NEW Shadowlands 9.1 PvP Gear System – The Good, the Bad, & the Boosted

Shadowlands Patch 9.1 looks to change the current gearing system for PvP. As mentioned in a previous video, Blizzard is trying to adopt the WoD gearing system. The PvP Vendor has not yet seen change; however, Wowhead has datamined PvP item level scaling on gear. Since then, Blizzard has come out to comment on the change, letting players know can expect a new system. And although it will address the concerns of many raiders and Mythic + players, the system does little to address the current boosting problem that is plaguing the game.

Overall, I believe the system to be an improvement, but we need to see Blizzard change the item level offered on PvP gear. Currently, the item level gap on PvP gear is too large, causing the community to turn towards gold sellers and boosters to acquire such gear. Having a static item level across honor and conquest gear could be an easy solution to the problem. Another solution could be reducing the item level between rating brackets, thus creating a more even playing field for new players. Nonetheless, the system should not be released in the current state.

  1. Indeed it should start at 226 on the right side or whatever is necessary to make it so it only jumps 2-3 item levels every time. It still rewards handsomely the players who do best but keeps the community closer together without a massive gear power spike from unranked to duelist . It's hard enough to be learning PVP, new players shouldn't feel hopelessly useless because of gear, not saying players shouldn't be rewarded for doing better, but the huge gap is not necessary in gear they have plenty to overcome just with the skill gap already. Making the gear gap less dramatic sounds like a healthy change. A very good simple proactive change they could do before 9.1 benefits everyone in PVP new players and alts. I really like the WOD model for gear, especially if we can get catch up systems for alts now, and nobody feels "forced" to do anything they don't want to since PVP gear will be worse for PVE. It felt like shit to be forced into the PVE random loot clown fiesta in BFA grinding content I did not enjoy made into a chore, so I don't want PVE players to feel the same, it sucks.

  2. If you compress the ilvl range as you mentioned, it won't "feel" worth it to keep grinding rank either. Going up 1 ilvl as a reward for hitting 1800 will be so negligible in noticeable character improvement.

  3. Imo they should make it like honor gear at specific ilvl and same for conquest gear, but conquest gear would if you progress through rating, like trinkets rings neck and cloak unranked etc.
Or 3 sets in total, 1 honor, and 2 conquest, first conquest set at ilvl in between of honor and second conquest set ilvl, first set available for everyone, second set unlocked at certain rating like 1800 or 2000, what’s more when you hit higher rating it gives you +x% increase to conquest gains.

And yeah, the ilvl difference in a single season is way too big. We got ilvl squish in bfa, the end of bfa max ilvl close to 500, next ilvl squish, now max ilvl in first patch of shadowlands is 227, so we gonna end up in shadowlands with 500 again and another ilvl squish? The difference between honor and conquest set in a single season should be like 10-15 ilvl, next season honor gear should be 5 ilvl higher than previous season conquest gear. That’s my point of view

  4. a factor of this problem sounds like the GEAR JUMP. there shouldnt be so much of a huge gap between gear that would make this happen. if that wasnt that case than someone couldnt come in with maxed out gear and boost some nobody for gold because they will not have that huge gear advantage.

WoW always has a huge problem with gear and stat growth. they keep on having to do stat squishes and they never learn

  5. I just hit 1600 on my feral in 2s realy happy to upgrade to 213 no idea how i am gonna make it to 1800 with that ilvl tho, thinking of doing rbgs since 1800 is decently easy to hit there

  6. Just remember, those who buy rating are most likely casuals or people who want to speed things up (progress raiders). And they are most likely inclined to buy wow tokens, who are sold by Blizz at 15$. So….maybe it is a way to get more revenue, at the cost of a good game lol.

  7. Another big problem is that people want to do nothing and in return want max ilvl gear nowadays. People don’t want to do anything to earn there gear or grind for it. I feel like that is a big portion of people’s crying today.

  8. They need to separate the pvp and over boxes or pvp participation will lose all pve players because I can't pick pvp gear from the box so I'll be rediculously behind in arena and just won't play it which is sad cause I enjoy it.

  9. I love the current system, the wod system was trash. It's also nice to pvp as much as I want and still be geared enough to raid with my guild without having do do m+ or grind heroics

  10. I think the raiting system is fine, but they should make all brackets gear to scale to the same ilvl in pvp scenario. So in arena everything is skill based, but you get better gear for other activities that are going outside of pvp.

Also they should add shop with mythic gear for Valor point, make it possible to buy VP for CP and CP for VP (like it was in Cata). So people from pve could get pvp gear and vice versa, that would make it easier for people to do more kinds of content.

  11. Im pretty sure people would get bored over time to see their gear upgrading per 2l ivl as they tryhard in pvp. It won't feel as much of a reward and a progression for the caracter, something that even pvpers still cares about

  12. can we give this guy a medal seriously!! carring that much about the pvp community and the new player that are trying to improve in the game i mean for me it worth so much!!!
its like blizzard is making a system so that high rated player are so much more geared and better than regular player when even if you take out the gear system and you put everyone on the same ILVL these pro player/pro streamer would still crush the average Jo cuz they have way more experience and knowledge of the game but it would make new player that are actualy good gamer motive to rank up their rating and impove
I might be wrong im not a 3k layer but im pretty sure that those player what they want is not better gear if your playing at 3k rating and more your just trying to prove that you are one hell of a good player!
I dont mind seeing streamer doing some 2s with their viewers a 2-2.1k rating the problem is dont bring (not gonna mention a specific name) 3k/awc rogue or mage with a 1200 rating player even if its for just a couple games cuz maybe the game your gonna carry your viewer your gonna play agaisnt a 2 guy that have been watching video and tried to improve for couple of weeks and this was their 1400/1600/ game!

  13. Really glad you touched on the item level difference between PvP brackets as it stands. That's for sure what's killing it for me. You hit the nail on the head, yes there should be some progression but, definitely NOT 7 item level per teir.

  14. Why bother gearing for the expac and going through hell of lfg system for a chance to maybe get 2k after hours and hours of sitting finding group's, if they just make the gear you got useless when season is over 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ this game is becoming a league of legends fun for a year or so but then you get over it cause why bother progressing for things that become irrelevant in another month, just keeep one season per expac or two seasons at minimum. They need to focus attention on content and new bgs etc, not go around making boosters the key to success cause every arena you do has a 226 ilvl you have to try beat to get up rating its dumb, also why not make world pvp good? Give incentives for world pvp?

  15. I find it funny that so many streamers advocated for removale of PvP-scaling just before SL came out, and they knew this new PvP-system would be a reality. PvP-scaling in regards of gear should fix many of these boosting scenarios. I have sat and played whole night with a mate (we are rubbish geared etc.), but, nonetheless: not fun having to deal with 20 k hunt, and the "booster" is not even a good player.

  16. I'm stuck right at 200. I can't pvp to get higher because I just get wrecked in arenas, bg's are 20 minutes of "maybe I'll get a piece of usable gear this game" and pve doesn't excite me to run nathria week after week because then I don't have time to play the PVP I want. Getting conquest without a group seems almost impossible. One random bg is 40? then nothing. So doing random bg's IF I win every day I can get like 100-150… real good when I have a cap of 8000+. So one bg, one epic bg, one arena skirmish and one brawl (if one is up). Daily I can get barely any conquest. There are days I've done 5+ bg's and not won a single one. So there's another day to add to my conquest cap that I'll never fill because I can't get gear because I can't get conquest, and because I can't get conquest to get gear, I can't get invited to groups to get conquest.

  17. a reaaally well done video, the moment i heard they were going back to wod, my eyes shined, but then i saw the post, and saw the scalling inside pvp still had a big gap between ranks, i had the same idea as stoopz, take the higher one, and put minus 2/3 ilvl per rank, about honor gear, i think they should abandon the rank on it, make it low ilvl outside pvp, but it scales in pvp to -4 or 5, to the unranked cq gear

  18. I think its important that these barriers to play shouldn't be such a big wall its ok that they are there to, its suppose to take a bit of time of needs to be fixable to a person that just got in the game

  19. Wouldn't be so bad if they didn't take away pvp scaling inside bgs/arena but they did and i know why, To make money selling boost plain and simple. Awc gives everyone the same gear to play they should grind and get the gear each match right just like the rest of the player base.

  20. THANKS for this video. Some really good thoughts and points here. In addition to lowering the ilvl difference between brackets I think they should spread out unlocks more so that instead of unlocking gear upgrades for your entire gear set at 1400/1600/1800/2100 you instead unlock upgrades for parts of your set every 50 or 100 rating. For example you'd unlock a few items at 1200, some at 1250, 1300 and 1350 until you unlock your final combatant gear pieces at 1400 (including weapon). Same for 1400->1600, 1600->1800 etc. That way you further avoid big gear caps between someone at e.g. 1599 and 1600 rating. Plus you incentivize people to keep pushing more rating, because you just need 50 more rating for the next upgrade instead of 200-300 more.

  21. Everyone should be able to get to the same ilevel in PVP. Make it slower for people with worse ratings but make it attainable. Give elite players different xmogs color or some shit. The game is crap when you are at 1600 and always going against 226 players. Blizzard does give a shit because boosting equals accounts. Needing to buy millions of gold to buy a boost means accounts had to farm that gold which means more money for blizzard. They love the wow gold farming accounts. I think I’m done with the game because I hit 1800 in arena and I can’t see getting any better and I don’t want to risk dropping below 1800. 220 gear 235 legendary I ain’t got shit to do but RBGs and in two hours you get in one game because it’s an hour to find a tank and heals and a boomie then you lose and it’s another hour finding a group again.

  22. He brought up a good point about people buying tokens to get gold for boosting. How much is Blizzard making from that and why would they ever cut down a revenue source that way?

  23. The gearing is like giving a professional MMA fighter a machine gun, and handing a novice fighter a squirt gun. At some point it doesn’t matter if the MMA fighter is a professional fighter…

  24. Blizzard cant shring gear down with 4 raid difficulty levels people would not bother do higher difficulty of content and shrink itemlvl just in pvp makes no sense becouse it will make pve gear more powerfull unlease you nerf pve gear to pvp itemlvl when in pvv and in such case its nothing but Legion templates.

There is only 1 ultimate solution to this. Removal of difficulty levels. Blizzard has to stop cuttering game for everybody and simply accept that some players simply wont get to see 100% of wow content. It would fix so many problems.
