Shadowlands Lore Problems PLAGUE Dragonflight?!

Read more about Shadowlands ➜ https://worldofwarcraft.mgn.gg

It’s abundantly clear that Shadowlands is not going away. Blizzard not only refuses to retcon Shadowlands once and for all, but is bringing the style of its lore, in grandiose cosmological fashion, to Dragonflight, allegedly the most grounded expansion that we’ve had in a long time. If there’s one thing clear, Shadowlands lore problems plague Dragonflight, and this has left myself and others quite upset.

It always important to temper expectations, but World of Warcraft Dragonflight is meant to be a step in the right direction, so why start us off with a vague and unclear direction about lore that we all unanimously groaned about these past few years? The Makers, the Black Empire, all of these world-ending forces need to be put on a shelf so that we can experience the world once more, and improve upon Azeroth for all types of players, PVP, PVE and RP players.

Focusing on these things will strengthen the World of Warcraft community and game, but spending time on esoteric and ultimately irrelevant factoids surrounding the Titans and uncertainty regarding the world’s very own creation only creates more problems over solutions.

Such problems arise that the Black Empire and the Old Gods are somehow a victim of Titanic revisionist history? Absurd.

  1. I can understand wanting to make the Old Gods look bad, you have them locked away for good reason but with this it does make it sound like The Old Gods weren't nearly as bad as we were first lead to believe. While I like having a moral grey area for some stuff, sometimes we just need evil for the sake of evil and making even Old Gods, who have a being with teeth for eyes on their side, as morally grey is just a bit much.

God, why are we doubling down on Shadowlands lore?! Seriously, not nearly as many people are focused on the crazy titan stuff. While I like that it exists as I do enjoy some grand scale stuff, after Shadowlands, we truly do not need it for a few expansions. Please Blizzard, pull back and take let people "relax" on Azeroth. Let us fight a few minor enemies for a while, we don't need a cosmic encounter with higher and higher stakes every expansion.

  2. They need to stop caring about the Cosmo wars and "the Titans are liars". People only cared about sargares because he was the leader of the burning legion that did massive invasions and greatly effected the characters. But that is the thing, they effected the characters we grew attached to. There is a reason people cared about arthas, guldan, deathwing, etc. Because they were characters from the world of Warcraft that we saw/read grow and change into villains that effected the characters we liked and were often the catalyst for change and gaining the characters we like. Without arthas sylvanas, Uther, jaina, and muradin are less impactful because we saw them get betrayed by someone who wants to turn everyone literally into mindless zombie slaves. Guldan betrayed the orcs multiple times and is why orcs are the way they are. Often trying their best to distance themselves from what guldan made them to be. Deathwing while mystical force is still pretty grounded in the world itself, we see the other dragon aspects and know of them, and actively was apart of the second war, the war of the ancients, and literally changed the world so yeah he impacted most characters. A titan like Norgannon is just the background stuff that doesn't actively take impact. It is basically like how elune was where yeah they may be mentioned but they don't really play a part. Elune wasn't who stopped the war of the ancients, it was tyrande, malfurion and illidan. The Titans worked best as gods we know exist and did some medeling but they are off doing more important things than us. Only sargares sends armies to invade us honestly probably because he got mad his first invasion failed. But the game got power crept too hard. We literally destroyed a titan, not push away or destroy a avatar, no we killed argus and they went to the afterlife. That is just too much. I fully believe they should have ended at legion and went on for a Warcraft 4 because we done everything.

  3. I'd take a revamped azeroth over any zepellin morbid or whatever they come up with next. I remember people complained about revamped Zul'Gurub and Zul'Aman endlessly in Cata, and they still think we don't want them to revamp old content.

  4. If they really wish to expand on this First Ones stuff it's all fine and dandy, but that's exactly the kind of material that would fit external media: comics, books, short stories on their website, a spinoff game, etc. Heck, they could do a brand new tabletop RPG for all I care. They stopped doing all of this for whatever reason and are making this endless fluff the focus of WoW and I think it's a big mistake. I tried to make my girlfriend fall in love with WoW during Shadowlands (we started on BFA and she liked the setting and cared somewhat for it) but the lack of focus on the player races, their lands and cultures make core Warcraft mean jack shit to new players. Nobody is ever going to fall in love for this game anymore if they don't realize where their strenght lies and start focusing on bringing that to the forefront.

  5. For some reason YT is deleting my comments.
Also you are right, my only hope now is MS cleaning the house once the deal is done.

Also Galvinrad, if you are on the skyrim SE side of things along with the RP community group.

Tell them to check it out Iroquin's creations on nexus and NakhalG's Warlord's Armory.

He is rebuilding all of warcraft 3 cinematic models as armors.

  6. Thinking of starting over on a new server in the prepatch…really interested in the rp events you mentioned…are they cross server? How do I find and join them as someone with no rp experience?

  7. Thanks for another great video! Everything you posted I deeply feel and support. There's so much they could do with the existing world. entire cities they could rebuild, races without racial homes (so many refugee peoples that may make new players rather stuck and frustrated I would think), heck the TBC instanced areas are still a mess with Exodar and Silvermoon never finished/not flyable/instanced, etc.Instead of dragonflight, they should have doubled down on the glory of the old by rebuilding, expanding, on the existing. Cataclysm did that in a way, and felt progressive to story etc. Heck even a series of epic patches in their expansions dedicated to rebuilding efforts, to help balance need for new areas worthy of a price tag, that would be fine too. Or another series of Gates of AQ events where you collected and worked to reopen/rebuild would have been phenomenal.

  8. jesus christ im getting bored of the whole "is the bad guy really the bad guy hmmmmmm>????" angle they're going with, because it always ends the same fucking way: yes. the badguy was the fucking badguy.

  9. Great vid. Do you remember the first time you saw that cosmology chart from Chronicles? I thought it was super cool and stared at it for a long time. I get the feeling the narrative team is hard-stuck on that feeling with the cosmology chart and is basing everything they do on it. They need to get rid of Danuser and replace him with someone who knows how to write compelling high fantasy

  10. I don't play WoW any longer, but I do keep up a bit with the lore (or rather I used to, I checked out with Shadowlands). The game feels vastly different than what it was and at the simplest level it just isn't relatable. The earlier expansions where you're basically just a dude trying to serve your faction, solve issues around the world, and then deal with threats as they came up worked. Now you're being conscripted to fight in the afterlife, because if you don't a bad guy will win? No thanks. Boiled down it's similar to dealing with the Burning Legion, but that was an ongoing threat we'd know of and related to in the past. Creating what is an extremely one dimensional villain because the expansion needs one doesn't hit the same as past villains had (because he's not relatable and ultimately we know we'll succeed and move on to the next boss in the next expansion). It's just lazy and sloppy.

  11. Honestly, I think the possibility of a skip in the wow timeline may be necessary. I think in continuity wise, a decade and some change has passed since vanilla to now (I think). I really think wow should push the story forward even more years into the 5th war after blizzard chooses a big bad to conclude our current continuity.

Give a restart to the story again and have a big world war occurring between all the factions on Azeroth vying for power.
Make the ties between the alliance a little bit looser and have them do actually disturbing behavior instead of being wows default good guy
Make the hordes council become better and make the horde stand up for honor and not redo the past mistakes

Let’s see how the characters have changed with war, conflict, and division, unity, and the fostering of new alliances

The world we have right now feels like it’s strictly alliance and horde based. It doesn’t feel like there are factions that have a shred of power to the grand alliance and horde, because they have legit gone against the demon lord of the universe and won. Let’s break up their unity and make global conflicts occur z

  12. I not sure if is people that work in blizzard or not, but if you go to official forums and suggest something similar, they will say: "This is boring." or "Will be boring revisit the old world."

Translating: What make WoW be WoW in the first place is not worth their time, what is really good is this abstract, not related, piece of…

  13. Absolutely agree with you.
I had a different comment I was typing up before I deleted it all. It was going to be about how disappointing the story and lore for this game has become, the usual stuff everyone's read a million times already.
I think I just need to accept that it's over. Time to move on and create my own stories.
