  1. RIP Ursoc, he was corrupted by the evil of the Nightmare, which forced us to put down the Wild God, so that he could reincarnate over time. but there wont be any reincarnation for Ursoc, his cycle of rebirth was cancelled out.

  2. Ardenweald is indeed based on Celtic mythology and faerie lore, with terrors lurking just beneath the pretty surface, which is super. The Winter Queen was a genuine surprise, because there should be a Winter King; I wonder if summer will ever return…
As a Bear Druid, I cried for poor Ursoc again while watching this.

  3. I've been a druid in WoW for over ten years, and this had me sobbing when I watched it for the first time (it still has me tearing up now). I was devastated to lose Ursoc for good. But, as a druid, I also came to the realization at some point that Ursoc likely would have approved of this decision, and that he can finally rest now for good. He has been on Azeroth essentially since the beginning of time when creatures began to roam the world. He and his brother, Ursol, were made into Wild Gods by Titan Keeper Freya as part of ordering Azeroth to the Titan's design. He was one of the first to stand up and fight in the original War of the Ancients, and he would ultimately die with Ursol there.

He would later be resurrected by some of his previous followers – furbolgs – who had gone mad with worry and Old God corruption during the war against the Lich King. Therefore, Ursoc's resurrection was tainted by this madness and the failed world tree Vordrassil that they inhabited. He had to be defeated and cleansed by our heroes – dying again.

Later on in Legion, Ursoc was in his second slumber of death. But where he resided was corrupted by the Burning Legion and turned into the Emerald Nightmare – which ultimately becomes a raid that we as players have to enter. A corrupted Ursoc is one of the bosses that we defeat, and his third death is the one pictured at the beginning of this cinematic.

In essence, Ursoc and his brother devoted their long, long lives (and rebirths) to Azeroth and its wilds. They fought tirelessly, and Ursoc was a victim of corruption twice in that time against his will, forcing his friends and heroes of the world to kill him. He was relieved to be defeated in the Emerald Nightmare. And while I think he could have been reborn again and served once more as the Wild God he was, I also can see where he deserves to be laid to rest. He has been through tremendous pain and lived a long life.

  4. The Jailer in the Maw stole all the souls if i remember correctly, everyone who died in Azeroth dont get sorted in one of the four zones but get straight to the hell of afterlife basicly.

  5. as someone who has been around since vanilla its really cool to see someone with movie incite to become invested in the warcraft universe like this and give his opinions like this was a long movie series cause at a certain point the cinematics became good enough to feel ripped right out of a movie, I've enjoyed watching you explore this crazy universe!

  6. I mained a Druid for years…i quit retail WoW when Ursoc got deleted just like that and a few other reasons.
To remove such an iconic and important character in the game / lore just like that is ridiculous.

  7. I have a saying :
You don't sacrifice a life for anything.

"The world will die if you don't sacrifice this girl in your street that beg not to be sacrificed" ? –> I would let the world disapeared instead.
Then if there is an afterlife —> The 7 billions people + animals will just have to understand that you sacrifice nobody willingless for anything.

And then you re-create a Earth. Or you don't and you just create Dream World. If there is an afterlife, there is everything. If there is everything –> The Earth and universe as we know, could just be a Dream like any other things.

If we are eternal and you make a "dark" sacrifice –> You will keep this will the rest of your eternity.
If we are eternal, and every living people on Earth disapears because you didn't do the sacrifice –> You have the eternity to redo it better, if you want an Earth.
If there is no eternity and no Soul —> I don't care for anything. Just all die, because we will have the eternity to be nothing ever. (It's harsh, but it's to show a point xD)

  8. One must understand is that Ursoc, one of the Bear Demi-Gods of Azeroth, gave his lifetime and time again to protect nature and his world. During the first invasion of the War of the Ancients, Ursoc charged in and released devastation upon the demonic Legion and died, for he strayed too far from his brother. Ursol. Ursoc was a guardian, and what this cinematic shows is what a guardian is, in all forms. The willingness to sacrifice yourself so others may survive. To make the tough choice to be left behind. Two death's that World of Warcraft did very well was that of Ursoc and Ysera. The art team, voice acting, direction and music were flawless.

  9. After this cinematic, Aralon was hated by parts of the community for a very long time because he let Ursoc die. When Aralon himself later dies, quite a few people were happy. I found it a little strange then, as it does now.
And the Winter Queen was also portrayed as evil and devious for a very long time. Until she revived Ysera and discovered that the Winter Queen was Elune's sister.

  10. Ardenweald is suffering from the Anima drought which is part of how the afterlives were broken in Shadowlands. When a new soul enters one of the afterlives, their mortal experiences are converted into an energy called anima which acts as fuel for the land they're sent to. In Ardenweald, those who devoted their mortal lives to nature would give their anima to the trees and plants which would in turn nurture the spirits of nature while they slumbered and prepared to be reborn in the Emerald Dream.

Through a lot of complex trickery involving the Jailer and his cohorts, the Arbiter, the machine designed to sort every soul to its respective place, was assaulted by the soul of the planet Argus which was corrupted with death magic and effectively malfunctioned. With the Arbiter broken, the souls aren't being sorted and are being dumped into the Maw by default. Ardenweald's plants are being starved of anima because no new souls are arriving. The drought and the fact that their leader, the Primus, is missing is also why the houses of Maldraxxus are warring with one another.

There is one afterlife that is not technically suffering from the drought: Revendreth. While Sire Denathrius, the leader of Revendreth, claims to need to take anima tithes from his people to stem the bleed of the drought, he's actually so lush with anima that he throws lavish parties with his supporters every night. This is because Sire Denathrius is not only working with the Jailer, but he's actively sending his agents into the other afterlives to steal their anima and make the drought worse.

  11. This one was so heartbreaking for me. I was angry that they so casually destroyed a wild god and one of the Ancient guardians of nature. The Ancients/Wild Gods will die to protect nature and will be reborn in the cycle of life but not for Ursoc, he is gone forever.

  12. I still don’t understand those, who blame Ara’lon. Like, imagine yourself in his shoes. Actually, he had NO choice, his grove, Tirna Noch, was almost dead, he wouldn’t be able to save Ursoc. Also, people still don’t notice tears in the eyes and sorrow in the voice of Winter Queen? One more, as a player for night elf druid, I am 100% sure, if Ursoc would decide by himself, if he is ready to make a self sacrifice for saving lots of others, he would agree. It never mattered for him, where is the “grove” to protect: on Azeroth, in the Emerald Dream or in Ardenweald.

  13. So from what I have learned of the main lore, During Legion we fought Argus, the titan. When we defeated him, his soul was sent to the shadowlands, however a titans soul was too much for the Arbiter, the one who judges souls for their afterlife, and it caused the Arbiter to go dormant, forcing all souls to the maw. In the process with no new source of Anima, aka the life blood being distributed. It caused stagnation in the shadowlands and a drought occurred causing all 4 realms to ration their limited resource. Ardenweld needs the resources to revive and renew the souls that came into their Grove, usually members of the emerald dream like Ursoc. After their period of rest, they would return normally to the dream. But as you can see…..
