So the simple answer instead of tinkering with gear is to make matchmaking based on ilevel, period, always, in all cases.
Maybe everything should give conquest and rating could increase the rate at which you get conquest instead. So you could farm the best gear through BG, but it would take forever compared to ranking first ?

The problem with PvP in Shadowlands is that gear doesn't just make you slightly better, it makes you a unbeatable when fighting someone lower than you. I miss the days when you could take on 3 players that were more geared than you IF you were skilled enough.
PVP has been trash every since Rated systems came out, the constant push to make this MMO a freaking E sport is easily the most damaging thing that is being done to this game.
it's too easy for people to carry 0cr. guys rolling around in 220 gear carrying people around 1000. ALL DAY. Too damn long to farm conquest to catch up when you are in blues. People buy boosts because blizzard created the problem. i don't necessarily want to penalize everyone for wanting to play with someone else but there needs to be a penalty for carrying somehow
In my view he cannot see further than the end of his nose… The problem is not that there is 10% or 20% of dmg between fully geared people and lesser geared people…
The problem is that arenas are only damage based ! If arenas would be based on pvp and not pve aka on cc & positionning and not on damage, then this issue is not an issue anymore !
Back in the days, top players could farm people using 3 expansions behind weapons etc… this is not possible anymore… because damage have a too wide window in arenas !

In PvP the iimpact of gear difference is doubled, if not quadrupled. Simply because a 200ilvl character is not only doing half of 226ilvl character's damage to a dummy, but he also has 2/3 of the hp pool and versatility, so the already bigger 226 character's damage is only further increased in proportion. Meanwhile the 200ilvl character's already weaker damage is further weakened in proportion to the massive hp pool and versatility of the 226 character. The difference is dmg done to the target's hp pool is HUGE because of this.
Like say you have a 30k hp warrior that hits 6k with condemn to a dummy, and you have another warrior with 40k hp that hits 12k with condemn on a dummy. The geared warrior is already dealing 2x dmg, but consider the low gear warrior hitting the geared warrior in arena, his versatility is going to reduce the dmg to almost 5k, which is 12,5% of his hp. Now the geared warrior hits the low gear warrior, his versatility is only going to reduce the damage to 11k, which is over 36% of the low gear warrior's hp. Comparatively the geared warrior is chunking the less geared warriors 3 times harder than the opposite, even though he only dealt 2x dmg on a dummy. The difference in damage was doubled when taking practical PvP proportions into account.

Make a pvp league… Instead all playing one leader, make 3 depending on the gear Ilvl. Lvl1 0-200 Ilvl lvl2 201-213. Lvl3 213-226. So when you get a bigger Ilvl you can go to the next league 🙂
I think the way to make it more skill friendly at lower brackets. Is to scale everyones gear down accordingly. So if you are 220 ilvl playing in 1.4k bracket ur gear will be scaled down to combatent ilvl 207. But if ur 190 ilvl playing in 1.6k bracket. Ur gear will ofc be unchanged. So atleast you can feel progression. If you get outskilled. Atleast "get good" actually hold meaning

"Skill gap" = Item level gap. Preach is actually pathetic for not calling this out and everyone saying "based" is completely deluded and distracted by a "Savage moment"

when you reach 1400 and have 207 gear and your starting your grind, the boosters wearing 220s and more need to be bracketed by that ilvl, then they cant mix with alts that are just havin fun in arena. But ofc blizzard won't implement that system, as it actually makes sense! 🙂

I got full honor gear and upgraded in a few days. It wasn't much of a grind.
MoP had the best pvp gear balance
Easy, in rated pvp, everyone has equal gear, let skill determine who is better. The honor/conquest will buy gear that helps for world pvp, questing, pve etc… I personally enjoy world pvp more than rated pvp. That's another thing, where are the weekly pvp quests?????????
The only reason PvP was played in S1 was the gear.
The problem is simple to fix, it simply requires a massive change of direction with the game. Remove Soulbinding on gear. As the season/patch progresses, the number of items on the market increases and the price decreases. Alt become easier to gear as the season progresses, people get to sell items they farmed for. Boosters loses a massive amount of clients and everyone laughs.

The fact that Blizzard has not realized that Battlegrounds and Arena gear stats should not be tied to PvE gear/content AT ALL tells me that this game will never reach a point of balance.
The only long-term goal that doesn’t reinvent itself every single expansion is two separate progression systems SEPARATE from each other completely. One for PvE and one for PvP. That’s obviously the only way.
Almost two decades of research and they cannot figure out how. I just don’t care about wow anymore.
Once a player hit a threshold of 1400 1600 1800 2100 or 2400. What if they can’t drop below that cr/mmr this will stop people tanking for carries and it would be harder to Carry a low mmr/cr / ilvl char vs all 226ilvl. Asmongold what’s your thoughts on this ?

If I remember correctly,, in Cataclysm you received conquest gear, and once you hit 2200 You just unlock the new Skin but the stats are the exact same. I think that is the best way to doi it.

From a new pvp player perspective I think I could contribute a little. I'm turned off by pvp at this point. I thought that this xpac I was gonna finally be able to take arena more seriously and actually have fun playing wow. But when I started my pvp grind from rating 0 and made it to about 800. I gave up. loss after loss after loss while everyone else is sitting at 213 ilvl either from mythics, raids, or doing rbg's and then moving over to arena to stomp people. For people who get late into the season, its hopeless. You have to start grinding the first day of the xpac or you cant catch up. I agree with you asmon. Blizz needs to implement some sort of catch up system to pvp gear for us newer players who like to push later in the season, or adopt an old pvp gearing system like wod or mop. Where there was honor and conquest gear and that was it. Not this leveling each piece of gear to 197 that costs 10000 honor just to have to start pushing rating to get better gear. You have to do tons and tons and tons of arena matches to gear up, and thats assuming you win every single one, which isnt always the case. Better off doing yolo rbg's at that point in lfg and hoping you get wins. They need to rethink the pvp system, and listen to the pvp community, and also listen to the new players who want to pvp. People palying these one shot comps, and have no chance of surviving is also kinda bullshit. How can you counter sub rogue when he saps before he does his one shot combo? Its almost impossible. With pallys you have a small window to dispell or something to prevent their divine toll from doing a 35k judgement crit. And fire mages combustion isnt dispellable from what i know of, so you either have some defensive cd's ready or your dead. its absolutely mind boggling how blizzard just makes it harder to pvp when pvp is already difficult. It's not like raiding or dungeons where you just need to do mechanics. It's not as simple. Sorry for ranting, on a rant video, over another rant video. just figured I could let out my frustrations on the game that i've barely touched for the last 2 months because its just frustrating to play now. Used to be one of my fav games, but I dont see the point anymore.

6:55 Got a fairly basic/simple fix for this that might work "decently" . So people aren't getting the pvp gear, de-ranking themselves and stomping under geared people. Make area match making Rank based AND iLvl based. Now, obviously there could be que issues with this(tho, honestly it'd mainly be the boosters that dropped their rank on purpose that'd be effected.) so it couldn't be EXACT. but for example; when you que have it so only arena teams that are your rank AND within 5iLvls difference be able to match-up. Then after "X" amount of time, have the iLvl incease to 10, 15, 20. Ect. . This wouldn't be perfect, but I don't think "perfect" with a progression system is possible. The more geared player is gonna win unless there is a massive skill gap. That's just MMO 101. And away from making it so there's close to no gear progression or make it so getting better gear is pointless by stat balancing. I don't think there is better way.

The MMO genre has gotten extremely stale and the new MMO's slated to come out probably won't fair well either. Outside of the hardcore MMO community, I've heard absolutely nothing about games like AoC or New World. MMO's are stuck as a genre in this limbo of being popular but also unpopular at the same time, with also having a massive entry gap for new players. They're extremely slow, grindy games and most people these days prefer more interactive gameplay than the click simulator WoW and FF14 can be. Unless an MMO comes out that fixes what's driving away players from the MMO genre and can successfully market itself well, the genre is gonna die lmao.

thats easy fix lock ilvl(overall not equpied) behind brackets make internal q for each one and you wont have 226+ in q with 190-200s
