How to Unlock Allied Races in Shadowlands: Dark Iron Dwarves & Mag'har Orcs

NOTE: If you complete Ready for War on Alliance, you can actually start the Mag’har Orc questline to unlock the race, and vice versa with the Horde equivalent of Ready for War. BUT this only works with the Dark Iron Dwarves and the Mag’har Orcs, not the Zandalari and the Kul Tirans.

Battle for Azeroth was the expansion that introduced the concept of allied races. With 10 new races which are unlocked in different ways, it can be a little tough to get started. So, in this guide series, I will go over how to unlock each of the allied races in Shadowlands 9.1, in as simple and easy a manner as possible.
For this video, I’ll be tackling the Dark Iron Dwarves and the Mag’har Orcs; races, you can actually work on unlocking simultaneously with the Zandalar Trolls and the Kul Tiran Humans.
As always, feel free to leave questions or comments in the section below. I hope you enjoy ^^

  1. When I finished "Ready For War" on the Alliance side, the quest to unlock Mag'har orcs popped up for me in the Orgrimmar embassy. In my experience "Ready for War" is shared across factions, but other people have reported different results.

To elaborate, I bought the game during BFA. I levelled my Human paladin through Highmountain on my way from 100 to 110. But I couldn't unlock Highmountain Tauren because I hadn't got Exalted with them. After I hit level 120, I mostly concentrated on BFA stuff. I unlocked the Alliance BFA Allied races, first the Dark Irons, then the Kul Tirans and finally the Mechagnomes. I also levelled a Horde Demon Hunter to 120 but didn't do much with him.

When the Shadowland pre-patch hit, I figured that with the reputation requirement removed, I could now unlock Highmountain Tauren. So I took my Horde demon hunter (now level 50) the the Orgrimmar embassy. I expected the Highmountain Tauren to be available for recruitment, and indeed they were. But I also had the quest to unlock the Mag'har. I know for a fact that I hadn't done "Ready for War" on the horde-side yet.
