  1. WoW at least had dungeon scaling when I tried it, so dungeons would always be somewhat relevant as long as you're leveling. By comparison, FF14 dungeons are more of a one and done since they can never offer anything relevant outside of leveling. The gear is worth it if you were just starting to level up, but other than that, there's really nothing FF14 dungeons have to offer. Level cap uncapped tomestones will always offer better gear that anything dungeons can offer. Uncapped raids also offer better gear than anything dungeons can offer (as well as farm for a weapon, which you cannot do in dungeons), so the FF14 dungeons immediately lose a lot of their appeal once you can gear up for the previous raid and farm that instead.

  2. A teacher once told me don’t present a problem without a solution in mind.

That is what I often see unfortunately when we talk about old content for these video games. A lot of problems brought up but no solution to it. That being said however, even when people do come up with solutions, it is often ignored.

This is where things start to get annoying when we look at things like old content however. In the case of the latest relic grind, everyone will simply pick the easiest route, then complain they’ve nothing to do now :/

  3. It feels so good leveling in WoW!

FFXIV really needs to stop making all story content mandatory to catch up with friends if they want to get more new players. Requiring players to pay for the game, level skip, AND story skip in order to catch up in a meaningful time is TERRIBLE for the game.

WoW saw this and fixed an issue that wasn't even close to as bad as FFXIVs.

Also I really like having a channel with an unbiased opinion of both games while also having played both games like I have.

I just want competition so both games can be better.

  4. I remember my first WoW Raid. I leveled up to 58 and went straight to Outland. I leveled up to 68 and went straight to Northrend. I had made it to 78 or 79 and joined a Sunwell Pug. We wiped on the first trash pull multiple times and everyone left.

I remember my first FFXIV Raid. While I was doing post-ARR I accidentally started the Crystal Tower questline. I got to Labyrinth and saw I could queue. I asked my FC if it was worth trying it thinking that people wouldn't actually queue for it. They assured me I would be fine. A few minutes later I was in the raid and a short time after that I was done.

I would give the nod to FFXIV on this point.

  5. I still feel like roulettes do ensure that some content can always find volunteers. It's just harder with Alliance Raids, since that's a TON of people to get, and also … Deep Dungeons are a bit of a problem, because despite the low number of people required to start, it is not part of any roulette, as its tied to the whole Aetherpool Gear system and requires save-file-like things

  6. From what I can tell and maybe you can correct me you clearly never leveled from 1-110 in BFA prior to the current level squish. Blizzard was making bank on level skips because of how bad it was and with ff14 it was never like that for me. I am not some OG vet of 14 as I played the Beta then quickly threw the Collectors Edition 1.0 box into my shed until I heard Shadowbringers was out. When I went through the zones I saw people and in some zones I saw a hell of a lot of people. In WoW doing a leveling dungeon as anything other then a healer or tank was a no go and even then queue times were upwards for of 20+ minutes.

One major mistake that I keep seeing WoW players make is equating one game that is is on Patch 9.0 with a game that is on 5.0…really 4.0 if you just get rid of 1.0. FF14 has 3 expansions and by my count WoW has 8. Telling FF14 devs to compress the story because WoW did it or there story goes quick so you should also is silly because as of literally 4 months ago you were GUARANTEED buying a level skip in WoW.

FF14 has a crafting system that heavily incentives using materials from prior expansions to make money in the current expansion. In BFA all of the materials you would need were from the current expansion more then likely. The way you level crafting and also way that you make some recipes at end game require materials across all of the expansions in FF14 keeping prices high compared to any equivalency you would see in WoW atleast the last time I played. I would be willing to bet that if I mined Saronite in Northrend then Blacksmithed out of some Wrath gear there is a slim chance in hell it would sell compared to me doing an equivalent for Heavensward gear via Armorsmith.

It was kind of funny because I remember at the time Ghostcrawler saying they would never do a transmog system but when Rift came out they literally ended up copying and pasting that system that LITERALLY added an entire new end game feature to WoW. The system in WoW is so good for collectors I would not mind them throwing out the entire Glamour system and copying it.

  7. It is a sad truth of MMO and it isn't easy to fix. If you try to make old content relevance sometime it can be too good and people won't go to new zone.

Guild Wars 2 did that before first expansion by gave you the same amount of exp no matter zone you play. Obviously, the best zone for leveling to max was the starting zone by joining champion zerg run so, they nerfed it.

Yet still people don't venture far into high level zone so, they removed trait and skill trainers and made it unlockable by venture far and do all content but, it wasn't received well becuase it so much inconvenience for new players.

By the time they released their first expansion they kinda said "We give up" by made all skill and trait accessible immediately and introduced mastery system which need experience point from expansion area to level up that expansion mastery.

    How can you fix this?
If you make all content equally good, no one want play new content.

If you make new content better than old content, no one want to go back.

If you make old content mandatory, you will get FFXIV and people will complain about "this game forced me to play old content".

  8. While keeping old content relevant isn't FFXIV's strong suit, I do like that they keep everything relevant in the story. The newest expansion will often take you back to older zones for the story, and old storylines will be continued or expanded upon. They don't forget about the plight of the last expansion because while a major issue might be resolved, the characters still have problems and are moving on with the story, rather than being left behind. Obviously, not every single thread gets updated all at once, and some things definitely do get left behind, but I like that 2 expansions later, Ishgard is still a major focus, that I'm at least going through Stormblood zones to get to Bozja, that Ga Bu, all these years later, has not been forgotten.

  9. Imo. When comparing two games alike. You should only compare expac to expac. Vanilla to vanilla. No addons because thats community creating them.

And they do exist on ffxiv there is dps meters people use them. Abd if you are a dickbag about it then action is taken. FF takes their nontoxicity in a very strong way. And they will enforce the rules.

Im not sayingthere isnt toxic people or moments. But i havent been contacted by a GM in wow in many years when i come across some asshat thats haulting progression. Or telling people how to do fights in a way that will literally wipe the group and hault progression.

Meanwhile i came across 4 people in Alexander Eyes of the creator who were telling mechanics incorrectly then kicked me for trying to explain why it was incorrect and what happens when its done incorrectly that will lead to the boss getting stronger. And i was contacted by a GM in under 5 minutes.

They strive to rid toxicity from the game or keep it down to a managable level. Yes some of our community are trashy and toxic. They will always be groups of elitists and such in all games. But thats why you have a quick responce team to look into it.

Not trying to be a dick or anything im not the best at wordings so i apologise.

And lastly. I honestly didnt know there was a hard time for bew players in FFXIV. I recently swapped servers to Faerie on Aether. Started completely over and. Had low Que times for progressing through MSQ(this was febuary of 2020) i have another character im leveling up so my buddy can marry it to get the rewards. I havent put much time into it but its about 38 Granted that one is a Tank where this character started out as a Lancer.

I guess i kinda got hella lucky on my account my dps ques are mostly 10 minutes and under.

Pretty sure things will start dying down now till 5.5 ( or 5.45 cant remember )

  10. Yeah most of ppl run 14 things just for loot. I run most of my missions to help someone (usually asking for help in cities or of) because I really don’t care in loots that don’t add anything useful. Like gear. I don’t run things for mounts or glams which restrict even more my content…. whe I’m not in the mood to help I don’t even log into the game.
Chris another thing idk if you have the info…. but I open this video with 8 ads mark and I was about to skip (because of the number of ads) when my wife aggro’ed me (lol)…. then I realize none of the ads played.

  11. Old content is one thing; new content that attracts players to old zones is another. A couple of days ago I queued up for Ramuh hard mode with an alt, the que popped, and we completed pretty quickly. By the time I could get to the end of the very brief trial-ending scene, the entire party had gone–I never even got a chance to even give a commendation. These veteran players did the trial, but only in a very minimal way. Is that really "doing" old content?
Making new content that takes place in old zones–zones where new players are by default–is another thing. Drawing veteran players to old zones means new and veteran players are in the same place at the same time for a while in a way that may encourage engagement with each other. Running an old dungeon or trial and then bolting as soon as it completes does not encourage engagement.

  12. I have to wonder if you've ever played Final Fantasy sometimes with your arguments. Dungeon Experience is roughly 10 to 100 times more XP, gear that can help them level faster that can also be traded in for items to sell, so anyone leveling alts would be silly not going into dungeons to level. If you had been paying attention to the story in Shadowbringers, while we're adventuring in the first, cutscenes take us back to the original world, where things are still going poorly and we'll eventually have to come back to deal with it once we save our friends. so yes, We're in the First from Expansion, to halfway through patch content. As of patch 5.4 we're Already back in the original world. There's some stuff still in the First to do and deal with, but we're back in the old areas again.

The Issue with not getting "Legendaries" and not being best iLv without either doing super high end content or the Super long haul is also not the best informed statement. If you don't have time to do the high end or the grind path, You don't need to. even if you only play an hour a night, you can get the ilv needed to run all the content released. It's almost a fallacy to say you personally don't do Best in Slot anymore, but focus on how this is apparently a deal breaker. When that hour-a-day content I said, you can easily cap the reward currency per week, and reach the same ilv number as the people doing best in slot. It's not that difficult to do.

And Something I do want to say, it really detracts from any argument against Final Fantasy, when you upsell just how much Add-ons help WoW. It's starting to sound like the Bethesda Mindset, where We don't hold the Developer accountable for providing what we need, and instead will rely on Mods (Addons are modifications to the base game experience, it still counts as a mod).

The thing I want to know most about, is just how long do you expect Queues for older content to be done in? As a DPS, on a fresh Alt (not one I already built up) got through the ARR story without skipping any cutscenes in 2 days time, including the infamous patch cycle. The longest I had to wait for a queue was 10 minutes, average being 6 minutes. During that time I could complete other quests for side content, I crafted, and did what else I wanted to, to make use of the extra time. As it stands, before starting Heavensward on this alt, I have 4 classes at lv50 with the main class at 55. The real major reason you can just wander off and do you own thing, is because in Final Fantasy, you don't have to sit at the dungeon to run it. You can queue from anywhere, and use your time as you see fit.

  13. I believe what happens to content after an expansion ends really defines whether a game is well designed and built on solid bases or rather just a patchwork of content that will sooner or later fall like a house of cards.
P.S. I was already "complaining" about the above many years ago, when WoW's TBC was released and all of a sudden previous content (and efforts put into it) became essentially pointless.
