HAVOC DH | Stats & Gearing EXPLAINED! | Havoc Demon Hunter Shadowlands
So the first thing we should talk about is Stat Weights. Let me start by saying this – Stat weights are never absolute. They’re fluid and constantly changing depending on the gear you equip and how much of a certain stat you have. For example – You could sim yourself one day and see that haste is your highest weighted stat so you take that information and only target pieces of gear with high haste values, you have A MILLION HASTE. The next time you go to sim yourself you might be surprised to see that haste is no longer as valuable to you. Your stat weights might also change from build to build. Your most valuable stat in your single target build might not be your best in your AoE build.
The best way to use stat weights is as a guideline. It tells you “generally” what you should be looking for. Once you get the gear, you should then sim it by using the best in bags feature on raidbots (If you guys are unclear on how to sim yourself, I can make an updated video on that. Let me know in the comments if that’s something you’d like to see).
There’s ONE rule that will always stay true though. iLvl is king. This is because our primary stat, Agility is worth SO MUCH more than any secondary stat – double, triple sometimes even quadruple the amount of some stats.
For example if you have a 213 Belt with perfect stats but you also have a 226 belt with suboptimal stats, due to the raw amount of Agility the 226 gives, it will be the better option.
The only exception to this rule would be for jewelry slots – necks and rings. These items don’t have any primary stat at all so in this case you’d want to prioritize having the appropriate secondary stats.
Now let’s talk about secondary stats and why Havoc is in a really strange spot with their design.
None of the secondary stats, crit, haste, vers or mastery really do anything all that spectacular for us.
We aim for a certain amount of haste (generally ~15% unbuffed) to get a second Death sweep within a demonic window, anything more is just icing on the cake.
Crit doesn’t do anything for us aside from.. Well, allowing our spenders to potentially crit. One of our big hitting abilities, Eye Beam, is already guaranteed to Crit so that extra crit value is essentially wasted any time we press Eye Beam. Back in Legion, we had a mechanic where every time Chaos Strike/Annihilation crit it would refund 20 fury so crit was very valuable.
Mastery increases our Chaos damage and Movement speed. This sounds good in theory but unfortunately, if you’re running a single target build, a large portion of your damage will be coming from Blade Dance / Deathsweep which is all physical damage and less from your abilities that deal Chaos damage.
So that leaves us with Versatility. Which just… increases our damage across the board. Pretty boring, huh? Versatility is valuable to us simply because everything else just kind of sucks and has no interaction with what we do.
pay attention to what weapon damage is weighted. It’s our highest weighted factor by a TON so if you get a higher ilvl weapon than what you have currently but it has some Mastery on it.. Don’t even worry about it. It will be substantially better purely for the raw weapon damage.
In the Single Target weights, we can see that haste/crit/vers are all weighted fairly close to each other. Again, this is because in this build, a large portion of our damage comes from Blade Dance which deals physical damage.
Looking at the AOE weights, we can see that Mastery actually increased from 0.75 to 1.52 putting it more in-line with the other stats.
Let’s say for example you’re running the typical M+/Raid AoE build – Blind Fury, Glaive Tempest, Cycle of Hatred. This build is based around using abilities which all deal Chaos damage and unless you’re playing the hybrid build with the Chaos Theory legendary, you’re pressing Blade Dance a lot less than you would in the Single Target build.
Eye Beam, Glaive Tempest, Chaos Strike/Annihilation and even Fel Rush are all purely Chaos damage and benefit from Mastery.
Now I’m not saying Mastery is good. I’m not saying you should be targeting it on your gear. In fact it’s pretty clear by looking at both of these images that Versatility is of utmost importance next to Haste. Unfortunately, a lot, and I mean A LOT of items from Castle Nathria and M+ have Mastery on them. The only way to get pure Haste/Vers gear is to PvP.
IN SUMMARY –
ILVL (w/ Agility) IS KING
ADJUST YOUR NECK/RINGS FOR SECONDARY STATS
WEAPON DAMAGE IS TOP PRIORITY
MASTERY IS NOT THE DEVIL (But it’s also not great)

Hey jedith, i got one question. I got myself a 226 back and 226 wrist so its kinda weird to craft the collective anguish legendary do you think i should still go for it or not id rather go for chaos theory on hands would this be bad for m+ dungeons? what do you think?
Liked for the intro
Does 2.5k dps outside of demon form sound about right for a ilvl 190 havoc just wondering if I'm in the ballpark or if I should work on refining my rotation a little better
