Though Shadowlands has long passed from being the current content of WoW, it’s effects are still being felt by the playerbase (both current and gone) to this day, with me certainly being one of them. So today we ask, did Shadowlands ACTUALLY ruin Warcraft?

  1. I usually hate time travel in stories, but I can somewhat forgive WoD since it’s an alternate timeline (except the Burning Legion existing outside of time or not still confuses me). SL was bad for a list of reasons. The Jailer was the lamest villain ever and they could have built him up better and make him badass like Thanos, but they didn’t. Also, the story keeps funneling the player characters through the same narrative which throws player identity in the trash. For example, if I’m a Zandalari Troll, why would I bother saving Jaina from Torgahst? Why not let the Alliance heroes do it? A big part of what made Legion memorable was that it had 12 separate stories based on your class (and a little bit of faction specific story, but it was more than SL).

  2. I think for me it's been a very easy case of dismissing a lot of Shadowlands already. Did I like it? Maybe parts. But most of it? certainly not. A lot of the damage Shadowlands done has basically become a blip. With Dragonflight, we're in the healing course of Warcraft and if it keeps up it can climb out of the hole that Shadowlands pushed it into.
