God bless I was dreading reading the entire thing on my own LOL
100% agree on the community perception. People think Limit/Echo in raid and GG/Wunderbar are the way you are supposed to play, overlooking the fact that anything can succeed and those players play a different style of game that is only effective in the vacuum of their level. I remember getting denied for keys as a bear in 8.1/8.2 because I was a bear and for no other reason. The community needs to move past this idea that what the top 0.5% do is the gospel. I've been heartened to see those players emphasize the fact that play whatever you want is the right answer to what class to play.

"this is the cost of removing titanforging and corruption"
BUT WHY LOL
Those systems added power. More loot in chest added power. They don't work against each other at all
His point about the community perception misses one key point. Equally skilled players WILL be stratified based on how strong their classes are for the content, and this is significant since high end PvE content is a group activity, where if I'm making deliberately less than optimal choices that impacts the people I play with aswell, who have to play better to overcome my choice. For example, prot warrior wasn't just the best tank in 8.3 m+ because of high end strats like SoB boss cheese with conflict. It was the best because it did the most damage by far and was immortal in most m+ scenarios. This scaled down to most levels of play (assuming the class was played at a competent level). Your healer had to be better for the same key level playing with tanks other than warrior. Your dps had to do more damage. As a tank your choosing to play something other than warrior made it harder for everyone else. Now some level of this is unavoidable, something will always be better, but if we take for example the dominance of warlock as a ranged in raid, if I'm looking at a main for SL and I'm not looking at mage or warlock odds are for most of the tiers I'm going to be making the raid content harder for my guild, the people I like and want to be helpful to, than it would be if I were looking at these classes. It isn't about what can be done, it's about relative difficulty over time. If one dps is very frequently better than another wuthout much shift about what's at the top, then it punishes players who don't gravitate to the consistnekty better options.
Motto of wow these days "Imagine if you multispec'd ROFL"
Yeah sure his words are absolute **** it will be like the rip cord
Al classes are balanced its the players fault some dps do dubble dmg 🤪🤣
For once he had 1 – 2 points that I didn't flat out disagree with entirely, specifically regarding community perception of classes, but overall everytime Ion talks about the game I just can't pinpoint who the game in his head is for. I would be all for replacing him as game director with someone who had a more cohesive vision for the game that made more sense and was more in line with what I feel (again, my personal opinion) would be healthy and fun for the game.
If he DOES have a clear vision, bruh..communication. This isn't a new issue, and the "we realize that now and we have to do better" response is basically a meme at this point..
It's important to note some of the longer answers Ion gave in the group interview that I don't think were included in this summary. One that jumps out to me and is kind of counter to the "community perception" issue he hinted at in one of the answers is this.
=== Can players act in social ways vs purely optimized ways? ===
Honestly, that is the dilemma of the meta in modern internet-fueled multiplayer gaming. That's a problem that nobody has really cracked.
At the end of the day, even if it's players who are making these decisions for each other…if you're someone whose playing WoW and you're settling in after a day of work and you want to go run some Mythic dungeons, and you spend an hour getting declined over and over again, because of your spec or some choice that you made…yeah there's other players doing that but you're entirely correct and justified in blaming us, in blaming Blizzard and the developers for failing to provide a better experience for you.

I feel it's also important to note that this issue isn't as "modern" as Ion (a previous member of Elitist Jerks) makes it sound.

Tettles > Dratnos
Survival hunter and Feral Druids aren't the best 2 specs in the game but they are still are crazy strong and usefull?
Most players would invite them over Havoc Demon Hunters for M+?
The Survival Hunter and Feral community are just toxic elitist that can't Aoe stun because they don't believe in themselves?
Bm Hunters were often pressured to go Survival and BM for Pve?
I didn't know, Thanks Ion!
They could make purge remove one stack of bolstering or maybe that would be to OP. Body pulling a pack right before you kill one surely does suck ass.
