We need some fresh takes to overhauling the guild systems in World of Warcraft, especially with cross faction guilds coming in Dragonflight’s patch 10.1.
Today we look past the usual suggestions of guild teleports and guild halls and try to break down what it takes for guilds to survive and thrive in this new age!

  1. From a management perspective – It would be great if your Officers/Guildmaster could have some stats to see how active players are. Maybe add useful dates: Date joined, Date last promoted to the current rank, etc… The 'Zone' tab does show when a toon was last online, but the functionality that allowed (us) to sort it by when that player/toon last logged in broke in BFA and hasn't been fixed. It was very useful in cases where one may need to promote or demote or kick players based on activity.

  2. I definitely think a Guild Hall feature would be the next step we could expect them to implement. Probably a phased area inside or just outside Orgrimmar and that human city using the same phasing as Garrisons, obviously with all guild members being phased in instead of the one player and invited individuals. I could even accept an instanced area, where you need to "provide a password" to an NPC outside a relatively non-distinctive door to enter.

Such a guild hall/other player housing has been discussed up and down all over the place for years, so I won't bother getting into details, but one thing I really want is a customizable guild Arena, where you can invite other guild groups (and I don't even PvP!), and a guild only crafting order bench/professions room, with improved searching tools to find what guildies can provide.

But it would definitely be cool to have distinct Guild "branding" to be shown in the open world as well, other than the tabard. Perhaps a Guild group mount, sporting a banner with the guild colours and logo? We already have the ridiculously large AH mount, why not something a tad shorter but maybe chonkier, with room for 4 passangers, with said banner belonging to the rider's guild? Req for unlocking such a mount could be something like "have more than 100 (unique) members with exalted guild rep, complete 100 dungeons on mythic difficulty in a guild group, and have 5 AotC guild achievments", just to give it some flash and status attached to it, and it would take a fresh guild 2-3 years to complete.

  3. I'd like an idea of a way to share knowledge. Example my guild dropped the rare alchemy plan from the raid this tier almost 2 months in even know we were full clearing at least on normal from week 1. It went to an officer that got deployed with the Navy 2 weeks later and we didn't see another alchemy plan drop for a few more weeks having to go without during that time. Why can't profession driven players have a way to train or transcribe information to other members over some amount of time. When I think of guilds in anime I think of a place to share and teach each other.
Sure it is kind of neat having that one guy in your guild that everyone goes to, to craft that one thing everyone wants but what if you want to step down from the game or just don't want to always have to show up and made that thing for everyone. Sure someone could go grind it out and spend a lot of money but why can't guild members mentor someone to make that journey cheaper and faster or share rare knowledge.

  4. 100% agree:
*Guild Battle Tag (Alias) – tying vault permissions into this – * Better Alt vs main rank visibility
*Guild Vault API and expanded logging
*LFGuild Enhancements much needed – show progress of guild for current content, unique account logins for last 30Days/with max account filter, etc
*Increase Guild challenge perk rewards to keep up with expansion inflation i.e. guild dungeons
*Multi person Guild Group trading post tokens
*Leader Board – Allow RSS/atom/etc of guild activity so we can have a feed in external soucres to see whats up. Loot, dungeons, etc
*Guild cosmetics! – Dragon armor theme – TIME Gating rewards. Earning lvl 25 when it was new felt good, but having it take a long time for perks / show guild age should be earned not instant gratification

*Auto enable Repairs for attendees of events
*Calendar Improvements – allow api to set RSVPs for Guild Events. Currenlty api can only update Guild member RSVPs not create them unless its a invite only event.
*Guild Airship to send to a location for scheduled events (CD to move the Airship) allowing Guild hearthing to that location long CD hearth

  5. I sadly don't have the time at the moment to flesh this idea out here, but what if there were different styles of Guilds that the GM can chance X amount of times per month/year whatever. (hell maybe even make it a paid service idk)

Rp guilds, Strictly raid/m+ focused guilds, pvp guilds, and general overall community focused guilds.

Each one having different styles of guild bank access, different cosmetic rewards, maybe if guild halls ever became a thing– different cosmetic appearances within them?

  6. I came here thinking "man it would be nice to be able to know my guildies by a single identity when they're on their alts", and I've left convinced that guilds need a complete overhaul to meaningfully encourage short and long term activity and cooperation, and that there are plenty of opportunities to build community and cohesion with guild-specific transmogs.

With regards to guild halls, you're not wrong. They would quickly become a player housing feature with people using private/alt/bank guilds being used solely for this purpose.

  7. They could make guild repair hammers that have 30 charges and a 5min cd or somethings that’s only usable by guild memebers and repairs all gear consuming 1 charge. Stuff like this would be fun, useful and not a power item

  8. This is one of the best sets of ideas I've heard you come up with. WoW has eroded guilds since pugs hit back end of WotLK. Since then, many guilds have largely turned into glorified chat channels. Anything that promotes guild members working together is a good thing. Heck, just adding incentive for guild members to take part in catch up for behind members would promote comeraderie.

A lot of the convenience systems in modern WoW erode long term socialization. Pugs are a few minutes with folks you're likely never going to see again. Open world is largely solitary, only including some limited benefit at endgame. For casual guilds, there's little glue to bind players together, and little reason to bother to try to organize activities.

  9. 14:00 Having a guild group to run dungeons is a massive reason to join a guild. Your logic of running 6 solo or 5 as a group is proof. 20% is massive. As well as the time saved not waiting as long because you have a tank or healer, and the group will usually clear a lot faster too. If I pug Timewalking it can take up to 2 hrs. If my friend and I run them we can get through 2-3 alts in 2hrs, easily. That's just 2 of us. A guild group we can do 4-6 different chars.

  10. i think one thing that we need to make Guilds cool again is Customizable Guild Halls, you may not consider the building important, but you're trying to draw people in to your Guild, right now most people just use Guilds as Bank Tabs and nothing more, including myself.

  11. Also with the guild halls to tell people who are. I think guild mounts that you can customize that you can tell that's a cool mount and unlock customations through doing things. Shoot with dragon riding becoming a thing we could have special perks that the guild can vote on and unlock. Shoot take us to old stuff to unlock different things for our guild mount would bring new life to old content.

  12. The gold rewards from guild dungeon run are the same from when the quests gave 3g. And now quests give 30g… That can be fixed like right away with next patch….

  13. My top wish for guilds is simply allowing for cross realm/server guilds. As someone who is on a very low pop server, finding any guild that fits your playstyle is just …heartbreaking. Having to server xfer to something like Area 52/Stormrage is so costly when you're not even sure if you'll find the right guild on those servers either.

  14. You know what's funny is that even though the guild system hasn't changed much, it destroys what a lot of other MMOs offer. One of my biggest frustrations in New World was that the company management was abysmal, to the point where it was hard to scam-proof yourself and protect your company treasury. I really like your idea for the "Guild" itself to act as an entity to place orders and use the gbank as its inventory. I think that could be big to help the crafting system. I also agree the challenges could use a refresh- the gold rewards haven't been scaled to really match current expansion levels. My idea- Bring back "have group will travel" on an instance by instance basis for doing AOTC, kinda like M+ unlocks portals.

  15. Try this: raids are re-engineered on a 5-player system…. One tank, one healer, three DPS dungeons and mythic dungeon; normal raid is 2 tanks, 2 healers, 6 DPS; heroic raid: 3 tanks, 3 healers, 9 DPS; mythic raid, 4 tanks, 4 healers, 12 DPS; LFR raid 5 tanks, 5 healers 15 DPS…. This way there are always enough tanks and healers to do m+ and raids and guilds aren’t destroyed when a tank or healer leaves, thus drastically reducing guild favoritism and not over working tanks and healers

  16. Guilds need to be smaller. When I say that I mean less individual accounts and more for alts. Right now there are a few big guilds and most ppl don’t know each other. Limit the size of individual accounts to like 40. So you can have 2 raid teams

  17. I can see that you put some very well thought out ideas. It made me miss the guys in our first guild back in vanilla. Collectively, we were wishing for a few of those types of ideas back then. I think you have hit on some great ideas that need to have Blizzard implement into the game.
On the idea of guild members gearing up to look unified, reminded me of another MMO that required guilds to have one outfit that met the requirements for being in that guild. While in guild groups, you were required to wear the "Guild outfit"
When solo playing, or outside of guild group, it was optional. Nice idea for identifying where that player comes from or what guild that they are associated with.
This same MMO had a "guild hall" where you could meet, banking, etc… It also has a portal to guild exclusive raids, dungeons and quests. This MMO is no longer around, but it has many of the ideas that you spoke of.
I hope a lot of attention is brought to your video so Blizzard can see how this is something important to work on in the future for WoW.

  18. I just hope that when guilds go cross-faction they update the queueing system to allow cross faction queueing. Gonna feel really terrible to just not be able to do queued content like Timewalking dungeons together.

    Reply
  19. Now my big question is, if we can be in cross faction guilds, how does that work if we have say 2 or 3 guildies in a group and want to queue for a random / specific dungeon? As it stands right now we cant do Timewalking or Dungeon finder if we are not in the same faction.

  20. Hey Breezy, may i add something about guilds?
There was an idea of guild system, like once you join the guild you get tasks which gives you prestige with the guild, the more you have the more leader see that you're active, once you reach certain point of activity you'd get a chance to get a guild tabard. Guild tabard allows you to join in guild raids, dungeons and such. You upgrade that tabard simply by doing activities.
Second idea is, GvG fights for pvp oriented, just place them in plains and let the rumble begin, the first guild to collect X kills wins and rewards are exlusive titles for certain numbers of wins and such.
Third idea was, for pve GvG, guilds are placed in some raid which has to be done by doing tasks like Warfront, gather that, build that, kill the raid boss, build a bridge in order to get certain raid boss and such.
Guild needs activity, not just "morning, evening, nn, anyone for m+ key?, raid starts @" and such things with time to time some chats.
And you also have great ideas, cheers mate.

  21. hell they need to fix the antisocial part of the game where people join groups and run them not saying a word then leaving. every guild I've been in seems to not take very well to new members they have their little clicks leaving those not included bouncing and bouncing trying to find a guild that is actually social

  22. We need an Ingame recruitment system. The one that is now its old, all the guilds that appear there are from shadowlands and noone is still in them and people dont go to other sites to make accounts, create a CV -> we are not at fcking job !

  23. I reckon all guilds that have low active player count should get prompted to join other guilds, that have also selected to join another guild, this could help people keep the activity alive in guild and a sense of the MMO.
