I recently did my worst features of each expansion, and wanted to follow up with something a little more positive. Today im covering what I think ended up being the best feature that every World of Warcraft expansion had.
There’s a LOT of history to go over here, so let me know what you would have picked below!
For me, these make up The BEST Feature Of EVERY WoW Expansion | World of Warcraft

Personally I think the entire talent tree rework in DF was better than Dragonriding.
(Maybe that's because I already had 'Dragonriding' previously a different MMO lol)
Vanilla: Leveling journey/Open world – TBC: Arena – WOTLK: Lore – Cata: Difficulty introduction in PvE – MoP: PvP as a whole, there has and never will be a better time for PvP than MoP. It had the most skill expression out of any expansion and I miss it every single day – Warlords: Challenge mode dungeons and their sets/weapon rewards – Legion: Idk, barely played and I hated artifact weapons – BFA: Didn't play, but G'huun looks cute – Shadowlands: The Sanctum and Castle Nathria sets looked very nice imo, everything else was garbage in that expansion, yes, everything. – DF: Dragonriding is fun, but I prefer the game without flying personally. TWW: Warbands.
Its sad that the first three vanilla, tbc and wrath were so impactful. Then anything from then the 'best feature' is just so trivial in comparison.
Example, best in vanilla is the leveling experience.. while you said the best in cata was…. Healing……… Wow……. It just shows how the game got gradually worse. And now instead of the best feature be an essential fetaure, its just some small side thing that doesn't even sometimes have much of an impact on the game, here and now.
Best features in classic wow.
Vanilla – leveling
Tbc – tier sets
Wrath – class design
Cata … Isn't classic.
There done.
Awakened raids were in shadowlands first, not really a DF feature
my case:
vanilla-world
tbc- blood elfs
wrath- lich king (friends)
cata – hard to tell what. re-exploring old world maybe
mop- pvp pvp and pvp (friends)
wod- hard to say what
legion – mage tower, weapons, mythic, suramar, zones (everything) The best one.
bfa – zones
shadowlands – nothing
dragonflight- nothing but better than shadowlands
Talking about leveling in vanilla with Zygor in the screen. SMH
The WoD/SoO feature should have been Flex raiding imo. Not being locked into strictly 10 or 25 and having the raid scale to match your group size is great.
Transmog is a big win for me. The warbands features are really great too.
Level one experience should be a product initiative for wow, optional of course, but fucking hell, blending classic and nuwow might actually make people play the game together again
Awakened raids were introduced in shadowlands 😂
I'd give Dual Spec for Wrath. At the time it didn't impact me too much, but as someone who's mained non-DPS for most of my time in WoW having the option to swap to DPS whenever I'm doing solo stuff has been huge.
And while the current system of swapping to any spec you want is even better, this was the first mention and deserves a shoutout.

I actually misses MoP, I hope in a year or so, that we Cata players now can be in MoP 😊
Leveling definitely wasn't the best in vanilla, what is bro yappin about. Saying 'if you make a new character you start at lvl 1' as if that doesn't happen in other expansions
Classic – Rank 14 grind
TBC – attunements
WOTLK – vehicle combat
Cata – LFR
MOP – Dailies
WOD – Garrisons
Legion – legendaries
BFA – Azerite
Shadowlands – lore/storytelling
Dragonflight – perfect expansion
TWW – Ara Kara sacbrood trinket
The best feature of vanilla is that it doesn't feel like it has "features". It's a world that you live in.
"Features" are what you got when they removed the requirement to feed your pet as a hunter. Now it's not a pet, it's merely a dps mechanic. A "feature". Likewise, to the world, and the lost soul of it. They kill Azeroth with "features".
Best thing from Cata is the healer Rework? Ever heard of transmog?
Legion artifact weapons???????? Ok i leave now
I think Mythic raiding is the worst feature ever added. Its good for the 5 people that care about the race to worlds first, but for the what 12 million other people it just messed up the game and created a nearly impossible to breach barrier to Completing your character.
Classic – The levelling
BC – Heroic Dungeons
Wotlk – Dungeonfinder (yes I liked that back when I 14)
Cata – The Raids
Mop – The introduction of flexible Raids
Wod – New Character Models (even tho some look worse in my opinion)
Legion – M+
BfA – Nothing really, worst expansion
Shadowlands – Overhaul of the leveling experience
Dragonflight – New Talent trees
War within – As of right now, Warbands
So the best feature of the Shadowlands expansion was that you could play other expansions instead of Shadowlands? 😂
Best feature of Wotlk was me being 14 when it came out
Have you ever played Wildstar?
I feel like transmogging from Cata should be mentioned. It opened up a whole new side of the endgame for casual players, that WoW hadn't seen before
My gripe with the warband character screen is that it from time to time automatically selects Aegwynn, which is a german server when creating a new character.
Arenas were my fav tbc addition
for me only good thing about shadowlands was revendreth and the raid there castle nathria i think was the name
Wotlk dual talents
For Mop is the monk class
Classic – the world
TBC – probably same
Wrath – death knights
Cata – leveling
MoP- vengeance (best thing ever added to tanking)
WoD – mythic raiding
Legion – M+
BFA – corruption
SL – leveling
DF – dragon riding
TWW – tbd
I agree with them all, but for shadowlands I would pick the creation catalyst. Being able to transform your gear from other sources into set pieces is awesome and I still can't believe that such a friendly idea came from the same period that brought us the maw
Vanilla: Everything
LK: Achievements and statistics
Cata: Transmog
Panda: Flex Raids
SoO introduced Mythic raiding, though I guess WoD had it from the start as a complete experience.
I think Chromie Time is kind of a mixed bag. For people who are brand new to WoW and are interested in the story, it's still a wild mishmash that makes absolutely no sense – AND you can't even use Chromie Time for your first character. As of now, you're forced to do Exile's Reach, and then forced directly into Dragonflight. With friends who have come to try out Dragonflight and were coming from GW2 and FF14, none of them stuck around because their story was nonsense.
SyncWeaver did a pretty good video about the new player experience a couple years ago, approached as someone invested in story-driven MMOs.
man I miss TBC and vanilla even more
Island Expeditions( and the AI they created for it) is probably my pick for BFA. That lead to Torghast (which would be fantastic if it wasn't mandatory) and to delves (which are fantastic so far)
