No. It's already shitty. F2P will just make it worse.
If anything private servers should be monetized. Allow people to create new BGs, guild halls, ect. This will allow blizzard to be what it is at it's core. An imitator. For years blizzard was on top due to being able to take ideas, reshape them, and make them better. Dragonflight is the idiot end of this. Where they just copy paste things from another game in to draw in that games crowd.
Blizzard has never been a good innovative company. They've been kings while imitating, and have stooped down to the idiot category as of late.
That's all business types are. Innovators who created something amazing, but can't or don't know how to capitalize on their invention. Imitators who copy something but add their own twist to make it better. Then idiots who just do the laziest thing to cash grab.
Blizzard is an imitator. Through and through. For a long time now there have been no innovators to imitate. So they tried to innovate, which failed horribly. So now they're being idiots and just cash grabbing.
How to fix this? By allowing the essence of sand box gaming to come back.
Why did we like warcraft? Sure the story is great. The mechanics were amazing at the time, and so on. But custom games is what made everyone fall in love. Fortnite has done an amazing job at this to where they no longer need to think of things. They can take ideas from their creative fan base.
Blizzard should allow people to pay for their own private servers. Have many types, from small servers to massive ones. This is more money in their pockets + brings in new people.
These private servers would be the new F2P platform. It allows people to learn the game in new and fun ways, get them hooked, and want to "earn it the real way" sometime.
Within these private servers can even be cash shops. Where people help support their favorite private servers. Maybe it's just to help with the cost of the servers so there's no way for these servers to gain money, but can basically make the server nearly free for the creator of it. So it can be a passion project instead of another scheme.
Then make classic+ with the best ideas from these servers.
I forgot to comment when I actually watched this… Great video as ever, and I would love for free to play wow to be a thing! The biggest thing keeping me from giving it a fair chance is the pricetag and I guess the time commitment.
I've never been a WoW player, hoping on from time to time to see what all the fuss is about. But if they made classic F2P I would absolutely play it. The reason I don't play WoW now is because I begrudge paying a sub for a game I consider to be meh when I could just play GW2 or ESO for free. If I'm gonna pay a sub I'd rather spend that money of FF14.
I would go back if WoW was expanded for people that don't want to spend money. They will either get money or they will leave. They should sell weapons instead of subscriptions.
No one needs SoM or any other bullshit. Era is establishing itself as a unique community and it should stay that way. You have Wrath for a different experience.
Whitemane is so much fun right now. $15 a month keeps out many trolls, tourists and otherwise toxic players who are simply there to be toxic.
I can only imagine how much F2P would ruin this game… I'd be back on a private server like that
I was always thinking, "Why isn't classic free?" A nice x and o from Blizzard to its long-time fans and a chance for others to experience its epic journey. But your explanation is perfect, classic era is the answer. However, by the way Blizzard has been leaning, they'll make some excuse to implement microtransactions if they introduce a "free service". It's a popular topic, but we can't blame gold sellers, because gold buyers are just as much a problem. Especially those who have bought so much gold they were actively hiring players of the opposite faction to hunt and kill other players on a server-wide scale. sigh I can't live down the "RlSE" drama when they invaded Netherwind during the free transfers, some pompous… arrogant gamers that should have been dealt with. I made a half-assed video of the "opening the gates of AQ madness" if you want to check it out. I admit, it was a lot of fun when I look back at it, but at that time was a royal pain. Deep breaths man, deep breaths, where was I?
Oh yeah, can't trust Blizzard. I guarantee you it won't be a "classic experience" once it becomes free. Although, it would give players a taste of Blizzard's monetization practices before buying the current game.😝"Some things are best left alone." Sure, spell batching was a wild attempt at making an mmo feel… laggy…old internet? Once they removed it, holy crap the game felt so much better. The chronoboons were a cool attempt to keep people from raid logging but came too late. Introducing higher exp rates during TBC's final days was interesting. An attempt to "bring players back" and it worked, sort of. It mostly brought back the fast paced, "replace the tank, he's not pulling fast enough" players. What I'm trying to get at is this, Blizzard's word is never concrete. I feel classic has turned into the WoW that caters to today's fast-paced audience, not the past. The small fanbase you see playing on classic era servers are what is so hard to find on the server I played on during WoTLK (I quit a couple weeks after launch). How long will that cherished fanbase last before Blizzard puts its grubby little hands around classic era's neck?
Lengthy and sometimes off-topic, but I needed something to distract me from this migraine. Vanilla wow is like an ex you just can't get off of your mind. If they make her free, I'm scared I'll go right back to her.
Should be free.. total agree
How about making it free for anyone who has any prevouis WoW purchase, like how they released Shadowlands for free near the release of Dragonflight. It'll strike a balance between WoW players who have purchased stuff before so no bots while at the same time making them return to the game.
Playing wow since TBC, but left it before the launch of Shadowland… won't never play again, but if Classic become free :O !! Watch me spend some nice hour on it !
Never happening.
And you have 0 idea who plays wow lol.
And as WoW player if you dont like game from free trial you just dont like game simple as that.
I would play Classic Era if it was free. I don't care a bit for retail wow, it's pure garbage to me. I tried dragonlands and it's the worst xpac to date. Only people that review it positively are the leftovers from Shadowlands, needles to say, they have no standards anyway. And wrath classic same, since they deleted my TBC character basically by forcing it on wrath,. It will be forced on Cata, big no. Only thing I want is classic era, maybe classic+ or a brand new wow made by the old devs, no these token pay2win gogogogo clowns. Whichever it will be, I will never pay a subscription again, that era has gone.
I think the season version (seasonal) should be paid similar to the retail version.
The Classic Era version should be given as a gift to players who have paid more than two years of monthly fees as a thank you (avoids bot).
And anyone who bought any expansions in the past shouldn't have the Started Edition restrictions until level 20.
I don't even play pservers now
because blizzard destroyed the community with their arrogance, inaction, incompetence, greed and support of idiots
horrible people play this game now, that come that far that somehow even pserver admins never listen to players
i am so happy to quit for past couple of years after 10 years played, even videos only make me laugh.
Based on the monetization with the wow token and cash shop the game actually makes sense to be free to play. I’m not sure why some wow players are so hell bent on keeping the game pay to play, considering how much the game is monetized. They make plenty off of the cash shop and wow tokens. Not to mention server transfers and all the little things they nickel and dime you for.
Basically, if they charge $15/mo they shouldn’t have a cash shop at all. It’s ridiculous, imagine if league of legends became pay to play. On top of charging for skins.
The $65 you're referring to only applies to retail. Classic only requires a subscription and no additional purchases. It still doesn't have any sort of free trials unlike WoW back in the day but retail is still more expensive to play than Classic. You don't even have to buy a copy of WoW and haven't had to since they changed the subscription model in 2018 to automatically give you the second newest retail expansion as long as you pay the sub fee and don't even have to buy the game once on top of that anymore. Brand new accounts can access the near-full retail game just by paying a sub and only have to buy the new expansion on top of that. For Classic you get absolutely everything with a sub. I think paying a sub to experience all 3 games is a good deal for the money and I personally play them all but it's sad that you have to get people to pay a sub just to even try Classic. The 10-day trial was a great system and they should probably have something similar for Classic and especially vanilla.
I dont even need to watch further. Wow classic should be free. It is an old version of the current game. It basically could serve as an extended demo. People would probably play WoW Classic for the first time and get curiose to try the new game. Idk, maybe it is just my personal pipedream so that I could try classic Wow without needing to pay…
Really dont mind paying. Anf f2p also come with moronic cashshop tradeoffs
They will make classic f2p when it will be close to death, and they will be done with development (to be honest I don't know what development team they have in classic but anyway), same thing happened with SC1, SC2. That's when I will start to play classic again because I won't pay subscription for a 20 yo game out of principle but I would use the shop for cosmetics, maybe boost.
I'd love to experience this epic game through free to play. As one of those who lead "boring adult lives" :))) my gaming hours per week are drastically limited, so being on a paid subscription just to enjoy the game for a few hours (per month!) would never make sense, not if the price was a dollar.
Just give a free trial for 10 days, or until lvl 20 like back in the day.
For me retail has too much. I like the classic wotlk because its simple. Straight up level, quest dungeon, and repeat. I would like to do raids but I have just as much fun playing by myself or with friends just questing. I don’t care about the drama. I just love the game!
Retail and Classic should at least open up F2P til lvl40.
In Classic you get your mount and a decent amount of talent points. You've seen a lot of leveling dungeons and zones.
In Retail you'd be able to use the fastest flying speed and could be teased for further leveling/the xpac via Dragonriding.
It would need a massive restriction on farming/storage/gold acquisition. It is one thing to fight bots, it's another thing allowing them to thrive too fast.
MAKE CLASSIC FREE!
i have never played wow but classic just seems more beginner friendly to me so when i start playing next week i will probably only play classic at first
Absolute bs… you still need to be maintained and you have servers cost and maintain on top of some bare minimum support and staff to monitor things. From business pov is dumb , from player's pov is also dumb cause this means no proper maintenance and customer support and also why on earth would they run servers and pay bills for charity ? No matter how old os the game if there arent micro transactions it needs to be on subscription or u can go to private servers if u dont want to pay for decent official game. I dont even need to watch ur whole video .. its flawed no matter what ur pov is
i honestly agree or they should atleast allow us to purchase for a lifetime game
It's time to make a petition to Microsoft to Free Classic.
i would love to play classic for free but there is no way im gonna pay monthly fee just to play the game like up to a week a month…
all games should be free to play
