Season of Discovery is World of Warcraft’s second official seasonal server which aims to shake up the class meta from Vanilla by adding in tons of new spells, both from future expansion and totally unique additons alike.
Though it got off to a great start, the playerbase has fallen off over time – but just the other day Blizzard has finally made ALL runes and quality of life spellbooks available for purchase in each starter zone.
These are practically free and will give everyone a chance to check out how classes are designed to play in SoD without the hours of grinding for the runes.

  1. Some really big things coming for SoD, and I hope people give it a chance. As a PvP player the PvP is very different then Classic. Now Boomkins, Prot warriors and Shockadins are actually viable, and changes up the Rock-Paper-Scissors mechanic from Classic. Personally I feel like most of the whine related to PvP balance are from people that have a hard time adjusting from the Classic meta to SoD. But ofcourse there are classes that outperform, and I hope they get adjusted at some point.

  2. They could allow 80 raiders into a 20 man raid and the players would still want your logs, button rotation and CV. Honestly, I know most people in my guild stopped playing because it got so taken over and catered towards the 'wow is my life' crowd we just couldn't be bothered. We play on the HC realm quite often because even that is way more chill than the SoD crowd. We're quite happy chilling on the anniversary realms. I don't think as many will return as you think, the runes could be fun but the driving factor behind leaving SOD for a lot of people was just the core player base.

  3. That's nice and all, but is smite priest finally a thing? No? Alright, have fun.

More seriously, I don't like this change. Getting the runes was the fun part… Runes locked behind a rep grind aside.
I get that the elite quests are hard to complete since people have moved on from that content for a long time, but instead of giving the runes for free why not… Make the mobs normal ones when the phase rolls over instead? Or for those that have you summon an elite to kill, tune it to be a tough solo fight instead of a trivial group one.
Same for the Arcane Barrage example. Instead of having to get 40 books, why not make it 10? Or even 8? Just pick the 8 best locations for those books and you keep the essence of the quest while trimming the fat by a lot.

To me it seems like they went with the solution that requires the least amount of efforts since everyone involved (players included) simply don't care.

  4. "Complain about shaman" but palladins are still bull.
Yea, let's give a class :invulnerable bubble that you can kill through, healing inside of bubble, mid combat mount to get away, the 'ret bomb' one shot, 2 instant stuns they abuse…
But yea, shamans are the issue. Okay 👍 😂

  5. I enjoyed all the class quests they added and had fun with the early raids. The whole incursion thing put me of. Also they added way too many abilties. Not only did it take the charm of simplicity that classic has it also felt way too close to retail in terms of design. At least for my taste. Im personally more on the "add maybe 1 or 2 spells and fix scaling on badly designed spells" side of things. Similar how turtle wow does it minues their new talents trees.

  6. Two friends and I started fresh in SOD the other night. We rolled pally priest and hunter, played for like 6.5 or 7 hours, got to 22 and three manned Deadmines. We started the dungeon at 19. It was a blast. Even if you don't decide to stick around and keep playing, it would be a fun thing to just do with a buddy or group for a night. One of those same friends and I played again Thursday, and we two manned Ragefire Chasm at like 16 as a double shaman. He barely off healed me while I tanked, and he just blasted stuff down with lava bursts and overload procs. 10/10 Would recommend at least for a short term thing. If you do have some friends or can find a guild willing to go for the long haul, I bet it would also be super fun.

  7. they should have made rep acc bound like farming ZG rep on multiple chars sucked hard.
Pvp is a joke to many classes have so much burst and control from the runes and blizzard was/is to lazy to balance completly broken things like hunters permA range slowtrap
overall i had a fun time playing sod but fresh killed the guild and with irl workload during december i dont have the time or energy to find a new one

  8. I did phase 1 and 2, and the SOD dev team is just terrible. Terrible grinding, terrible itemization, terrible balance. They are fantastic at pissing off or driving off the player base – it's practically a miracle how fast they can get rid of player interest.

HUNDREDS of hours farming runes, recipes or gold to buy recipes which were made trivial within days with an update.

They violated John Staat's "respect the player's time" with this whole project, and they lost their customers. ZERO interest in Classic, Classic reboot, Anniversary, or Classic+ from this company because of this. Aggrend just flails around and the team is just tone-deaf and repeatedly makes things too costly, require too much time, rep or whatever, and then immediately invalidates the effort of the people who DID the content regardless by making that shit one copper. It's amateur hour, and I'm not paying for it.

  9. The purchaseable world buffs are all available in IF/Org. They are expensive (50 commendations is 100 runecloth, which costs around 10g/stack atm). On the flipside, you can farm runecloth and sell it for around 10g/stack 😂
The WB items cant be booned, but are raid-wide when used. This oddly enough makes raids go much faster, as you end up having these buffs active for trash as well.

  10. "i can just go around and one shot things its really fun" Its also a game for mobile phones that auto plays, im sure thats also really fun as you dont like challenges…….. like sure i can see the appeal in using cheats in a game and go wild for alittle, but it usually dont take more than a week before you get tierd of it as its no challenge and you tried most things, reason many like vanilla is because shit isnt free and you got to work for it, also its why sod is dead while classic vanilla is flooded.

You got the cata/retail mentality, most vanilla players dont wich is also why most left sod as it got to much bs that made it to simular to cata +++

  11. For me … I don't understand how so many people left SoD. I do get the Runes for Twins thing and that it's sad how they managed so far to not bring any new content in SoD. But I still really really like the more modern gameplay and the nostalgic raids, that you can clear in 1hr or less.

  12. Sod honestly has been banging since 60. The incursion thing was rough, but ST was a good raid with lots of fun bosses(I still say the slime boss is the best boss). The new optional mechanics for AQ are pretty cool. The constant class balance changes to keep all specs at least playable is great.
