Curious as to how good the brand new RTX raytracing is in World of Warcraft Shadowlands?

In this video I’ll do side by side comparisons throughout each of the new zones in Shadowlands to try and give you all a better understanding of RTX in World of Warcraft. Ray Tracing effects the shadows in World of Warcraft by allowing them to be rendered from multiple directional light sources.

If there is anything else you’d like to see just let me know in the comments below!

  1. Blizz should focus their efforts on raid performances, fps when fighting bosses (even in old raids) is most of the time a fps killer. I play on at 3400×1440 120hz with a 2080TI and I get 50 fps in Antorus in a 10 man group…and we're in 2020. To me that says it all. Before implementing new fps sucking features they should improve what we already have.

  2. I just wanted to say – I've just logged in to the prepatch and the performance hit seems to be much much better. I'm now dropping around 8% when I enable RTX, much better than on the beta!

  3. This is one of the best comparision videos. Thank you for that.

I think value of the effect of raytraced shadows is entirely subjective though.

Is it worth it for the casual gamer? Hell no!
Is it worth it for the graphics connoisseur who enjoys the small details? I do think so.

Would love Blizzard to expand this feature to full global illumination. It'd really make WoW look great.

  4. I think that's easily the poorest choice of examples to showcase what RTX is meant to do, that I've ever seen… The first scene is even worse! I'm not sure you know exactly what RTX is meant to do?
The examples showed literally NOTHING of the things you would look for in raytracing… Like how your armor looks close up, illuminated by light sources and itself (glowing armor…). How your red-glowing daggers throw a glow onto the Wall you're running next to, how a fire throws your shadow onto the wall when running past and so on. I couldn't have chosen worse scenes if I tried. And just to make it COMPLETELY pointless: Zoom out the camera all the way….
