Covenant Conclusion for Resto Catweaving/Owlweaving – Shadowlands Beta Studies

With the last of our Covenant Beta Studies completed, it’s time to gather my thoughts and ask the question, which covenant should you go for in the Shadowlands? We’ll be looking at the pros and cons of each, which playstyle some might be better and most importantly, which will, as it currently stands on the beta build, fit the traditional ‘weaver’ playstyle for Resto most. Be aware this is my opinion no doubt biased towards how I tend to play.

  1. For the Necorlords, the first Soulbind gives you a 6 minute buff based on standing on a corpse and using Fleshcraft. It can give you 342 Mastery Rating which is pretty nice (if the corpse is a humanoid), and some other nice abilities…the issue is the reliability of it. You can't use it in Arenas to start the fight (no corpses) or in most raiding fights, especially after a wipe. If you do M+ though, it will be easier to get some of these buffs during your run.

The main issue is that Mastery is by far the biggest buff which doesn't help Resto DPS (Warlocks and Rogues on there hand who already have very low Mastery Rating per Mastery % gain a massive benefit). If there were more Giants, maybe the 5% Physical Damage would be in play.

  2. So in the latest beta build all the soulbinds got re-arranged, with every soulbind having it's 3rd potency slot replaced with something else. I haven't looked in depth yet, but it looks like some Kyrian and Venthyr will still be able to have two potency slots in an efficient route. Necrolords looks tough but somewhere between now and my Necrolord video Emeni got a large buff but the two Night Fae soulbinds I recommended, Niya and Dreamweaver both get hit with this change, so this should bring Night Fae closer to the others. I think all 4 are rather close and each will be better in different scenarios.
