Watched alot of Day9 playing MTG Arena.
hopefully they change the intro to dragonflight campaign for war within to not include all the wrathion stuff. They should just dump you on that pier in the waking shore, kick your behind and say: "talk to those guys and explore… oh there are dragons… have fun!"
Day9 is very clever, thoughtful and well-spoken. Always a joy to watch his rants.
i may be and old wow player but never have i seen some one srugle like that geting to a quest objective/giver, he went twice to the same place not paying atention to where he was going by looking at the map or mini map. maybe RPG's are just not his thing and he should stick with the RTS genre.
and for those that dont know what RPG or RTS is, your lack of gaming knowledge is showing
Day9, Tasteless, iNcontrol, and Artosis at the twitch starcraft holiday bash was peak twitch streaming, loved Day9's take on wow classic/retail.
The Mostly Walking series day9 does with some game designer friends is great
really to me, all Blizzard needs to do is give a "skip to X expansion" option for each expansion that a new player HAS played through.
If a new player has not yet played through any expansion, they have to start at Vanilla and play through the WHOLE thing.
Once they reach 60 (or whatever level it is now) and did the raids, they enable the option to skip Vanilla if they make a 2nd character. And so on. But new players NEED to play through each expansion at least ONCE, imo. Yes it takes a LOT of time. But it will be a FUN time if done with other people that go through the same journey.
Day9 makes perfectly reasonable and rational criticisms, that he makes me want to completely disregard, because he plays them up like an oaf of a dad in an infomercial
If a game requires me to google shit, I ain’t playing it
Im on day 3, never played. Playing on moonguard alliance. Dunno wtf im doing but im here
it's just so damn that new players got shaved right into that be mess of time lines, surrounded by unknown people calling you hero and champion but your char is 2 hours of age
I agree that the new player experience needs to improve, but I also think it's impossible to account for all the stupidity that new players will come up with just because they refuse to understand. Like spamming the "complete quest" button and shouting "WHY ISN'T IT WORKING?!??!" when there's a clear red text right above saying "You much choose a reward". That's like logging in with the wrong password constantly and shouting "WHY WON'T IT LET ME LOG IN?!?!" You cannot account for every aspect of user error, but you can make it as easy to engage with as possible. It's not a product flaw if the user decides to throw their phone in the river and complain it doesn't return like a boomerang.
So I think they need to revamp the new player experience, but I also think we need to put some responsibility on the players. As a guide, I cannot tell you how many countless times I've seen people type "wave. wave. 'wave'. '/wave'. just /wave, '"'/wave*"''" in Newcomer Chat because they read but cannot comprehend.
What I would give for a traditional leveling experience in Retail again.
I love how the arcane explosion use reminds me of that video with woman watching the person using the "put the shape through the same shaped hole" put everything through the square hole.
what's baffling about this is the fact that Blizzard, one of the earliest to the MMO gates and a pioneer of MMO in general of it's time… thinks that an MMO needs a fucking "Tutorial area"… dude, it's a fucking MMO. The tutorial is you leveling to max, that's how you learn your class, your role and the general vibe of the game, through leveling.

to say that Day[9] is as old as TwitchTV is an understatement. Twitch was launched in 2011. Day[9] had been covering Starcraft: Brood War pro scene pretty much as early as 2004 (I think he was 18 back then) He is THE founding father of gaming content creating
Don't forget, Day9 is a legitimate genius aside from just a pro Broodwar player and content creator. He has a B.S. in Mathematics from Harvey Mudd College and a Master of Fine Arts in Interactive Media from the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California. After SC2 kinda started falling by the wayside he started teaching math and stuff at school, at which point I kinda fell off as a viewer. I think most streamers these days really owe their foundation to Day9. He came out of the gate swinging basically and really hasn't stopped hitting homers and the modern day streamer model is kinda based around him. The way he acts, talks, engages with his audience, where he places his camera on the screen, etc., etc.. At lot of stuff he trended became industry mainstays. Let's also not forget that back in 2011 the dude was worth more than 30 million dollars. And his value has only gone up since. Think about it. Think how popular people like Asmongold, XQC, Markiplier, etc., etc., are. They didn't hit the Forbes 30 under 30. The dude is a fuckin' madlad.
What I felt was so great about his SC2 content days was like it never really felt like you were watching a content creator. Watching his stuff back then along side everybody in chat laughing and having a good time with each other and him having positive interactions with chat and whatnot, it felt more like you were just hangin' with one of the boys. Same with Mr. Fruit, RhabbyV and Blue Westlo for Destiny 1. Or the Limit Break Radio crew for FF14's early years. Or Leviathan and Neinball for D3. There's plenty of other examples. I miss the "Golden Age".
My problem of the new leveling system in in retail WoW, is one minute your a new recruit, then you are the Champion or hero of Azeroth.
Also the fact the learning experience is so dumbed down, they are literally holding your hand. But at the same time, there are too many things which you are overloaded with at higher end content.
Which is very difficult for most newer players to pick up. Where WoW players, who played a minute, get used to it over time and the over reliance of add on’s, you may need to play at peak performance, or to keep up with the sensory overload of things going on.
WoW Retail is a mess, it isn't even funny, I know everyone's laughin it up, but its pathetic. the narrative alone makes zero sense to a new player, you time travel (knowingly or otherwise) all over the timeline at any given moment, you could not POSSIBLY get invested in this story starting fresh, FF14 has the huge benifet of making you play through the whole story, in a straight line, something that couldn't possibly be done in WoW even if they wanted to.
