I share my thoughts on Mythic+ leavers in World of Warcraft after a slightly insane start to Season 4 Dragonflight as well as my ideas on solving the problem. Please feel free to share your own ideas and thoughts in the comments on what Blizzard could do to make it better!

Well, quick fix. List your key with "weekly no leaver" if you time it good and if you cant at least ppl who signed up for it will probably stay to finish the key.
make timer a different mythic plus mode for those who want to push rio scores. keep gearing with increasing difficulty but without timer. timer is the biggest issue there and largest cause of toxicity and stress in the group
I think they should implement a system like overwatch has, where you can give your teammates a thumbs up or thumbs down at the end of the dungeon.
If you have good rep you get a sign next to your name in the group finder that lets the leader know you have a good reputation.
If you have a bad rep it shows that as well. It should encourage people to try to finish and be nicer.
The punishment of reducing your key its the biggest shit ever.
For 2-10 keys i think they should be "muted" for 30 minutes so they can leave but they wont be able to join or create another group for 30 minutes. I think leave on a +11-12-13-14 its ok because you look more for io not gearing.
If I’m in a +6 and 2/3 dps are sub 70k dps I’m absolutely leaving
I agree with your bad idea of a leaver system for 2-10 keys, leave higher key pushers like me out of these. People in actual keys say gg and everyone knows when a run is dead, leavers happen in your 20 minute 7 NO with 11 deaths stuck on 2nd boss
Everyone saying 'if you suck im leaving' 'i dont want to waste my time with bad players' 100% are like 2k rated and have a couple of portals kek. From someone thats currently pushing 17-18's i agree. Add a voting system if the key is going badly, if accepted by at least 4 players then leave the key without having it deplete so you can reform group if neccesary. Punish people that leave fully without a warning. Literally 1h penalty and increases the more ofenses you have per week.
Someone said this comment below but a reputation system would help. At the end of each week if you have a good rep with all your pug groups maybe your vault comes with more rewards?
Rainbow six siege just added this reputation system with awards and it’s definitely taken effect on weirdos in the game.
I don’t care how long it is before someone leaves. Sounds like you’re having groups with major performances issues and people don’t want to deal with dead weight. Also anything past a 10 it’s all about the timer. Sometimes it’s just not worth it to try and stick it out with people who have no idea what’s going on. This is such a bad take. You want to hold people hostage to your under performance
Stop sucking, if you can't handle a key level don't sign up do it. Drop your key to what you can handle. Be careful who you fill your key with as well.
like, what keys are you doing? 7-9? 10? as a higher end player i think theres also a big point of picking the right ppl. when i que for 7-10s i get insta invited as a 3.1k tank. but i am only there to get my 1 peace that i am still missing for BIS gear. then i expect ppl to just have a free fast key. If you invite me to boost you i am going to leave if it takes to much time or you fail on easy stuff that can be avoided by learning about the dungeons. Like do I wanna spend my time teaching ppl? no. i want my neck from a 7 BH just to go and do the thing I want to do. PUSH KEYS Dont invite me to boost you.
Tbh I can understand your take on this howeever :
– Due to recent m+ squish there is a lot of "Sunday players" that were doing fine at 0-10 before and want to do the same this season where in reality they are signing for old 12+ at minimum
– Voting while joining a premade party can make you a hostage of this premade since they always have a majority.
– People need to invite people of similiar skill level or expectation. You dont invite a 3k Rio guy to a +2 key and expect him to wait till you learn how to kick and play the game (well I do stay but some people dont have the patience and I dont blame them ) .They gonna leave because they can do 2-3 keys in the time this one is done. They join the key because they want fast crests or weekly done and not to wipe on HOI Frog for a 3th time because tank dont know enrage mechanic
I did around +-40 dungeons this season and I only had 1 leaver. And I dont even have problem with that because u cant have dps learning RLP boss mechanics on +8.
I don't have opinion on 30 Min Ban Timer. They will never implement it account wide and people can just switch characters and do something else.
It seems to me you just had like extermly bad luck with pugging this season 🙁
I feel like people are fed up with other people not taking their time to learn stuff beforehand and wasting their time. Its the same while pugging Heroic raids. You can either stay in a group that wipes on larodar 5 times or join one that blasts everything with fyrakk without a single wipe.
It's all about how much you value your time. There are always going to some ragequit crybabies but thats MMO, with so many people you gonna get hit with that bullet few times
Sometimes people are not even trying. Wasting every br on a dps in one fight just for him staying alive for only 40 secs total is not my Cup of tea. I am casual Tank. I leave everytime someone trashtalks.
if you leave within the timer=3days of not being able to enter dungeons on your account
was trying HOI +9 for rating yesterday. ran it 4 times finally got the second to last boss and mage dps died and just left. made no sense. we were about to time. if not off by a few seconds. spent fucking 35 minutes on top of the other attempts for nothing. usually i don't get so mad but i was so mad i had to go beat my meat -lil bones
Brother this might fly for casual players but this is horrific for anyone that pushes keys and puts time and effort into the game. Some people go into keys just to time it and not caring about the gear… so when this isn’t met they leave to keep trying. All your doing is giving us a league of legends system where people can hold you hostage until the dungeon is complete because you want gear. People boost friends in high keys for weekly vaults so they have more incentive to trap you in the dungeon after you know you can’t time the key and have to boost people to get the key. It’s going to make people more toxic because they can leave now if you kidnap people in keys toxicity of keys go insanely high.
Like it’s everyone’s fault the key didn’t time so not one person is to blame for wasting time if they leave it’s everyone’s fault. If you think a key isn’t timed because of one singular person and this one person wasted time then you don’t have the mindset for keys.
Lastly if your in these situations your key is already bricked so to brick someone else’s because you couldn’t force them in a key to give you a loot piñata is stupid. Everyone’s name is on the key when it goes into raider io and blizzard. The punishment people get for leaving is that they wasted time in a group that couldn’t do the key so you go on to the next group. Just blacklist them and never talk to them again.
The problem with a voting system is people will just hold the group hostage if the vote doesn't go their way. The best solution to fix player behavior in video games is positive reinforcement not negative reinforcement. Make finishing keys matter more than just a few flightstones and a piece of gear nobody will care about in a week. Create some kind of currency for finishing keys that you could use to upgrade your own key or something.
If you really want to go the negative reinforcement way, using social shaming is an effective way to go about it. Make it so there's something showing you left a key recently when applying for other keys.
I just want to say that i love all the ideas and comments you all share! Some of you seem to think my motivation for running keys is A) getting loot B) getting rating C) getting carried. Although i like the idea of getting carried and i dont mind the loot as a bi-product my personal motivation of running keys is just doing the hardest content my current skill can handle, or slightly above, so that i can learn and become even better at the game. My frustration lies in the leavers making this hard due to the downgrading of keys and general mentality of giving up when things get hard. I agree with a lot of you that just removing the "punishment" for the key holder would be a really good improvement!
A couple questions: When you are listing your keys, do you list the goal as completion, timing, or standard? I think if you set the key to standard, you get what you get, if you set it to timing, you can expect people to leave if they feel the key won't be timed, and if you set it to completion, I think you can definitely be mad at people leaving randomly.
What lvl keys are you doing? I haven't had a problem with leavers at all this season. I run 10's at max, probably mostly 7-9 (NA region as well).
I think with the charge system, people will leave quicker, as it's easy to think "oh they have 3 charges, so I can just leave and they can just complete it with another charge".
The WoW Made Easy discord has been good for me finding groups where people definitely don't randomly leave btw for what it's worth.
Yesterday, I did an hour and 29 minutes m+2 dungeon, I did not leave because my Hunter really needed to get the weekly quest done; and forming groups as a dps is impossible, I had to explain every mechanic, and we started
Progressing after time ended and we could hero/lust on bosses, my Hunter was 35% of the teams damage… we had to kill the last boss without a Healer!!! And let me tell you this… on my Healer I’ll had left that damn key after wiping 3 times and just join another group with, I could have done 2 keys on time easily with my healer and without the mental distress that that m2 was
30min/2h/10h deserter for subsequent leaving, not able to use tool at all in that time, with the timer only progressing when being logged ind on that character.
3/5 majority vote to stop the key prematurely.
regarding keylevel, my solution would be: you do a specific dungeon on a specific key lvl, you unlock the next lvl in that dungeon for the rest of the season, so you dont need a key, but can just open a group and do your dungeon lvl with other ppl who managed to get to the same dungeon lvl, while also being able to chose a lower lvl whenever you want to. that way you van ensure that ppl joining your key at least timed the dungeon you are attempting at a close lvl to what you are doing, and you would get rid of the frustrating key bricking situation.
I think a good way to prevent leavers is if they get a lfg ban for like 30 mins maybe more if they leave they a group while timer is running, but in order to insure groups that agree to give up on the key and dont get the disterter blizz would have to ad a vite system that onky the key owner can initate that will stop the timer and the key if 4/5 votes agree
And maybe somthing where theres like a insurence for the owners keys if the person leaves with more 10 mins more or less left in the key
We need a new stat next to the ones saying how many keys completed, it should say how many keys left before completion. Just make it a stat the higher that stat the fewer times we know to invite them.
Too many factors
Should we be forced to check everyone's gear before the key starts?
I've left keys this season after we fail multiple pulls. Then i check and the 4 man group snuck their 475 dps friend into a 9BH
Am i the bad guy for leaving?
There are far too many factors to ever punish this stuff
I like your ideas!
I think they should remove depleting. If you fail your key, it just stays the same level. The punishment for failing a run is that you don't get the points, your key falling to a level that doesn't challenge you is just lame and feels really bad.
Edit: I wrote my comment before you started talking about this, completely agree with you.
The key system should be removed, the dungeon should save your progress and you can fail as much as you want the level (key) you're at.
The level (key) changes automatically with the player that launches the dungeon.
– > Or even better let us choose the level (key) we want to run with a range of 1-3lvl from the best (key) level you've done then remove the restriction once you hit all keys at the level 20.
I think there needs to be something in for the guys who leave after one wipe. The game can recognise guild groups so it should be able to recognise pugs. At least allow one wipe and if anyone insta quits then id say a key refund is the best outcome. I think crests should just be part of the loot and be rewarded at full reward regardless on timer. I think rewarding the group better on a failed key so their time is worth it to hang around is better than punishing the first to leave. You also get those toxic groups where 4 people are beating on the one guy with less experience and he ends up leaving because he's getting yelled at. I remember messing up in MoP in one of the SM wings and I got kicked, then got left with the deserter debuff. All because it was my first run
started playing wow around a year ago, leveled a bunch of characters and spent time figuring out what classes i liked etc. collected trans mogs and played a bunch of BGs but never got into M+ because of how often i hear people voicing their complaints about how poor the system is.
id like to try it soon and i hope they fix it so people are held accountable for their shitty behavior.
The ideas are good, but this will not prevent leavers from destroying the key.
"If you leave, your key tanks the hit" -> just afk for 20-30 min at the start of the dung and do something else
"If you leave, deserter buff" -> again, just afk at this point bc if you leave you will face this punishment either way.
The vote system although is a GREAT idea! Just like in professional MOBA's.
I also believe that keys should not deplete at all. We have that panda in Valdrakken that lowers keys, just let her be in the dung and lower it yourself if you need to. If keys don't break, people are also more willing to invite people on their skill level and not get boosted. I'm 2800 rio right now and people don't invite me to do 10's, because of the fear of breaking keys.
M+ needs to be more rewarding and less punishing when it comes to group making in general.
No we dont have to do anything about leavers , because its not a que sistem that gets you in with randoms, you chose who you bring to the party, making punishments for leaving well creat inven more toxic grups because you will be forced to stay on bricked keys and lose alot more time.
i love your sparkly robe
This is the DPS problem, healers and tanks have instant queue 😊 as Ret pally I know the pain 😢
Love the bricking the leavers key, but I would change it to be more punishing. It puts their key back to a +2. So if they have a +10 banked and are running someone else's key and they rage quit/leave their +10 goes to a +2 lol.
