the plague just so I have something to come back for in 9.1

  7. Okay, so. Summarising / getting it clear in my head: Stygia on mains will get you some 200 peices for alts. But it's not efficent to fully gear an alt with it.
I think this is good: I can spend excess stygia, but I'm don't feel pressured to farm on my main to play an alt.
(This was often a problem in previous iterations, I want to play alts to keep things fresh, but often it was too efficient to gear an alt by farming on your main.)

The rest of the peices will just drop from doing stuff in Korthia.
And for the characters you know you won't mythic plus / raid with, you can focus on unlocking and buying upgrades for that gear.
On characters that will do that, you wont have to grind as much, and can save your research for sockets and other small upgrades.

  8. Question: Hi Hazel, Thank you for this. This sounds great for solo, time-constrained players like me. Only having several hours a week, when trying to do outdoor catch up like covenant callings. Can this activity be stacked up with Korthia outdoor content?

  9. Great, blizzard make the new gear BoA then stabs the player in the back by making it random what piece you get, here's to spending 1000's and 1000's to get a full set for just your main let alone all your alts. FFS blizzard just make them slot specific and put weapon and shield/ off hand items there too. At least in bfa I could grind weapons and specific armor pieces if the daily quests were lucky.
