All i want to add to the conversation is, boycotting Blizzard only hurts the already hurting victims. Imagine putting your life into a game, being harassed and abused by the company u are making the game for, and speaking out, only for the public to boycott the game you put your life into. Not only are you being hurt by the company but now your passion isn't being viewed or consumed bc it is being boycotted, and you aren't making any money, on top of already being harassed. DONT BOYCOTT THE GAMES, SPEAK OUT AGAINST THE LEADERS OF THE COMPANY TO CREATE CHANGE.
The language that shocked me the most was in the initial Blizzard response. It was essentially "Hey, they weren't supposed to sue us! They were supposed to let us know on the DL so we could quietly fire people, 'misplace' important evidence, and coach our employees with scare tactics and gag orders! This is unfair!" Like how DARE a government agency act against a company that it has oversight of. I think it's very telling that they were this confident of their 'righteousness' in this case that they stated things like that publicly. They weren't just unhappy with the lawsuit, they were genuinely shocked that someone would hold them accountable.
And then the cherry on top was citing the state of California's economy, like they're personally propping it up.
Omg ilysm!!! ❤️I relate to you a lot, about the sims too!!! Make some sim videos girl!!! We’d watch them ❤️
Commenting to hack the algorithm for you, love your channel! ❤️
it's low key annoying to an extent that the company cannot be hurt with sales as much as other businesses in this case would due to their main consumer base being people who don't even watch or read news or wouldn't care of how company employees are treated. It's products primarily marketed at younger teens to an extent, imagine if a company who's product market was adult women had this scandal, the stock would fall now by 10% is all I'm saying.. 😕 it was a perfect environment for them to go on that way calculating the loss wouldn't be as great. And i personally think it's similar as what disney calculated the PR response to the Black Widow lawsuit cost them, as their marvel consumer base set is not female adults, losing some of them in the backlash must have been calculated to be financially beneficial although it's a whole other ballgame with disney. It's just the way these areas where consumers are young males treat women overall seem rly terrible and never big backlash on the men enough to change profits long term 😔
I love it when your hands get all wild when you talk 😄
Update: turns out blizz HR has been impeding the investigation by shredding documents and implementing NDAs. Thoughts on this?
Super interesting video! I knew about the lawsuit but not half of this information.
Ummm I'm confused. Is this the only course of action? If individual women wanted to followup criminally – could they?
background music is driving me loony in this video. I'm a regular on the channel. Maybe it's too loud. I'm not sure but It's distracting. FYI. Thanks for your posts though, they are entertaining.
"It's only 29 pages"…pfft, I am not in college anymore!
Woah…. shock of shocks…. Blizzard Entertainment, who promised to, quote, "Do women better," as they shrink-wrapped Widowmaker, might have a sexism problem!
(Sarcasm aimed at Blizzard only, the video was fantastic.)
While it's true that, well, that's just what giant law firms do… The fact ActiBlizz hired them before is still a red flag. Remember "Enron whistleblower" affair? (the one that lead to the SOX being passed.) The irony was that the Enron management did the right thing, they hired a law firm to investigate the allegiations in the letter…
That firm was WilmerHale (Still Wilmer, Cutler and Pickering back then) and they sent ppl who worked with Enron before and were buddy-buddy with the very ppl they were supposed to investigate. And of course they declared that there was nothing to that whistleblower letter, all perfectly legal… Well, they were wrong.
I'm not saying that's unique to WH either, but frankly, in a crisis like that a company needs someone who has no appearance of being beholden to them or too friendly — a true outsider. at least, if they want these kinds of investigations to have credibility.
Oh this was a fun video to come across! I work in games (not for Bliz, and not in the USA- don't think I'd survive) and tbh, it's a rarity to find out that a company's culture ISN'T rotted. Seems that the bros who started games companies with their mates back in the 80s and 90s were all antisocial scumbags, who liked and promoted scumbags ever since!
(Happier aside- the fun I had creating mods for the Sims 3 is what lead me into pursuing games as a career. Sims buddies yay!)
As sad as all this makes me (since I met my hubby in WoW, he was my friend for years before we started dating and got married), I'm glad there's been a mass exodus from WoW to ffxiv… I didn't really give the game a chance and the community is absolutely amazing. People are generally really friendly and it has to be one of the most LGTBQ+ friendly gaming communities anywhere online.
There's the misconception that the game is easier, and it's really not. As someone that has raided at the highest level in WoW at different points, I don't know that I will end up doing the absolute hardest content… but the community is so welcoming to different ways to play that you don't even have to be interested in combat and there's still a place for you, particularly if you're into crafting.
By the way, I think other lawsuits are in the works as well (primarily thinking of Riot Games and I think Ubisoft), there were things I learned in this vid and I thought I had heard it all… such as the the Bill Cosby office, so I'd be interested in any news on the other lawsuits.
I had seen the picture of a bunch of devs with a painting of Bill Cosby, but it was taken before the news about him became mainstream. Although, some have pointed out that at least some folks in Hollywood knew what was going on, a lot of people said it didn't make sense that higher ups at Blizz would know anything about it. Looking back on it now, apparently nerdy devs aren't that separated from Hollywood, when their boss, Bobby Kotick apparently had connections with Epstein 😕I think we didn't want to believe they were that evil to actually take a picture on a hotel bed with Cosby's picture as if looking up to him, they had said it was a joke about how the hotel carpet was ugly like Cosby's sweater 🤨 I've had my own "experiences" in the workplace and Promising Young Woman comes to mind when I want to forget that "good guys" do this stuff, too.
Love how she dead ass looks into the camera and says "it's only 29 pages" lol. Look I like to read a book every now and again but 29 pages of a legal document is alot to me. Hahaha
My heart goes to the woman, who committed suicide and all the others who were harmed by their co-workers.
💔😢
Ubisoft is having the exact same legal issues. Showing that the issue of gamers harassing female gamers was part of a broader culture of sexism and violence.
Interesting now Microsoft are trying to buy Activision Blizzard. Wonder if they will make this go away.
I worked at blizzard. I remember going for an interview for a promotion. The remarks on why I didn't get to the 3rd (final) interview was because I was too " assertive."
Not even joking.
What makes it more ridiculous is the manager of the department was attributed in the very same interview by himself and the other interview (also male) that HE WAS A VERY ASSERTIVE PERSON. It was one of his most prized qualities.
And when I shared this with other women I knew there, they expressed similar issues with promotion interviews, each of us getting passed over for someone else who would eventually get the role, a man.
To be fair I can't vouch for other stories and perhaps in each case, the better person got the job. But it really felt uneven as far as the standards being applied evenly and as fairly as possible.
I left 2 months later for another job after that promotion interview
I feel sick. amuuricans use "muslism" misogyny to try and scare women onto their side but they are just the same, pretending to be "better".
