Spoiler alert! So in the firelands raid in cata we kill Ragnaros since if you kill a elemental lord in their own domain they are dead forever. So ragnaros was known as the fire lord but since he died someone could take that title! So in the new amirdrassil raid the 3rd to last boss (Smolderon) is the new firelord 🙂
