I’ve never played wow until Shadowlands and I have to say it’s a very bad game.

  1. It's your choice to play by yourself btw, no matter the game. Being forced into a party sucks ass, but given th eoption is the best way to do it and the MMO's I play reward you for teaming up togather. But teaming up is 100% on you and other players. Also if content is way to easy I'll go out of my way to go to enemies that are actually hard for me even if that means the monster is 20 lvls over mine.

  2. Why are we playing MMO's alone and only do anything remotely social through a duty/raid/party finder? Simple Its faster and we have to put up with less peoples bullshit. Don't have to sit on our hands waiting and typing the same message hoping we get a party that may or may not go well. Also its sometimes only the world/story that brings people into a game or Genre like the MMO Genre. I started my MMO journey with WoW as an 11 year old (Currently 27) I thought it was the coolest thing seeing other people running around and I could talk to them, But as I grew up I got more and more jaded to the point where I just want to be by myself in an MMO questing line or storyline in an MMO till others are needed.

Its still cool to me to see so many people running around doing whatever it is that they are doing. Just people imo are for a majority in my mind past the era of "lets wait 30 minutes before even queing or running to the dungeon to try and get a party together" and are more of "Okay level w/e or Okay story dungeon time let me que and watch netflix or sit around w/e main city and talk or people watch till que pops" Its less stress and more simple to do the latter.

Also I'd say alot of people are socially anxious people and it can be a very daunting and sometimes really stress inducing thing to talk to people past a Hey or o/, And sure they could just not play an MMO but I'd say look at my first paragraph where I said its the world/story that brings people in. If anything I'd say blame singleplayer games for not having enough games that have an amazing story/world like FF14 or w/e someone's chosen MMO is. Even if there is a singleplayer game out there like that saaay witcher 3 for example. Sure its an amazing game has amazing DLC to it, But its no longer getting support no more story its over. Meanwhile MMO's at least the money making ones like WoW/FF14 and GW2 are constantly getting new story/outfits/mounts new area's to explore.

  3. I have never EVER ever in my life had a want to play WoW – And this was BEFORE I picked up on FFXIV – The more i saw the characters, the storyline – via memes, friends and what not – I just had LESS Of a care. The aesthetics didn't really make me want to play, the UI kinda makes me confused from a design perspective – and i dunno, there's nothing making me want to play it. Do i have bias? No, because this has been that way the whole time i've known about the game XD

  4. Gameplay is just boring that's why I've never liked MMOs unless they have a cool combat system I just don't care the exception being black desert that game has a great combat system but I have zero idea wtf I'm supposed to do

  5. Funny how people believe wow determines the "state of mmos". Look at a game like guild wars 2 and you see a large player base and systems that give them reason to continue playing the game the same way after max level, there isn't the drop off as soon as you achieve the prizes the game creates, and there is a great system that encourages people to play together without the hassle of forming groups and competing for loot.

  6. You gave it an honest try. It's ffxiv for my mmo fix right now but as people say it has its cons too. I think WoW can be good again with like maybe a wow 2 relaunch in the future …same with a ff17(within 5/6) years. Mmo's are a changing. Roll on New World and perhaps Ashes of Creation🍀

  7. I think it's ironic that I just noticed, that Bellular made a video 1 week ago called "Is Questing in modern WoW just boring" Unfortunately, I think for the most part it is. I can't even understand the story unless I purchase books to fill me in. Why would we do that though? The story should be in the game and complete.

  8. The truth is if you don't like mythic raiding, high keys, and PvP, then WoW offers nothing for you. Also if you don't have exp in the type of content you want to do it's hard to break in. This game offers no path of progression for casual players. Proffs have no depth and pretty much are useless, world content is brain dead, choreghast is awful and whether you clear TC8 is in rngs hands, you STILL can't solo MToS/ToV/Antorus so that solo collect content is dead, there is no mage tower/vision solo prog, the anima grind for cosmetics is awful, and the only real last bastion for casual play is RP. It's fine if you only do +10's or heroic raid, but you'll never really be competitive and you can't get those cool top end rewards. Out of the past 5 xpacs only 1 has been more than good and it was legion. The story is presented horribly especially compared to ffxiv. Even if you're playing WoW with friends, if they don't share the same goal it's going to cause tension. I love M+, but there is no point in doing anything beyond KSM, because there are no higher rewards. On top of all this it's having the same or longer patch cycles as ffxiv, where before BFA they had the edge in releasing content faster. Like WoW lives and dies on how fast it pumps content out. 1 raid and 8 dungeons for like 10 months is unacceptable (assuming 9.1 is august) especially historically you think BC-MoP we had 3 raids in the first tier and 10+ dungeons. Also let's not forget that blizzard fix bugs (and usually bugs that don't matter) once every planetary alignment. The MC bug has existed since alpha/beta, DH's have been taking 15% less magic damage the entire xpac due to a bug, the pelagos soulbind was increasing magic damage taken instead of reducing it the entire xpac, stone legion generals pepelaugh, and the list goes on. WoW is a bad game, but I still like it and I want it to be good again for casuals and hardcore players like it was in TBC/Wrath/Cata/MoP/Legion.

  9. Great video Brian.

When wow started, it gave players the opportunity to explore a world in which you may have played 2 to 3 strategy games. The exploration and leveling and building your toon was fun.

Mmos have evolved. Its less about exploring and building communities, and more about the end game grind for gear.

Idk if games can go back to the exploration and community driven feelings. Gw2 tried that in some ways, and you said yourself, people aren't talking about it. Ffxiv made story first and foremost, then let you stay and delve deeper into their world. ESO keeps pumping out zones and quests to keep the numerous stories going. So there are ways to build your game, it just needs to be done right. Wow only has its gear grind and nostalgia (and inability to leave something with so much time/money invested) to keep it going. You hit the nail on the head. There just isn't anything worthwhile in wow anymore. You don't need people except for bodies to fill group slots ( which is sadly like most other games).

Sorry, this went all over the place. Great video

  10. I can agree with changing how to recommend 14 to players and how to approach it. There's a streamer and his wife going through the story right now, but instead of going by themselves, another streamer that is their friend and at end game is going through the story with them and reading/voicing everything and having a great time together. And I've been very much enjoying seeing that

  11. Having played FF14 and WoW one thing WoW does better is random loot drops there are none in FF14 with mobs. In WoW there is always a chance to get something of real value even off trash mobs and world mobs, granted most is just junk you either sell or discard but it helps break up the monotony of fetch quests. Overall though got to say FF14 is just better.

  12. WoW is for competitive team gameplay only – Mythic+ and raids are the best in its genre – the rest is just shalllow filler content which keeps you occupied for maybe a month or two. Shadowlands released in November 2020, now it seems like the next patch with at least some decent content will be released in August 2021! Nearly a year after launch! 50% of the players from launch have bailed the game already – from fatigue and content draught. I only play WoW at launch to meet old gaming friends which always show when a new WoW expansion releases. I could mention at least 10 mmo's I would rather play with my friends, but it's a pity only WoW can bring us together 🙁

  13. I watched a lot of your stuff and I know you give every game a chance and be unbiased as possible. Even though you weren’t a WoW player, it still surprise me that you really don’t like WoW. Thanks for being honest and putting your feelings out there

  14. I've played both WoW since launch and FFXIV since ARR and I pretty much unsubcribed and uninstalled WoW as soon as i hit max level in shadowbringers. My peak enjoyment from WoW was during the TBC and Wrath expansions which i still think is WoW's peak and it's been on a steady decline since then.

I still log in everyday to FFXIV because i genuinely have fun playing the aspects of the game I enjoy, with WoW it just felt like daily chore simulator and that's when i realized that I just can't have fun with the game anymore like I used to. Neither WoW or FFXIV are perfect, I've just come to terms with the fact that for me personally FFXIV will always be the more enjoyable experience.

Blizzard is never going to be able to bring back the glory days of the MMO, those are long gone. At this point it's going to take a entirely new game backed by a new development team to breath fresh air back into the genre and in all honesty the only game that seems to the closest to being able to achieve that is Ashes of Creation. Only time will tell.

  15. most fun I ever had with WoW was MANY years ago. On a trial account in the Worgan starter zone. Pretty much due solely to the fact that whole section had REAL direction and a story.

AND THEN … I finished it. Got dumped into Nightelf land …. randomly wander around and level up and do stupid bullshit quests, the type everyone bitches about, for i donno how long, until i got high enough level for the game to get 'good', and it totally lost me.

Now I do realize I was on a trial account and that I was never gonna get to the 'it's fun now' level with out shelling out cash. Thing is. A trial account is supposed to make you WANT to pay up to keep playing, and it really did the opposite. So dropped it, uninstalled and never looked back.

Then the whole 'Blitzchung' event happened and now I'll NEVER touch another Blizzard game again.Even if it's free.

  16. Hi Brian. Just speculating here…maybe WoW and other games could adapt some of 14's systems like Mentors, Sprouts and the Mentor Channel without the one time incentives/bribes that made them not work in 14 (ok, we know giving out crowns and mounts doesn't work so maybe we don't do that this time).

Because the idea of incentivizing taking players into your group and helping them out when they need it and vice versa seems like it should work to help with these problems.

So is it an implementation issue, or something else?
