  1. I think largely the hype for me is the fact that they are getting rid of borrowed power, which means the vast majority of content will be optional content. Borrowed power meant grinding content you didn't want to grind to get power so that you could play the content you wanted to play. Redirecting power to the talent tree/tier sets means you can just gear via whatever kind of content you want to play (hopefully).

Dragon races have a lot of potential to me, but Blizzard will need to seriously support them. There will need to be cool cosmetics rewarded for winning. I hope they go all in on it, and I hope they support future iterations of it beyond Dragonflight.

  2. It’s a little confusing to hear how fixated on the open world content (which is fair) then not care about dragon riding. Since you’re going to be doing that a TON getting around the open world

  3. Imagine an expansion being hyped JUST because the devs are doing somethings right, and not messing up too much.
Gosh, I miss the old days when an expansion actually brought fun systems, new cool class design and meaningful world content.

  4. WOW=Nealy 1/3 of your gear set can be crafted… Well you see over in a land called Eorzea aka weeb land we can have a full set of crafted gear.

  5. I think its pretty common to be hopeful for an upcoming expansion especially when its just months away. On one hand you have the unknown where an unplayed expansion without a ton of info out can be both good or bad. On the other you have content creators who can almost single handedly create hype or dread for an upcoming game with their hot take.

Dragon riding and professions could be the next Mythic+ for WoW. Or it could be island expeditions. I remember how much they tried to hype up island expos. Talking about the tech going into the other team and how the AI would make it feel like actual players. How they islands would be dynamic and that no two islands would be the same. In reality it would be much different and frankly a failed experiment. I think if you went back in time and told Cata players hey, you wanna run dungeons with harder difficulty over and over again i think they would think you are nuts. But M+ has been a successful experiment and even competes with Raiding/PVP for end game content. Could professions become like that? Possibly. Dragon riding i have more doubts about but it at least sounds interesting. Time will tell there.

I think Shadowlands they decided to cater heavily towards the high end people and left a decent amount on the table for the low end which sadly made a lot of people not have a ton to do. Hopefully Dragonflight has an answer for that as honestly the game needs people who just wanna go around gathering or standing around joking and whatnot. Social games need people to make it work

  6. Same game but different audiences. There are pvpers, raiders, m+ people, role-players and open world players. Each one needs it’s own content and they shouldn’t mix. It’s annoying to have to do raid to get the thing you need if you are a pvper, or feeling “forced” to grind m+ if you only raid. Or to grind open world to get the player power you need to smash that +15 for weekly vault. The rewards for you prefered type of content should only come from that content imo.

  7. I agree, world content needs to be alot more enjoyable and worth it. It seems very hard to figure out, sitting here on my own. Hopefully blizzard can figure it out.

  8. There are two camps of players regarding open world. Like you said uou play just a few characters. Fine you can do all the grind and feel pleasant. But for others thats a real pain having to do the grind all over again on a new alt or something. Just make this grind accountwide…..

  9. I had no hype at all for SL. I liked the idea of Torghast (and still kind of do) but disliked Covenants as an expansion defining feature. Ended up buying-in anyway due to FOMO. Regretted it about two weeks in and quit.

Dragonflight seems to be taking some steps in the right direction. I am more excited for it than I was for SL but I am still, somewhat pessimistically, awaiting some overall design decision to be revealed post-launch that will poop all over it.

    In other words: cautiously optimistic.
