Exactly what happened to me. I bought WoW for my oldest son, who was playing RuneScape at the time. He invited me to create a character for myself. He eventually wasn’t into the game… I got addicted.
My dad had been playing since beta and I was really young (born in 2000) and he loved gaming so he was always on it. Obviously as we grow we become curious of things so eventually he got tired of me sitting in his lap wanting to play and when I was 10/11 2010/2011, he got me my own account with his second email so I could play with him and I’ve been on and off ever since because it always brings old memories back 🙂
My dad bought me the game when it came out and then I barely got to raid at max level bc he did the same thing you said and now that account is his and all my characters are on and it would just be too expensive to switch them all over to a new account so I just left them there lol. He’s an amazing dad and has always been so easy to get along with and spend time with. You probably have the same relationship with yours. Wish you and your family the best. Just thought you’d like to know there’s other cool ass dads like yourself out there and that you’re very appreciated by those you love for being who you are. Much love brother.
My dad started playing it and from time to time, i stand right next to him playing his night elf warrior. This was in the beginning of Classic of 2005. I asked if i could play and my dad let me make my very first Night Elf hunter. I still have that character. I still use his account for my characters for a seperate realm than what his main characters are on. Thats how i started my WoW journey
Edit: I was 8 years old at that time. Forgot to put that in
