Thought I’d finally give World of Warcraft Classic a go after numerous people told me to play this instead of the retail version. This is my first ever blind playthrough. Any hints and tips would be gratefully appreciated.

World of Warcraft (WoW) is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) released in 2004 by Blizzard Entertainment. Set in the Warcraft fantasy universe, World of Warcraft takes place within the world of Azeroth, approximately four years after the events of the previous game in the series.

  1. If you have Spotify, the WoW sound track is on there. I believe it has the soundtracks for all the expansions as well. Regardless of the quality of the game over the years, the music is always top notch.

When it comes to NPCs and creatures, a friendly mob is green and you can not attack it. A yellow name means that it is neutral, and you can usually attack it. Red names are enemies, and are aggressive and will attack you on sight. In these starting areas they tend to make your target creatures yellow so you can learn to attack them yourself, and not worry about a ton of them ganging up on you. This game is much more brutal than retail, and if more than one creature attacks you at a time, it's usually a death sentence. Enemies do not scale to your level like they do in retail, so you can easily run into an area that's too high level and die horribly.

As has been said before, the community in this game can be a bit toxic. BUT it's much easier to talk to people too. If you have a question about a quest you're on, you can always chat in game to another player and more often or not they will respond to you.

Unlike in the retail game, when you gain a level you don't automatically get new abilities. You'll have to visit an NPC called a class trainer, you're a mage so you need a mage trainer. They're usually located in major settlements and cities. Every two levels or so there will be a new ability for you to train in. Sometimes it's just a higher rank of something you already have, but sometimes it's an entirely new spell.

Food and drink always forces you to sit down to regen, but you can get potions that are instant. They're more rare though, unless you train in the alchemy profession.

  2. It's been years since I played!
    Also a helpful tip:
Grab as many quests (yellow exclamation mark above NPCs) as you can at once… that way you can sometimes take care of multiple quests in one excursion…just helps with backtracking at times.

  3. Enemies don’t always have to be red. At low levels quests sometimes ask you to kill yellow mobs. The colours just show whether they will attack you (red) or will ignore you until attacked (yellow). The kobolds you want are the ones in the mine to the North of the abbey.

  4. Love your videoes! The classic version of Warcraft is a beast of its own compared to Retail version. Your struggles are real and i cant believe how i learn this game myself looking at how complex it really is to aproach and get into. You bring out good memories.
