Finally I’ve been waiting
This scene is so close to a 1:1 recreation of FF14 Heavensward ending it's super hard to see it for anything but.
As much as Shadowlands pisses me off, the two things I actually liked, was Sylvannas, and Anduin's archs through this.
"I will never trust her!" A maaassive portion of the WoW community, especially the Alliance.
Same shot of anduin splitting the blade as sylvanas splitting the helm of domination. Not sure what that callback is meant to convey tho.
this cinematic gave me the goosebumps that i was lacking the whole expansion, i was hyped for this even though most of the community was like "you bastards! you took Arthas' redemption from us!" as if Arthas was redeemable, Garrosh was thought redeemable and look how he went out, just because he was likely to go to Revendreth if not for Uther and what's her face does not mean he'd guarantee to be redeemed.
The major problem with Shadowlands and the Jailer is that it was endless retcons one after the other.
Anduin's two hot dads
I just noticed the beautiful transition between An Karanir Thanagor (Arthas' theme) and Lament of the Highborne (Sylvanas' theme). Pretty awesome honestly
the music is amazing. while sylvanas is speaking about arthas, the arthas theme becomes the lament of the highborne, wich is a high elfish song about loosing their people in battle. There's a quest in WoW where you find a necklace wich belongs to sylvanas. If you return it to her, she sings this song. She sung it the first time, when she found her dead brother on the battlefield, killed by orcs in the second war.
The Warcraft story starting at Warcraft 3 with Arthas specifically has been such a huge part of my life growing up filled with a world of wonder and amazment I remember playing WoW for the first time and realizing that the mountain I saw in the distance I could just go to and this was the first game I had that could do that. I was hooked the characters the story and I'm now even more thankful seeing your journey through this amazing story has helped me getting through a hard time in my life. from the bottom of my story loving heart Thank you <3
been waiting for this. full circle baby!
500 anima.
"Let it be finished" by saurfang being a double throwback is beautiful
7 years passed between Shadowlands and Dragonflight. And that's assuming time works the same between Shadowlands and Azeroth.
Also, the stabbing the sword into the ground to release the past, remember Arthas stabbing the ice to release his power in WotLK trailer.
Arthas did nothing wrong. I'm pretty sad with the direction they took Arthas in Shadowlands.
Jaina was such a big part of Arthas' story that I'm surprised they didn't focus on her more. pretty sure they had a three-way crush triangle with ol' Sunstrider.
You need to watch shattered legacies cinematic to see how Sylvanas got here and the raid end where she turns. It's wierd you watching them out of order lol
He separates the sword the same way Sylvanas breaks the crown.
So the cutscene itself is from the Sepulchre of the First Ones raid – Anduin is a boss fight, and this is the scene that plays once his HP is down to a certain % (I forget which). So that's why the dashing towards him at the start. The stabbing of the sword is the start of like the limit break spell of the mournblade, the Lich King has done it a few times in the past. The voices sound like a blend of Arthas, Jailor (Zovaal), and Anduin's. I feel like it was just artistic interpretation re: his hair being short in the flash back, mostly because he was reliving that moment in the moment.
The other thing context wise that should be noted is that this whole expansion we have been in the lands of the dead, and neither Varian nor Saurfang have been seen in those lands, so this is the only time we get to see them. So I guess they live in Charlamaine now? LoL
Plus, Anduin is a priest! He needed a little bit of help from his two Warrior dads (and the only two who have been able to in lore so far!) to split the sword into two.
The blend of Sylvanus' music with Arthas is pretty bittersweet, I'm one of the few folk who really didn't like the Jaina/Arthas stuff, but that's because I'm team Kalec >.>
Bro hype level was insane lol
The first half of this cinematic was amazing. The second half of the cinematic ticked me off. The lack of reaction from Uther and Jaina was ridiculous. They could have had Sylvanas monologue some other time. And it still feels like the devs were telling Arthas fans to sod off through her.
The thing about this cinematic for me is Uther is absolutely devastated. During Shadowlands, we have to resolve some inner turmoil in Uther and he realises how wrong he was with the way he handled Arthas's fall, that that he reacted as a Paladin, and not as a mentor and a friend. On top of that he is directly responsible for Arthas's soul being destroyed by the jailer, you can tell he is absolutely crushed by Arthas's final fate.
Love all the cinematics etc… so good. Shadowlands was not the best expansion, could have been way better, but i still enjoyed the overall story. The part where Varian and Saurfang show up is what gets me. The Warcraft universe for me is great! Have 98% of all books released.
Going to recommend one of my favourite cut scenes. Greymane and Sylvanas from the Stormheim campaign (assuming it hasn't already been covered). Show the old wolf some love!
Sylvia as had the audacity to smear Arthas’ name in front of Jaina… lol.
An interesting parallel/counter I just saw – here, Anduin is shaking, holding the power of this sword, and it's steadied by the spirits placing their hands over his. He then breaks the sword, not only like Sylvanas breaking the helm but also like Varian separating it to fight the Legion in that cinematic. HOWEVER, the point I thought of was when, in the War Within trailer, Anduin is once more holding the sword, point toward Thrall, his hand and grip shaking – but Thrall doesn't "take control" of him by placing a hand over his. Instead, he steps up and faces the threat/warning Anduin is giving him by showing him that he trusts Anduin won't act on it. But he doesn't do it by literally forcing his hand. He does it by literally making himself vulnerable.
Light as in the light isn't what is in that sword. Varian wasn't a light user and the sword always had a glow but it was more red. The glow changes depending on the holder. This is too soon after being dominated. In those 7 years, Anduin didn't feel the light anymore.
Starting as a worgen watching the wretched banshee kill Liam Greymane that expansion was pretty traumatic for me. The consolation of reclaiming Gilneas felt cheap after chasing that banshee for 14 years. I still till this day dive into mobs of NPCs related to her butchering them out of utter spite. Anduin spent 7 years dealing with his demons walking the maw. Sylvanas and the jailer violated his soul. I would say you need to watch the battle for GILNEAS the very first one. You will understand.

Most of lore nuts for wow actually hate this one, at least the end of it. yes Arthas was an selfish evil SOB! but we were never even given a chance to try and redeem him. I would of rather tried and failed, and still had to put him down, than to have the choice not even given. Arthas was also an important character to the franchise. Had they ended at before she says "Begone." I think we would of given it a 5 or 6 out of ten and moved on. But this disgracing of a character that meant so much to us as younger fans. It was like a slap in the face on top of the horrible story telling that came out of Shadowlands. This was the last straw for me and I snapped. I had been holding out hoping something would redeem some of shadowlands narrative, but when I saw this. I was done and over it.
I am very biased, I wish Arthas wasn't just deleted in this moment. There could have been a redemption moment where he took the mantle to properly handle souls in the maw. He was the stealer of souls before, he could have been the handler easy. Yet they stamped him out, like blizzard just wants us to forget what made WoW great in the first place. Arthas is the single most popular storyline out of wow's entire history. For good reason as well, it's incredibly well crafted by people who actually cared about making a story. This was just people making something so the CEO (at the time) Bobby breast-milk drinking Kotick could get a paycheck.
