  1. Soo some context:
Arthas Menithil was a prince of a Human Kingdom called Lodearon and a Paladin in training, he with his Teacher and old childhood friend was tasked with investigating some strange stuff in the Kingdom.
As it turns out the strange stuff was a Pleague of Undeath being spread and in his bid to save his Lingdom Arthas became more and more desperead culminating in his purge of the second biggest city because he deemed it to late, something that estranged his teacher and friend from him leaving him alone, while purging the city a demon called him out and posing as the mastermind behind the plague lured Arthas to a continent called Northend, there Arthas was lead to a Rune Blade called frostmourn (the sword with the skull).
This blade was cursed and part of an entetue called The Lich King.
Hetting corrupted/enslaved by the blade Arthas became a Death Knight and under the Lich Kings Thrall murdered his family, the city of Lodearon and the Kingdom with the help of the Lich Kingd Army of the Undead.
To cut things shorter the Lich King was in Danger of bering destroied and Arthss fused with him becoming the New Lich King the King of the Undead and enemy of all living things.

His story overall is way deeper and Arthas overall is more of a tragic Charackter emboding the phrase "the path to hell is paved with good intentions"

  2. I'd highly recommend checking out the Wrath of the Lich King intro some time for the visuals to go with Arthas, My Son. Arthas is the fallen prince of a human kingdom who became the Lich King, so the song is paired with him rising as an evil force of nature paired with a monologue from his father the king about his birth and wishes for him when he becomes king. It's a powerful, ironic video and classic Warcraft.

  3. The cold imagery is that of Icecrown/Icecrown Citadel in the frozen lands of Northrend. There's also the coldness of undeath which of course is what the Lich King presides over. I started playing WoW early on in Wrath of the Lich King and the story is a continuation of the Warcraft 3 story. The female character you saw was Sylvanas Windrunner, who was killed by Arthas and raised as a Banshee. She cursed Arthas, The Lich King, for the entirety of his unlife, and perhaps ironically later on became very much like the Lich King, herself, to the point of also becoming the enemy of the world again, same as the Lich King was. There must always be a Lich King however, without one, the undead Scourge runs rampant(think of it like how in Pirates of the Caribbean, the Flying Dutchman must always have a captain, that role must always be filled).
Arthas Menethil was the prince of Lordaeron, sometime after becoming the Lich King, the sword Frostmourne absorbed the soul of Arthas' father. After the players defeat the Lich King atop Icecrown Citadel, a cutscene plays where the soul of his father, now free, speaks to his dying son hence "Arthas, My Son" and Arthas asks him "Father! Is it over?" to which his father responds "At long last. No king rules forever, my son."

  4. There are people out there who feel that Arthas is one of the most iconic villains in gaming history. Some of those also believe that the only villain who has come anywhere near him since, is Hades from FFXIV.

Interestingly, both of these characters have a theme song named "Invincible". And you have listened to them both.

  5. WolTK WAS PEAK WoW. Even tough I hate blizzard now, I would rate playing WolTK at launch was my best PEAK gaming experience ever. I have never in my life got so invested into a game.

  6. I understand what you meant about the many people singing at once. It makes you feel and understand the human soul and essence, and at the same time, humanity is capable of the ultimate compassion, love, art, care, and respect, but at the same time, also capable of the most horrific horrors. At the same time you are awe of the human essence, but also terrified of it.

This is actually the exact theme of Arthas's life, and death as the LICH KING. In life, he was a holy paladin who did the most awesome of acts, but fell, and then did the most horrific of acts, so the voice in the song, starts innocent, and then gets drowned out by the "crowd" and at the end you can no longer hear the innocent voice.

  7. The Lich King, Artha Menethil. lost his horse invincible to his own carelessness. That night he made a vow to do what needed to be done when it needed to be done as a king. The scourge, a horrible plague had caused him to take drastic measures against his own people. The person behind the scourge had to pay, and he commited to this vow, even down to the cost of going rogue against his kingdom to look for a magical blade. The sword of the lich king. Frostmourne. The blade was inscripted: "Whomsoever takes up this blade shall wield power eternal. Just as the blade rends flesh, so must power scar the spirit." this curse costed him his soul, his sanity, everything. He became a puppet, who destroyed the one thing he swore to protect.

Arthas's tale is extremely tragic. And I'm very much so paraphrasing. I highly reccommend watching a video on Arthas menethil. You'll become obsessed FAST!

  8. No context is necessary, but now that you listened to it, watching the cinematic trailer for Wrath of the Lich King would complement the song quite nicely.
P.S.: WoW has incredible pieces of music worth looking into.

  9. It would be worth it to watch you react to the WotLK Trailer this song is a part of, just to see the context, and also hear this dude's father, the King, narrate over it. It is, in fact, peak.

  10. "My son, the day you were born, the very forests of Lordaeron whispered the name Arthas.

My child, I watched with pride as you grew into a weapon of righteousness.

Remember, our line has always ruled with wisdom and strength. And I know you will show restraint when exercising your great power.

But the truest victory, my son, is stirring the hearts of your people. I tell you this, for when my days have come to an end, you shall be King."

  11. As a personal opinion. This is not World of Warcraft for me, this is Warcraft 3 or Warcraft's golden era.
The story of Arthas was such an amazing product of it's time, it's either done by pure accident or as the most brilliant written video game character of that decade.
The journey of stoic and prideful attitude that descends into utter desperation, sadness, pain and eventually a Triumph so bittersweet you want the feeling of sorrow to continue, it's a masterclass written way of telling the story of the "Knight and the Dragon". The cutscenes in Wc3 was such a massive thing of the time and they where always artisticly put with flower petals showing the decay and the beauty of the prince returning at the same time but alas just ending up with a father loosing a son.

I'm sad that Lich King was castrated by new media like many other new media is now, There shouldn't have been an end raid boss in WoW with Arthas.
It shouldn't been possible to "de-throne" him because you can't do it without doing an insult to the arc of the character.
It's better to make new stories, new lifes that can push us forward with feelings then to try and bloat older ones.
Hey that's just my personal take I guess. Have a good one!

  12. The First song is the musing from the Wrath Of the Lich King expansion and encompasses the tragedy of the fall of Arthas Menethil a prince that the Lich King … some of the lines reference what is happening in the trailer
Second Invincible is kinda a theme music for the fallen Arthas … through the name comes from the name of his favorite horse that died while Arthas was young and then he raised him as an undead steed as he fell and became a Death Knight …

  14. Ive never liked playing WoW, but… I played Warcraft 3, where you get to play the story of Arthas, wich turns into the Lich King, and let me tell you… his story, the songs, and the cinematic… gives me chills and gets me emotional every time, its such a good, sad and emotional story of a man who was good and turns evil… mostly.
    Its just incredible.

Edit: And you should watch the cinematic of Wrath of the lich king, even if you dont record it.

  15. Arthas, My Son is meant to go with the official Wrath of the Lich King reveal cinematic, played in the background with matching dialogue and action.
"Invincible" is the name of the horse prince Arthas owned in his youth. Obviously the horse named Invincible died, Arthas had to mercy kill it so it didn't suffer from its injuries (it slipped sprinting through a snowstorm and broke its legs trying to jump over a ravine). It was Arthas that got Invincible killed, and his lesson from its death led him to adopt a selfless mentality and change his ways. His mentality was to be willing to sacrifice anything and shoulder any burden to help his people, no matter what it cost him, to prevent needless deaths and suffering in the future. This mentality later forced him to make horrible decisions that nobody else could(he slaughtered one of his own cities to prevent a zombie oubtreak that would've destroyed the region, for example). The path he was led down by circumstance alienated him from his friends and closest allies, and the horrible choices he was forced to make to save his people made him become irrational and obsessive. Arthas had eventually sacrificed his own soul to claim a cursed sword that had the power to kill the demon responsible for the spreading undead that were going to destroy his kingdom, because of that "sacrifice anything to save your people" mentality he had. The sword drove him mad and made him a pawn of the real mastermind behind the undead scourge, the Lich King, and Arthas slowly devolved into the heartless, souless monster that eventually destroyed his own kingdom FOR the undead and commit genocide on the elves. Eventually, Arthas merged with the mind of the old Lich King(who had no body) and then destroyed their mind. Arthas became the new lich king, a cruel and sadistic monster hell-bent on the extinction of all life so he could have a totally unified undead army big enough to fight against the demons when they eventually invade again. For context, the demons were the ultimate villains and enemies to everything, who created the original Lich King as their pawn and created the undead scourge to weaken the world and prepare it for their next invasion. The lich king wanted to end all life to create an army of undead to fight them, the demons just wanted to destroy the planet and harvest its power to conquer the universe faster.

  16. Many WoW players agree that Wrath of the Lich King is the best expansion WoW has ever had. Storywise it is captivating and evokes so many emotions and in my opinion the story is best I know.

  17. Arthas Menethil was a prince and holy paladin who, in his zealous quest of eradicating a plague of undeath from his kingdom, was corrupted. In oursuit of a demon who had spread the plague he found the sword Frostmourne, which lead him eventually to kill his father the king and eventually travel north to the Frozen Throne where the rest of the armor he wears was entombed; within it was an ancient spirit that empowered him further, making him the Lich King.

Warcraft 3 ends with him on the throne in the northernmost continent of the world.

The trailer of Wrath of the Lich King for WoW begins with the ice entombing him beginning to crack. He steps back into the world.

Invincible is a funeral dirge for his favourite horse.

Highly recommend watching both the Frozen Throne ending cinematic and the Wrath of the Lich King trailer back to back.

  18. I genuinely dislike the music of WoW a huge amount. It's easily one of the worst MMO soundtracks and it cannot even be compared to proper RPGs.
    But.
    This song is pretty great
