Blood Death Knight is one of my favorite tanking specs in the history of WoW. It was an absolute blast to play in Legion as m+ and brought a ton of necessary utility to mythic raiding. It’s been significantly less popular in Battle for Azeroth, but will it get some of it’s groove back in Shadowlands?
It seems like BDKs aren’t receiving a ton of new borrowed power in Shadowlands, though the covenant choices and legendaries both bring synergy to the core kit — it’s maybe not going to be enough to bring the spec back up to where it once was. I’ll be bringing my Blood Death Knight through mythic plus content regardless because the core gameplay is still quite fun.
Note on Necrolord as a covenant choice:
I mentioned this briefly in the video but really consider whether or not you should pick the necrolord covenant. The auto-grip arm goes between sort-of helpful to dragging in a mob that’s specifically out of melee range for reasons. I think the overall dislike of this choice is maaaaybe a little hyperbolically weighted towards being bad but we’re going to remember the times this ability fails us more than it helps us.
Note on Kyrian as a covenant choice:
This video was filmed about an hour before the last beta build. Blizz has since nerfed the Kyrian potion ability to handle harmful effects in Nathria — so it’s decidedly less clear which covenant is the best for raiding. I think NF/Ven/Kyrian are all good choices though!
Overall, if there were a few tweaks, I think BDK would be a great spec to main in all situations as a tank!

so torn between blood dk and guardian druid
Bro, this is the first video I've seen from you. I will definitely subscribe. Clean, honest, and informative. I started blood tanking during the 2nd half of BFA. I loved blood because I was able to solo tank mythic maut with my guild. I truly enjoyed blood. I'm worried blood is not going to be enough for shadowlands.
Only one suggestion. May need to show talent/ Legendary graphic icons. But excellent video!

Your concerns for BDK is the primary reason that you sold me so hard on Guardian druid. Also, BDK takes more finesse that Guardian and at the start of an expansion, where I'll be undergeared and just learning new fights, getting squished because I bit off more than I could chew in a quick period of time is less a concern with guardian over BDK. Gosh though BDK has an amazing class fantasy and in not super challenging content its so fun to just be a vampiric juggernaut rolling slow and steady through things having the whole dungeon be subjugated to your whims.
If not dk for mythic raids? What tanks you running for raids?

A good combo atm is the weapon enchant rune of sanguinatuon and deaths certainty (supposed to be for unholy) leggo pumps out death strike dmg.

Little tip, when you use the clips of you talking, maybe try to cut a little less. For me it creates some unnecessary "noise" in both the picture and flow of the information you are giving.

Bdk in legion was something, I remember leveling my first dk and geared it in lfr and mythics and immediately tanking heroic abt with my guild with barely normal abt ilvl and healing more than both our Mythic healers.
