Hey guys! Recently on stream I decided to react to a recent Xaryu video, “Can WoW Be Saved?” and had some inputs on what my thoughts are on this topic. It’s kind of been the hot topic of the WoW community recently, and this is kind of my way of throwing the hat into the ring. Big cudos to Xaryu for the original video, it was great.

Watched the video from Xaryu. He makes very good points.
I dont really see a way that WoW can be " fixed ". People have less time. The core audience is who has less time. Theres outliers on both sides. The game needs to continue the route is has set with Dragonflight and keep building on what its done right in the current xpac.
Adjustments can be made here and there to ease things up. We dont need 40 man raiding back like Asmongold said…. because who the fuck out there has 40 people who can commit 2 days a week and stay consistent. Thats literally impossible in todays culture with the " I want it now " crowd thats out there.
Personally I feel that blizzard should 100% return to the 25 man roster for mythic content like it was since TBC. Thats about it though. Blizzard also needs to bring back old proff specific things back like. Engi rocket boots + para cloak. Tailoring cloaks. BS glove + wrist sockets and many more AND actually allow people to use them again in raids without it putting potions on cooldown.
Blizzard could also add actual world content in the game like Rift had or like FF has where out door content is meaningfull for literally everyone.
Blizzard could also create a system that brings back old content that provides mog / currency / other items that allow for old items / sets to be bought.
Acutal customizable player housing …… Not some garrison 2.0 shit…. Housing like FF has…. people would 100% come back for that alone.
Again theres MANY things that blizzard is capable of doing to " fix the game " but more likely than not they will not do anything above.
Race to world first problems. You're the problem. You and dratnos. Its not a damn job to kill a boss first. You make it a job. And you continue to bitch about it. You're the fucking problem;not wow. Stop playing it and it will be good again. You're the issue. Mdi is the issue. Not wow. Stop being delusional
if you go on Curseforge right now a full half of the addons on the top 10 page are non-combat addons. Even then I think the core part MDT is just a convenience thing.
Imagine if they made every expansion’s best patch available at all time you get to choose to play whatever expansion anytime
I'm 32. I used to sell MTG cards and i still play osrs.
Fuckin called out. Goddamnit Max
weak aura and AH "manipulation" addons need to get gutted.
People take Asmon's takes too seriously they think he is some kind of god who is always right when in fact he spits bullshit nonstop just look at the way he talks. You and Xaryu are one of the few racional players out there, and the worst thing is watching some people defend the guy everytime he spits shit.
keybinds are out of control. think about mouseover or even arena targets. its cool to have all these abilitys but i think it would be more cool to have less abilitys that are more powerful. maybe more customization for abilitys with talent tree
addons are cool but i dont like it when you need to have one just to recognize a critical mechanic
There are things to improve, but to pretend that wow needs to be "saved" when it's the best it's been since legion is ridiculous.
Instead of focusing on 40 raids and class complexity nonsense, which many specs literally never felt better to play, focus on lack of variety of content, world content being pretty bad, only having 8 dungeons and 1 raid a season, and having so much old content but only 1% of the content bring relevant. In my opinion this is one of the things that eso does better, some content is easier, other is harder, but no content is irrelevant, wow needs to do something similar, because it would help a lot, make the newest content drop the max ilvl items if you want, but the fact that there is so much content that is wasted is frankly a shame.
These are actual problems. Not 40 man raids addons or class complexity.
wow would suck with out addons. I like to be able to customize.
Fix wow? Just do a reset with a new mmo. Easier to start new than try and fix and cater to everyone's wants.
The big issue I see with people like Asmon is that they want current retail to be Classic, but again. One one hand, this might appeal to the people that quit the game and let everyone know their opinions that the game now is bad. On the other hand, what about the millions of people actually playing Retail? Do most if the people want the main game to be oversimplified in the way Classic was? I reckon a lot of the people playing Retail like that there is some complexity in the different classes (some more than others, of course). I tried classic and SOD for a bit and the play style of those games are pretty boring to me. Also, and maybe I'm wrong here, I feel like the classic leveling style would almost certainly not keep younger audiences interested in the game to keep playing to the more fast pace of end-game content, however fast it would be.
It's really weird to see Xaryu go down the doomer pipeline of WoW creators
MMOs are out because of the rapid development of computing systems. Games like Elden Ring, Final Fantasy 7 even games like Call of Duty have converted to big open expansive maps with Warzone. When WoW dropped in 2004 it had the benefit of Warcraft laying an incredible lore foundation with technological advances allowing it to be brought to life and it was mind blowing at the time. Every gaming genre is now getting that time to shine. Action RPGs are now benefiting from technology by letting their complex combat systems be encapsulated in beautiful landscapes. 1st person shooters are getting larger servers with less lag, more people. Fighting games have come to insane levels of precision and complexity. Eventually though everything plateaus waiting on the next advancement in technology to push it to that level. Until MMOs can step into that new light of "look what's never been possible before but now is" the traction will never grow. WoW is just an open world Warcraft 1-3 with AARPG elements. The World Soul Saga sounds great and I think more seamless multiple layer elements and delves are great for WoW and MMOs in general but until they can shatter technological ceilings they won't compete with the genres of games that can.
he beat me, im jesus
shiet
I just want to be able to gather and not feel like I’m wasting my time while surrounded by bots and the reminder that 20$ would get me more gold than days of gathering.
Wow should have been remade after Legion tbh just like ff14 Legion Destroyed azeroth or smth like this
Man ik can see this guy goes to the blizzard gym all day ever day 😂😂😂😂
Time for WoW 2
OG Classic drop off was steep af too. A lot of people were indeed "you think you do"
Long as I can live out my life as a Shado-pan monk I’m fine with WoW.
No sorry addons need to go. As a casual player maybe i can get benefit from 3 addons. But right now i can't play AH because i don';t have TSM or auctionanor or any other AH shit (the one that is lite botting but appareantly fine for blizz). I can't do M+ becasue you need to have some shit mark me score for how i did m+ addon, that people farm on easiest weeks because they all know the ranking is bullshit. And any quality of life change that addons bring is net negatie for casual players cause they don't have it, and any functionality that they bring should be in base game. Such as sorting your bag, whihc i they added eventually.
When full dive VR comes, WoW will be the pioneer it once was again
Lol @ 40man raids in retail. The singlethreaded engine core can't even handle 30man heroic raids with 60+ FPS on a high-end CPU. Since the average WoW player has a much slower CPU, imagine how unplayable that would be for many.
I hate the "everything have to be fast" idea in games. its just not my style.
16:38 – Really puts those comments into perspective that are like "SO GLAD I QUIT IN TBC" on any WoW related Asmongold video
Also see Star Wars Galaxies and the NGE update for what happens when you make such drastic changes to your game that you end up alienating everyone who liked it in the first place. The game dies.
I'm almost 33, but I really don't like grind something for being equal in competition game(key, rbg, arena) . I got full time job, wife, other hobbies.
The graph doesn't show playerbase, but people playing sub, and it also included china which is closed now. If retail is doing so well wouldnt they bloat about it? If retail is doing so well wouldnt they wan't to show itby saying how much players play only it instead of consolidating 2 sub basess into one? If wow was still so good doing wouldn't they want to share sub numbers / asctive players instead of scetchy talking points for shareholders?
i really love wow atm, havent played an expantion that far in before 😀
I think the thing that isn't really being touched on as much is that there are large amounts of people who would play retail if it wasn't so overwhelming to start playing it. There is just so much shit to do and so many things in the game that it's difficult for anyone new to have a good introduction. They're trying, but when you get in the game and your friends have 7000 transmogs, 600 mounts and tons of other achievements, they feel like they will never catch up, and they likely won't. That doesn't even touch on how confusing questing is after you finish exile island. IMO they need a true sequel, even if it isn't revolutionary as far as graphics/gameplay goes, just to level the playing field. Or at the very least, progression servers.
BFA (all patches) will always be my 2nd worst expansion. Season 4 was not THAT much of a redemption for anyone returning. You still had massive essence grinds before removal and corruptions were on a sale cycle that took months in some cases. And you still needed a ton of currency if you wanted to fully outfit a single corruption on all your gear just for blizzard to nerf it a short while later. BFA even at its most fun was a worse experience than many expansions especially as an off and on player.
Asmon doesn’t even play wow anymore. Who cares what he has to say??
wow has around 7 mill players right now i think its gonna be ok
It does NEED to be saved, but does it DESERVE it?
I think you miss the point. The idea was not to have the interface "be as great as weakauras."
The point was to make the game not require such an interface in the first place.
Make the game easier to see through and understand.
Make the mechanics of the game more telegraphed and simpler to comprehend.
The whole reason why the abilities of modern WoW are like "There's shit everywhere, dodge motherf*cker" is precisely because players get to play a near perfect rotation with their buttons highlighting while being screamed at by an addon to "RUN AWAY LITTLE GIRL."
I used to raid. I raided from TBC all the way up to and including world 50-something on Argus.
Never has raiding been this inconceivably dull.
considering it's dead, 40 ft under the ground, if you want to consider it alive at any point in the future…then yes, it "needs" to be saved.
Everything is too… accessible online. There are no real secrets nowadays in games – they get datamined day 1, and shared on youtube. Season of discovery tried to combat this, but even then the guides went up, people shared and carried low level players for the good runes. People don't generally spend time and effort theorycrafting on their own, there are bis guides, optimal rotations, meta knowledge etc. If we could get an AI to govern personalized questing content for players and have that somehow work well, there would be a lot of value in that, as there would be no guides online for them, replayability would go up and so on. Ease of access has nuked the 'feel rewarded for your own hard work' that games relied on, when the information is easily obtainable, what it leaves for 'hard work' is just grinding for a low drop chance, or repetition for enough special currency… maybe.
everything comes full circle. bellbottem jeans were in in the 60s then again in 90s and again in 2000s WOW will be great again when they finally go VR for the zoomers
WOW came at a perfect storm, home PC's were just coming-out world wild, the economy's were starting to come out of a major slump and it was a perfect time in history. That will never happen again. we as kids were amazed at PC's the internet and cable TV. you cant understand that all came out in a 10yr span. nothing since then has been such a dramatic change since then
btw cs go its older then wow
March 30th, 2024. I might take a full day off work like when Sunwell was released April 8th, 2008.
Planetside 1 had the same issue. Greatest game in the 2003-2006. The player base aged. WoW has an advantage because nothing has replaced it.
used to like max, but that point view is so 1% that makes me hate it
Wow has to make a decision whether it is a game for people to play or a platform for 3rd party businesses to operate from.
Stop this new gen nonsense it comes down to the community based psuedo cults wanting content to be structured in a way that allows them to be social gatekeepers through things like participants gates. We are tired of competitive facebook, social networking is cringe. People have their friends they play with they don't want to join hierarchy of responsibility to have access to the features in a fucking a game they pay for. Half the dev team has a stick up their ass about how skilled group based content is and even the solo modes in wow force you into team settings. Meanwhile you bring up a 1v1 in an mmo not only requires 2 participants it gives you access to massive pool of characters in competitive fantasy setting not really available elsewhere and everyone's heads goes in the sand yelling IT'S AN MMO. Then a chines mobile BR comes out and they pop their heads back out and yell ITS FINE IF THERES DIFFERENT CONTENT. LIKE BITCH you not fooling anyone you straight just want to get paid to do fuck all. The devs ideal patch is a scaling change so they can just move numbers around like the beancounters they are.
Streamer bros can go cry my a river yeah of course they want the game to be designed around having a massive amount of people required to do things so they and their little cabal can just gang stomp everyone. That's not widely marketable. That's just a cesspool.
I cant get over the visual evolutions that WoW has done over the past few years. It looks awful to me. Too much "fortnite" graphic. I heavily preferred the classic artstyle where it was more "realistic" in the WoW style.
