Zelda in WW held the Master Sword in the final battle, and OoT Zelda supposedly returned the Master Sword to its pedestal after sending Link back in time.
It doesn't seem like it has anything to do with who wields a piece of the triforce, since Zelda and Link in WW had their triforce pieces of Wisdom and Courage extracted from them, but were still able to wield it afterwards.
It really does seem like it all boils down to Royal Blood and Heroic Spirit.
My headcanon is that the master sword ofc is just another sword. Someone could use it to cut stuff with it. But only link or potentially Zelda can unlock its true potential
I say there's a difference between wielding a sword and using it, only link can use it to its full potential, for others it would just be a really sharp sword
What I find funny is that the gilded sword from majora's mask does the same amount of damage as the master sword from ocarina of time. So all that work the hero of the sky could've just been crafter by some gorons and a random blacksmith.
I think anyone can touch the master sword (as long if its not in its pedestal or an enemy trys to weild it) but cant use its true power beseides, so basically its like a normal sword if a random good person uses it.
Or the sprit of the hero and the bloodline of the goddess. I think a good argument for this would be for windwaker since THAT Link was not the spirit of the hero and was just a boy searching for his sister. He actually had to fight to unleash its true power with the sages help since the original spirit of the hero was transported back in time in OoT.
1. Zelda is also a descendent of the first link most likely 2. Zelda holds the master sword she doesn’t actually wield it and use it to fight to my knowledge at least
Apparently a Yuga Clan thief can steal it right out of the Master Sword pedestal in the Lost Woods but hey. Lol In all seriousness, I do wonder if the sword would cause damage to anyone else who tries to take it.
Doesn't Ghirahim take the master sword?

Or really Sonia form ToTK can wield it
Yea but zelda can't swing that shit like link can
Makes sense
It's giving thors hammer

Nahh zelda can swing the sword cause link was inside of her
Technically in you manage to bringt a yiga to the lost Woods He can steal the mastersword

I think it's just a normal ass sword that Link thinks is special. Space Jam logic.
What about King Rhoam Bosphoramus Hyrule?
And RED BOKO
True this is why I like skyward sword bc is the only one who actually had to create it from the sacred flames
That doesn’t make sense since all hylians would be related to link and Zelda and by peroxy shika too

Other characters can wield it now because it isn’t the true master sword anymore, as trial of the sword proves

Canonically maybe but do not underestimate the botw totk moblin with master sword. All the fear is the legendary master torch.
do the blacksmiths in a link to the past/a link between worlds count as "wielding" it lol
Technically skywards swords link wasnt named Link he was named my name i am the chosen one
