I Put OpenAI In World of Warcraft! (ChatGPT)

This video briefly summarizes how AI is being used in Ember, a World of Warcraft RP server, to interact with NPCs around the world.

This is only the beginning of a broader concept, one that will inevitably reach other games. With the capability of A.I attached to an RP server, it’s thoughtful that one day this will become a dungeon master capable of serving any player in any location.

The following is an example of the prompt being used in the video :

You are a Dungeon Master, roleplaying as Varian Wrynn in the setting of World of Warcraft, Wrath of the Lich King. You are talking to Grimreapaa, a Draenei Hunter. Your response may be short or long, but cannot include subject matter outside the World of Warcraft universe. Grimreapaa says, ‘stuff here’. How does Varian Wrynn respond?

  1. Could you make a longer video on this? When I first saw the video, I thought you'd just put the GPT interface into WoW, but this is extremely useful for roleplay. I'm surprised people aren't making a bigger deal about the functionality of GPT in MMOs…

  2. Thats really cool! it's gonna cost a lot tho, queries are expensive 🙁
What happens if multiple players talk to the npc at once?
also what happens if you're only interacting with other player in chat but near npc?

  3. This is why my entier team halted all production. Releasing anything atm would be detrimental to its longevity. It would be unwanted simply because you can’t chat with the ingame npc or pick up and Apple and eat it in real time. It’s just not smart it’s smart to just keep asking for api and research docs to assist in making a legit role playing game

  4. I hope OpenAI can also be used in conjugation with player bots to simulate a living breathing world. How much better can player bots be made to allow for 1 human servers that feels like a normal server?

  5. So, this is amazing and I want this very much. Imagine if this were implemented into any game where the player is free to say whatever comes to mind. In this game, alone, I can imagine just walking around Stormwind and chatting it up with a guard. Man, do I ever want this…

  6. Very cool, I had a similar idea a while back to replace all of the scripted text that would appear above npcs heads in RuneScape with dynamic text of a fitting theme (old English etc), never thought about the user actually asking the npcs questions directly though.

  7. I just downloaded voiceover, and had to look up some videos to make it work properly. Then this comes up, imagine they working togheter… Is it realistic to even hope for that?

Will either way definatly support the project

  9. Years ago , one reviewer slammed Doom as you could only shoot the demons , and not talk to them /talk them into helping you …well it looks like technology finally caught up with his vision!!

  10. Amazing! I was looking for that. This could be truly gamechanging! Why stop at npc interactions? Imagine a world map generator which extends the world in an original manner maybe just for you, imagine story generators and make the world endless. Azeroth REBORN!
P.S. Working as r&d data engineer in AI already, would support the project anytime.
