With us being a good way into Season of Discovery now and unofficial sites starting to estimate a few numbers, I wanted to go over Classic as a whole and see how the game is doing players wise.
From every indication we have Season of Discovery is doing incredibly well – but just how much so?
Today I take a look at the bigger picture of why: World of Warcraft Is BACK… And Vanilla Is Leading The Way

  1. I just don't get why they're making the 1-60 part so long in SoD. 7-8 months between the release of the server and end game is just crazy.
Feel like these low level caps should just be a short temporary thing, but at the moment i feel as if it's atleast twice as long as it ought to be. As for the low-level raids i don't quite care too much about it, would rather they left em as end game content.

  2. I've been a filthy casual with SoD but my buddies are running 3-4 toons each raid lockout. They also need to enforce faction balance on PvE realms, Wild Growth(US) seems to be getting worse.

  3. Season of Discovery has been fun, yes.
But… I feel like the server/game is dead, even though we are 40.000 or more raiding players. I never meet the same persons twice in the world. Everything is just tradechat spam that moves too quickly to read, by a horde of players I have never seen the names of before. It feels like a single-player/coop game, with a graphical chat lobby.

Back in 2005-2006, you could build relations over time, by engaging with players you met in the world and so forth. Even cross faction. Now, with layering and the insane amount of players, it is near impossible to get the same experience.

I get the need for having these mega servers, and therefore layers, from a balance perspective… I just would have loved the option to be on a server with a smaller and more tight-knit community like in the good old days.
    Oh well, times change.

  4. SoD got boring for me fast, hardcore ruined me for softcore WoW forever. It was similar in diablo, when diablo2 had a hardcore mode I only ever played that in diablo as well. I need the stakes.

Luckily, we're still going very strong on Defias-Pillager.

  5. I dont think people want "Easy fast" raids this is a Raid for level 25 as the game progresses the Raids will develop more mechanics what did you expect from a level 25 raid 10 mechanics on each boss with our 17 talents? You have to not look at this in a vacuum

  6. "People have imagined vanilla with changes for years" … no they haven't… Vanilla with changes is just retail. Retail sucks, and frankly SoD is creating a bridge between classic and retail. A bridge that trivializes the game and, once again, makes everything you do feel so unrewarding because its basically handed to you.

  7. I stopped playing in the middle of TBC, did the first phase of Wrath, and starting playing SoD when I came out. I can tell a lot of Wrath people came to SoD because so many people are asking me for my Gear Score! 😂

  8. SoD has started a fundamental change to the social aspect of gaming. More comradery, fun, and collaboration between factions. On my server every friday night my guild and an ally guild take ~20 people to Wetlands and try to take control of the docks for a few hours. Each side is streaming and having fun, saying how great it is we are out there doing world pvp. It all seems in good spirits too. Dancing, having fun, not taking it too seriously. Even the raid we 9man and dont really req anything beyond shadow protection potions.

I would love to see your perspective from Alliance and your guild. I find the social part to be incredibly interesting.

  9. I don't know why a video about a video game having an ad in it for another game in it cracks me up so much. I mean, if the game you're advertising is so good why not just make the whole video about that KEKW as I skip to 2:20

  10. its great they made feral valuable in raids, however after leveling one to 25 and doing two BFDs. I can confidently say they are THE most boring class to raid on. I know classic raiding is mostly 1-3 button rotations, but my god feral is way more boring than rogue/warr for example. But yeah windfury cool and glad they gave the furries some love. But yeah mangle spam gets old very quick.

  11. SoD is so weird. My classic guild split right down the middle, half of us staying behind to farm ICC content level up alts and do ruby sanctum, the rest left for SoD day and didn't come back. I levelled to 25 in SoD, did BFD and some ashenvale in the first two weeks never looked back… felt like a half baked vanilla to me, but people love it. Clearly its a big win for blizzard though, nominal dev team supporting hundreds of thousands of sustained subscriptions on 20 year old content.
