  1. Gear has been another progression format in addition to leveling since the first xpac. However, gear progression being locked behind RNG is incredibly frustrating and discouraging to continue as unlocks rolls continue.

  2. Gear is the continuation of progression after you hit max level

There was always meant to be progression of the gear itself as well.

From the beginner shirt and shorts that look more common than anything to the stuff that is more outlandish and more refined looking

  3. Gear doesn't, however, mean that you can do that endgame content.
I'm around 630 ilvl now, and mythic still feels like a slog, and the rewards don't even feel worth the effort.
What? I have to bash my head against a brick wall of a boss in the hopes it drops a piece that is a marginal upgrade? No thanks.

  4. Used to be able to craft 1st and 2nd bis pieces for a few slots and the item level gap between seasons was roughly 15 or so.
You could choose to play a new character, do last season’s raid with some friends, and be good to go by the end of the week.

When heroic was renamed to mythic along with the removal of 10 man hard modes, it became a slog.

I met every friend on wow through the old alt gearing method. Getting rid of this really killed off the ability to meet people and start new friendly raid groups.

  5. After a decade break, the shit people complain about is hilarious. Grinding gear isn't new, and it's stupid easy to get now. Unless you are hard-core min/maxing for some stupid fucking reason. And yes, min/maxing as a non-world first chaser is, in fact, stupid.
