The question ‘What’s inside of Azeroth” has popped up a couple of times now, especially since we got some new ingame books and the Blizzcon anouncements. Time to sit down and speculate a bit, a good excuse to talk about the origin stories we have for the Warcraft Universe… I hope you’ll enjoy ^_^

Inside Azeroth is your money every month! 😂
a new titan being born. what if titans use planets to hatch a new titan?
damn, i thought w were just fighting dragons
Blizzard is inside Azeroth, because they keep screwing World of Warcraft. XD
The Old One comes to unmake all reality. The First shall fall & be punished for locking it away. All shall be returned to how it was before The First appeared bringing forth Life, Death, Order, Void, Light & Fel. Filling the vast emptiness of existence. Making everything so loud. The Old One shall have it's silence once again.
The Old One will devour all. A universe divided cannot stand against what comes.
The Void see all possibilities. The Void know.
This makes me wonder, what if the first Titans from ordus, where led by aman thul in a campain of conquest for the reality, and found other world souls and claimed for his faction. For example, sargeras could be a Titan from disorder, turned into the order by aman-thul, which makes sense when we try to analyse sargeras reasons to guide the burning legión. PDA: love this videos, My favorite wow youtuber. Greetings from Colombia 😁🙏🏻😍
It would not surprise me if Metzen retcons the Shadowlands lore in regards to the eternal ones or how they are created in order to get the story consistent again from what Danuser did.
i get a mentalbreakdown from this shadowlands stuff
are void lords also enemies of the light.
But in contrast to my other comment…… if they had consistent writers that genuinely tried to match lore to what made me like the warcraft universe in the first place; what would I like to see inside Azeroth? Well, maybe something like the below:
I want the World Soul inside Azeroth to be a genuine world soul, not anything from any other cosmic force, just a world soul like all the titans of the pantheon used to be before they were titans. And if all the other cosmic forces want to steal her power and make her be stuck doing only what they want…….then I think it should have been Cosmic Team Life (whoever that is) that got there first. They would have arrived and started trying to cause her to make life; they could have made the trolls and yaungol and protodrakes and various large beasts and monsters in the original sense of monster.
Then maybe there was a large crystalline spaceship type object devised and inhabited by Cosmic Team Void traveling through the empty spaces of the great dark beyond. I think this makes sense given the hint by one of the trinkets in DF that there was an orbiting object named "An'shuul the Cosmic Wanderer" out there in space somewhere. But backtrack to many thousands of years ago and maybe such a cosmic wanderer object stumbles upon the existence of Azeroth and then maybe accidentally starts burning up in the atmosphere of the planet as it falls….and consequently fragments of the crystal object maybe fall down in different places around Azeroth, piercing through the upper surface and coming to rest underground. These void crystal fragments would then become aware of the existence both of life on the world and also the world soul inside; and they would want to control it also. So they would start corrupting the lifeforms and the monsters, gradually turning them into the Old Gods; and some of that leftover flesh turned into N'Raqi faceless ones, and also Aqir bug hiveminds.
But then the Titans arrive, and they see those old gods trying to turn the world soul into a destructive force….and they put a stop to it. They imprison the old gods and try to keep the world soul protected until it can develop more and make its own decisions eventually. The Titans figure that if they were all world souls, and they decided to become titans…then Azeroth would probably want the same in time. But the Titans never realized that cosmic team Life was also trying to take control of her before the void. They don't notice when cosmic team Life turns the trolls into elves and the protodrakes into dragons and the yaungol into tauren, etc. At this point, I think something different happens……where maybe somebody from Cosmic Team Light contacts the Titans and wants to make a bargain with them. Maybe those on team Light do not insist upon having total control over the world soul, but at the very least they don't want void to have it. So they would cooperate with Titans to find some kind of balance as long as the Titans stop those void crystals from getting it. As such, maybe some of those void crystal fragments from the fallen spaceship also get imprisoned, with a building or facility built over the top of them and maybe even surrounding them underground. The Titans could use their technology and their magic to cleanse the void crystals and turn them into Holy Light forms…..at which point each of those facilities built around them have access to those Holy Light energies as weapons to use in the case of emergency. These facilities could be Uldum and Ulduar and Uldir and Uldorus and Uldaman and maybe more. The technology of Reorigination could literally just be Holy Light power to turn stuff into energy and then that energy back into stuff that isn't corrupted.
But maybe the Titans did not find every single void crystal fragment; and one of those was way down south and far to the west compared to kalimdor……thus the giant crystal underneath Khaz'Algar in Hallowfall….which they did not manage to build any facility around. But with the others turning to Light, that remaining crystal could be influenced to fluctuate both Light and Void. And now maybe Xal'atath knows it is there, and she wants to turn it permanently void. So she'll trick the Nerubians into gathering old god blood down there so she can slather it onto the crystal. And maybe……. Xal'atath succeeds at the end of War Within, she makes one fragment fully void, and they contact the void lords to take action here on Azeroth. That would lead to the Midnight expansion.
And maybe……the way that we stop our destruction in the Midnight expansion is to perhaps take all those Holy Light crystal fragments out of Uldir/Ulduar/Uldum/Uldorus/etc and reassemble them together into a kind of super Light naaru, but more powerful than a naaru….and it zaps Dimensius or whoever….. to stop their void invasion.
I'm actually starting to wonder if Titans really are born from world souls or if that is just more Titan propaganda at this point. Every cosmic force in the universe focuses in on Azeroth and even if world souls are rare, by sheer odds with how large the universe is that someone else could take the heat for a change. By saying they are born from world souls the Titans are basically trying to stake a claim on Azeroth saying that their way is the right way for her due to kinshipo and surely every other possible magical source for her must be some sick deviation.
Everyone and I mean EVERYONE should listen to A Thousand Years of War. It's really helped me understand a lot about the mythos going on in WoW right now. I love it!
The firsts ones were thought and creation they were destyed by beings of oblivion and nothingness. The cosmic forces want azerotg to survive
I think there is a good chance that if all the Titans are born from World Souls, then they are all former First Ones. The Heart of Azeroth activating the First Ones' waystone is a big hint that I think most people are just ignoring because Shadowlands was a mess.
That's not to say Azeroth as we know her is a First One. More like a descendant. I think World Souls are what remain of the First Ones. They gave up their power to order the universe, and the remainder became world souls to nurture reality.
Another big clue for this is Elune and Eonar. It stands to reason that certain first ones were in charge of certain domains. It doesn't make sense that they did them all at once, since then there wouldn't be a need for six Zereths. I posit that Eonar is a Titan attuned to Life because her world soul counterpart ordered the Life Domain. Argus would've ordered Death as the Death Titan. Sargeras could've ordered Chaos (as much as it can be ordered), to explain why he specifically was so quick to fall to Chaos. But how does Elune play into this? She's most-likely a member of the Life Pantheon, the Winter Queen's opposite. The mythology of the Tauren speak of Musha (Elune) being created by Azeroth, which would point to Azeroth being another member of the group charged with ordering Life. Elune and Eonar are very close, with Eonar's Pillar of Creation being the Tear of Elune. It's possible that Elune recognizes Eonar as a former creator, while Eonar looks up to Elune as a paragon of Life because she doesn't know her past life, just that she really likes Life.
Some of the Titans might not even be born from world souls. I would guess a few are just like the Death Pantheon, created to rule over Order by the First Ones themselves. But they could've been the first to discover what can be done with world souls, even if they don't know fully what they are, and how to leave the plane they are in charge of. It's why they seem to have the upper hand over the other five forces, and why so far only the Titans seem to have been successful. The First Ones already were tipped a bit toward Order, it would make sense that it's easier to fill a world soul with Order magic instead of another force. This would give the Titans plenty of time to either destroy the worlds that they were about to lose, or "fix" the ones they found in time if they didn't get there first.
Vote #1 Nobbel for loremaster
<3
Hope they do justice to the story with the next expansion. To many plots points in wow just don't have a explanation or make sense.
I wonder what the Azeroth Titan would look like during this 6 to 8 years of the Warcraft Saga?
I struggle a bit with the cosmology chart. because Light and order don't seem too contradicting for example and the elements were always said to be azeroth specific subplanes. every opposite for it self makes sense light vs dakr order vs chaos death vs life. but apart from that I find it hard to believe them as equals
That's the impression I've had since Legion. I don't follow the lore super closely, but its always felt like the Titans and the Void Lords were competing over what Azeroth would become, rather than it just being a Titan. I don't know when exactly I formed this opinion tbh, I said legion earlier but it could have been later or even earlier, but thats the vibe I've had.
The way I see it, we currently have 3 expos on the table, which may take about 3-4 years or more to resolve. I see this as Blizzard buying time to wrap up Azeroth's story. Afterwards I see us leaving the world and arriving on a new one (aka Heroes of Might and Magic 3 ending) and starting all over again in … World of Warcraft 2!
I think that this is the more sensible theory. The worldsouls would be titans, as we have allways been told, but titans would be much more that we knew. The pantheon would then be order titans, but argus would be a death titan and sargeras would have become a disorder titan. Elune could be a life titan, and the voidlords void titans. Eonar could be a order titan that, before beeing infused with order, was infused with a lot of life, akin to azeroth with void before the arribal of the pantheon.
Imo it makes sense that Azeroth is a First One , not only is her power higher and coveted by all the cosmic forces , she is also connected to creation like the First Ones and Zoval needed to go Xerath Mortis a domain where the First Ones originally created everything the Shadow Lands, the same goes for Argus he is different from all other titans and even in death is slow was sent to SL but none of the other titans were sent there when they were defeated, plus Azeroth is creation and Argus is the Unmaker another thing connected to balance.
Wifey always says: "Put it in my Aszeroth." Dunno what she means
That dust and cloud around Azeroth planet I always wondered how did Sargeras moved into our atmosphere. we were fighting on Argus during that time but surely other denizens of azeroth should have found it suspicious. how did that happen? when did that happen? In the war of the ancients, Sargeras could not bring his whole self to azeroth through well of eternity so he transfered his spirit to an avatar meaning it wasn't an easy thing to do. All of a sudden, he's top our world, doing god knows what! how? I hate this way of blizz story telling. 6 years and still no lore-clarification.
Wait. Wait. Wait!!! Azeroth has TWO souls?! That's what is special about it?!
blink!
What if the "Boy King" is actually the new Arbiter? That means he did not offer us any lies yet. He might in the Future however. When the War is over and we get to decide the Future of Azeroth. and all of them would be definitive outcomes and not infinite Paths.
Questioning if Azeroth is not a true titan raises a bigger conundrum regarding BFA: perhaps Azeroth gave us her heart to free N'Zoth, for that's what she wanted to happen.
good stuff, i enjoyed this
“What are the origins of the Warcraft universe?”
Shadowlands dev: “Well you see the first on—*gunshot*”
Odyn didn’t want mortals to know about the Shadowlands? You know what, Odyn wasn’t such a bad guy.
well if SL is to be used for anything, Azeroth could be the true source as she is being used to imprison the other 5 or all 6 even.b.c the titans also have a zerith they seek to control knowing they are not. the first ones clearly are or were.
I really hope Azeroth is a primordial deity like Gaia and she is supposed to be awake right now
It is my pet theory for a quiet long time now that Azeroth is not a so subtle reference to Azathoth. She is a primordial chaos that should never be awekened, she is the center of the universe and old gods are not some alien parasites that find their way to her but her dreams childs etc.
I am not expecting this came to fruition after the way story headed but I am certain in one point reference was there.
I had a hunch the moment you made a video about having every "zereth" for every domain of power. Now we know another zereth being Ordus
So your speculation is 100% on point nobbel because you did say once during ur streams what IF the titans never made the order what if the first ones did?
Because in reality now we know what Zovaal really wanted… Zovaal released that he saw how flawed the system was with every domain wanting to dominate another and take over everything.. He like Sargeras saw no other point but to eliminate everything and all orders to dominate all at once to ensure that everyone is kept at bay.
Technincally speaking I'd reckon that Zovaal saw something much horrifying as he mentioned "Cosmsos divided will not survive what is to come" I believe this has to do with what those 6 morons at the seat of pantheon want to do.. I believe that they will use Azeroth in the final expansion to cascade the power of order to subjugate all domains into "order"… Speculation but I think this is what is going to pass in the next 4-5 years from now..
I'm speculating… That Zovaal figured out that the Titans wanted to use Azeroth's power to do exactly the same thing that he was going to do using Domination magic to prevent such atrocity to come to pass and he was going to use Azeroth's soul to do this.
Think about it,
The domain of disorder has been eliminated as Sargeras is jailed, Light and Order worked together on this to prevent the Domain of disorder taking over the universe
The domain of death maniuplated all other domains to subjugate all domains to the domain of Death and ultimately they were stopped.
The domain of void sent fourth eldritch creatures to corrupt a sleeping titan and thwarted by so eliminating the old gods from Azeroth
What if the Domain of Light, Order and Life have been working all together? I feel like this makes a lot of sense.
Raszageth did say "Do you think that the Titans brought order to this world? No!.. They shackled it, what they couldn't control. They imprisoned."
Now does not this sound like Zovaal ? just imprisoning those who do not follow your will and those who do follow the wills of the titan will be rewarded… Examples Dragon Aspects.
Man the lengths they go to justify the existence of the jailer and sylvanas is dumbfounding.
I suppose my biggest question about a titan spirit, is, when it awakens, do they just magic out of the planet formed around them? Or is Azeroth just a big ass egg shell, that will be completely shattered when she wakes. Maybe the reason the origination equipment exists is to break that eggshell, to set her free. Titans only seem to care about mortals when it suits them, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they’re just playing nice so we don’t decide to prevent the proverbial (and literal) egg from hatching
Also, Eonar has her secrets, I'm sure.
I mean, a supposedly Titan of Order is the Patron of Life.
Sounds like someone (Or…Ones) invaded another Elemental force, and perhaps conquered it, right?
A creamy nougat center.
"This world is a prison" could still make complete sense. The Golden prison thing that the incarnates were in, is a titan made prison, same thing that's in the middle of the logo for "The Last Titan" expansion…. so Azeroth (the planet) could be a prison, or contain a prison within in, for Azeroth (the being) whether she's a Titan or a "First one" or whatever she ends up being. That's my guess. 😊
My issue is, why would Azeroth be such a powerful being of order that all the other cosmic forces want it? Would they not have similarly powerful beings in each pantheon that all the others would be fighting over?
That pretty much ensures that Azeroth isn't a being of order. It can't be a Titan.
It's something else.
With every bit of news they release i regrett buying the war within more and more. At least i bought it with gold.
I find it interesting that the Pantheon seemed to fall apart once they bumped into Argus. If you are against change and want permanent unchanging life so much so that you order death to what is basically a second life (but even more ordered). Running into a world soul that’s innate nature is death and 1 honest Titan realizing that they are trying to change the nature of the universe seems like it fits perfectly with everything so far. I’m guessing Azeroth is imprisoned because it’s innate nature/force/power is change
The only thing I dont like about Azeroth being a "Titan" is that titans as we know are beings of order, which implies the titans are "ordered" world souls. Thats why order wants her, is to create a titan super power.
The fact that the naaru were forged at the great ordering also implies that they are an ordered form of light and not the true light of the cosmos.
I believe that Azeroth is the true light of the cosmos, the light of creation, there is a lot of evidence in game to suggest she is the "earth mother" of the tauren legends.
Hey Nobbel, as always your videos are amazing. It never ceases to impress me how fluently and smooth you present different topics about the Warcraft Universe!
I was wondering if you could make a video with regards to the shadowy figure from Season of Discovery? Some people speculate that it is Xal'atath or something and I'd like to know your thoughts on this matter. 🙂
Great analysis!
full circle for metzen, coming back to work on dwarf stuff(vanilla esque), belf lands (tbc) and northrend (wrath) world engine at storm peaks .. i also blizz planning/building around classic players' New experience of wrath and tbc, so that it all lines up :]
Why would Azeroth empower Nozdormu if he's destined to become Murozond?
Thought. I havent played Dragonflight yet but I occasionally follow your lore updates.
What if the Titans are mortal gods? Maybe they aren't exactly beings of order but beings of the mortal plan that can be molded into champions of other planes? That could be why they are born inside of planets instead of in their realm. It just so happens Order got the strongest foothold and molded the titans to their image first before the other forces could. Creating an imbalance in the forces.
