We’ve seen MMO’s start to focus a bit more on solo gameplay and WoW’s latest expansion, The War Within, is no exception! With the implementation of delves and the warband system, wow is more solo friendly than ever! Here’s why I think that’s a good thing.

I think solo content is not always good. for example i played start of the shadowlands, had no guild, just did dungeons and felt very alone at the game, and not so long ago i played on a private cataclysm server, had a guild, met new friends that i played with constantly, even the active discord of theserver felt great. playing wow alone feels just bad and solo content shouldnt really be a thing.
player numbers dropped and they they added more solo experience's numbers have grown in TWW and lets face it if WOW does go to consoles which i think it will at somepoint its a BIG plus its good now that people arent forced to do multi-player but can if they want to
I love the idea of solo content with the option to group up. I’m in a great guild and play with a few friends, but love playing at my own pace.
This gives players options.
If you love groups, play with groups.
If you love solo play, you now have an option to progress as a single player.
Not everyone is social.
Not everyone likes to be alone.
Having solo progression with the option to group up encompasses a larger group.
You play the game your way.
Although different I think the success of games like Elden Ring etc etc might have made them re-think as they were so popular
Love your stuff! I have played WOW solo for 20 years.
i play because two of my friends play. dungeons and delves solo was not as fun grouping up with a friend or two. i get why the dungeon finder exists but in old mmos, making a guild and having more online "friends" to group up to do x y and z was better.
as a game dev, most mmo's have 50% solo casual players. 5% or less squak for more raids and other higher content. now you tell me, it's best to devote 95% of game dev time to making raids or high party content or …
content for solo and smaller groups.
building a community is slow. I did play wow classic sod for the 1st part. you'd see entire parties of hunters running dungeons. other times, people would ask for help on this or that quest in some goblin infested mine.
there is no one answer but the bread crumbs are there to follow.
I started playing shortly after release of Burning Crusade and stopped around Legion. I would login almost every time Blizz sent me a free weekend thing and after about an hour would decide the game still sucks. Back when I started a bunch of IRL friends and I all quickly joined the game and started our own guild. Power struggles in the guild eventually tore it apart, leaving just a couple people. We tried to PUG other users for dungeons but almost always ended up with one or two outsiders that would just jump around and agro everything. This led me to not wanting to do dungeons at all. I always felt like I was missing out on so much content. I picked WoW back up during the free week just before TWW release. I was having a lot of fun and since TWW, I've been thrilled with delves and even the ability to solo dungeons (with I'm assuming an AI group). Right now is the most fun I've EVER had in the game. I'm the only person left in my guild and keep it going but I do have one IRL friend playing and we've been discussing running some dungeons and delves together. My only wish is that Blizz would do something to punish lazy players. Battling enemies while someone loots whatever they were protecting sucks and players that sit there mounted during a fight just to tap in it at the last second to get loot sucks too.
Stupid afk arena ad in the middle of the comment tab lol. I couldn’t agree more with your point of view. I hope that is the destination blizzard is trying to go to.
to be honest I want WoW to stick to raids, and GW2 to solo/duo content and FF14 to other bigger group content.
I didn't mind dedicating my time to a guild when I was a teenager with all the time in the world. Now in my late 20's and working full time I like to just relax as a casual andy when I get home, maybe queue up a few follower dungeons. I'm just looking for a different experience than I used to back in 2005 to 2015 era.
Overwatch and LoL got me into the habit of muting everyone, turning off all forms of chat, and disabling team/proxy voice chat. I am more antisocial now due to gaming than when I literally hid in my room for 2 years.
I've said it a thousand times and I'll say it a thousand more:
Auto-Moderation based on mass reports will immediately kill your games social integrity. When you have to worry about doing high DPS or the guild just mass reports you and you get banned, or not bricking a key by making a mistake, or saying the wrong thing to the wrong person with enough of a turbo virgin army to come at you… you retreat from social environments where you stand to paint a target on your back and stay in solo content where you're safest from their ire.
Remove auto-mod from mass reports without manual intervention and you'd see people start to breathe a sigh of relief that the PC police can no longer hold you at knife point to have the same opinion they do or to stay silent.
Every guild I've ever joined in WoW wound up having drama at some point. There have only ever been two guilds I joined that were truly positive experiences, and they were both in SWTOR, a game well known for engaging solo play.
Have you checked the new MMORPG that is coming on the 1st of October, Throne and Liberty?
