Dragonflight’s content has clearly learned lessons from the storytelling of FFXIV, and it shows, because some of this stuff is great. However, the actual *story* is still going to be clowned on ,and they have a long way to go. Here’s my review of how Dragonflight is different, and the same, thanks to FF’s influence.

Thanks for watching! We hope you enjoy.

  1. I want to play…but I just can't give them more than like 10 hours a week, tops. I can't do mindless dailies. I don't believe them, that there is no daily grind. Heard it before. Seen it turn out to be a lie, more than once. Let me be a raid logger, with 5 or so hours a week outside raid, and you get my money until the end of time. But I can't give you 20 hours a week. That's a part time job.

  2. Life and death no longer have meaning or agency in warcraft after BFAIL and SYSTEMLANDS. Lore got wrecked beyond repair unless the retcon the last crap expansions out of the story.(which they won't since it will admit the utter failure). The legion, old gods, black empire azahara, frigging Arthas all that was so interesting to expeculate but since we got portals to the death realm the current history feels tainted and plainly uninteresting.

  3. So tired of this narrative over and over, "we are listening", "they are changing"…… Lets pump the brakes and wait for the xpac please. BFA and SL were hot garbage and lore destroying. I am hoping that Dragonflight is good but I have very low expectations.

  4. Don’t don’t know if DF will be a success or how many expansions wow will have. What they need to do is just create wow 2. I would love to see something like Wow 2 done in a engine like unreal. Have it take place before the events of Warcraft classic. It would be pretty cool to see a more gritty feel to the game less cartoonish.

  5. If all of the characters were cat girls and anime characters Im guessing he would suddenly think it was perfect. Look, to each his own with regard to the types of games you enjoy or whatever because we all enjoy different games, but presenting information as fact with regard to which story is better because you find value in side quests about "OMG sweet honey cake squeeee" does not translate for everyone. The FF14 story has its moments but it is NOT this narrative masterpiece that the fans of the game seem to want to pretend it is. Because another game isn't your taste does not automatically make YOUR game perfect. It makes it perfect FOR YOU. While I am currently not subbed to either game, I prefer WoW between the two games because the story of FF14 bored me to tears. Its hours of mindless yammering about nonsense and cutesie BS, with occasional flashes of "oh, that was cool." For me, they could cut out huge chunks of the FF14 story and I would not miss them at all. He is talking about how amazing it is that you spend time talking to NPCs and inspecting equipment before doing a mission but that is not fun to everyone. It is a waste of time.

I suppose I would divide the fan base like this… if you love doing tutorials and reading all of the pop ups and practicing the tutorial and engaging with every NPC to hear them say whatever, versus people that enjoy getting in the fighting and doing the combat portion and want the main story points but don't care if the guy in the corner of the fort gets the items needed to make the ultimate taco. That's WoW versus FF14. I don't care about the taco. Its useless to me.

  6. One thing I don't agree with on matt but also sort've don't like about FF14 is that the FF14 characters rather sit on their hands a vast majority of the time UNTIL you show up and then they do it on screen with you. So they largely don't do anything on their own unless it's to learn something and tell you about an issue they need you to do. The world and the story often come to a HALT until the warrior of light helps them and I'm not particularly fond of that writing. WoW has done that a lot lately too but not as bad to me. I would definitely prefer that we maybe get visions or quests where we become illidan /khagar etc to see the events of the story like those scenarios rather than our character just there pushing the story along.

Also, I agree with the character getting a voice. I rather enjoy that. GW2 has that and I enjoy that sort've storytelling even if I don't like the game's story that much. Atmosphere and immersion are my favorite key ingredients in storytelling for me. Without them, I don't care as much. I'll forget the names of who i have to do things with and events. I do that often with FF14. All we do is focus the main cast with bits of the others. I just can't get that invested since I don't get immersed in the world. I'm only left to care about the main "team" that goes with me.

  7. 🤣 You guys have been saying this for years! The company hasn't changed and they won't change. This is just like the old " this changes everything!" videos you used to put out.

  8. I personally think Blizzard stealing from FFXIV is the best thing that can happen for the game. Having a dungeon pool from past expacs for mythic plus like the roulette system is great, taking FFXIV crafting class design also great, switching back to gear being more important than Expac specific borrowed power is great. As a bonus we also get dragon riding from GW2 which WoW is actually doing better by giving it away and not locking it behind a $20 paywall with 2 months of grinding. I really hope Dragonflight is good, granted Shadowlands eviscerated the lore but hey maybe they will salvage it into something

  9. wow has burnt me enough now that the game could be amazing, and i just couldn't find myself to give a shit. It's also hard to think about going back when you just no any work you put in will just be taken away once the new patch or next expansion comes out, as always nothing lasts in wow, it all gets wiped clean. i just cba anymore.

  10. Say what you will about WoD, but the Garrison system was so fantastic for a lot of what you early points in the video are about. It really gave a good sense of "these are real characters" instead of "click polygonal humanoid, get quest, never think about them again." Even still, FFXIV does this so flawlessly, so I hope to get at least a little more of it in wow. And if people want to zoom and ignore it, that's fine too, but as an RPG fan, I love this stuff.

  11. 0:19 we all know that WoW's story has been on the decline for some years now, but to say that FFXIV has a good story… Damn, man, that's a level of fundamental ignorance about storytelling that only weebs tend to achieve.

  12. "Feels good", LMAO, yeah, right, cool story. What kind of ineducable breed of people keep stepping on the same rake for literally a decade in a row and still try to advocate that the next step will be fine?
