  1. WoW was a perfect made game at a perfect time of the internet reaching more people. But, as most players have said a million times, things changed at some point and it was Post Wrath. Its one thing to change due to storyline but its another to change when it comes to systems and mechanics. The game itself in modern retail is literally not even close to what WoW was pre Cata. Its a shame.

  2. I’d like to add a fourth category: new players. I started the game in July and quit last night, just 3.5 weeks into the expansion. With a 596 ilvl, I already feel gatekept from meaningful content. Playing two hours a night from Monday through Thursday, plus all day Saturday and Sunday, isn’t enough time to learn all the systems, research everything, keep up with the UI, and reach a high enough ilvl to find a group.

Generally, groups are asocial, and nobody talks. I joined a guild and made some friends, but their main way of experiencing the game is through pushing, which makes me feel like a charity case. The game is unfriendly to new players, and I hate it.

  3. If you hate the game but don't play it, then what does your opinion matter? I would assume if you play it, you must not hate it, right? And if you play it, but hated it, I would think that would make your outlook on the game and possibly priorities rather concerning… People hate on anything because they just cant help themselves but be sour and let people know that haha

  4. A lot of hate comes from it just being the biggest MMO at a time when MMOs were really good. Just about every MMO I've played was either better as a whole or better in multiple aspects than WoW. WoW just managed to hit it hot at the right time when a couple older MMOs had started their downturn.

  5. saying it’s hated is crazy cause it’s doing numbers and it did for MMOs what fortnite has done for battle royales the entire genre wouldn’t even be what it is if not for WoW. It’s changed but that’s what things do over time if you all played the same game for 20 years you wouldn’t have liked that very much either and would’ve found ways to complain about that.

  6. Hell hath no fury like a lover scorn. That's a major reason, people got unreasonably attached to Azeroth. The thing I find odd is that anyone upset with retail has an INSANE amount of options, both official and private.

  7. This is funny cuz i used to hate WoW and never played it. I remember it was during the famous EOC update for runescape that I kept saying in the rs forums “Man this update sucks this is not World of Wacraft!” Boy I joined in MoP and no game has ever done what this game has done to me. I was so HOOKED. Love you WoW ❤️

  8. Change is not bad. I expected the game to evolve. But they made changes that went away from the core elements that I enjoyed. There was ways to change and add things in that would have been more in line and spirit with the original vision. But we dev turn over and chasing every dime from players has ruined a once great game in my opinion.

  9. I started in vanilla and left (as well as many people I knew) right before the pandas came out because that was just too cartoon for me. I only came back a couple years ago and catching up my criticism is that each expansion feels like a smaller map with less actual exploration or wonder of what's around that bend or waterfall. Flying got too easy and now everybody is in this frenetic pace of take off, land, slaughter, take off, return quest, repeat.
It's like what Marvel did to cinema. Am I only the only person leftover who doesn't have ADHD?!
I'm going to be completely fair though. It was 20 years ago and there is a factor of everything in life seeming more exciting when you're in your 20's as opposed to your 40's. The game HAS changed, but so have us who were there from the start.
