Gonna have to hard disagree on Mists. I personally didn't give a fuck about it being the kung fu panda expansion, monks were cool and pandas were a nice addition in that they were the first neutral race. Story was good, blizz literally pulled a ton of lore out of their ass and it was still interesting (not Suramar levels of interesting but still). Class design was insane, with every class basically being a god by the time 5.4 rolled around (warlock/shaman being able to perma cast filler spell while moving, for example) which made them extremely fun to play with. Every raid with the exception of mogushan was stellar, PvP was popping off with not one but two new standard BG's being added (temple of kotmogu one of the best ever, being the only BG which was strictly about fighting, making it breath of fresh air among most BG's being flag or domination-based). Heroics were unfortunately a joke again but at least there was challenge modes to give the dedicated players a reward to show off for their skill. Dailies were admittedly awful at the beginning but thankfully became irrelevant after raids and pvp season started. Isle of Thunder and Timeless Isle were insanely good fun especially if you played on a pvp server. World bosses were just okay aside from Oondasta which was an aids fest due to the lag but was nevertheless fun with all the wpvp it spawned. Also warlock green fire ftw.
This video was super good! I generally agree with your assessment of everything, although it's very clear that you have a very critical relationship with wow. Also it felt like it ended suddenly I feel like there was a summary coming or something and now it's just like nope lol but I guess that's videos for you. And yeah I was expecting rack to be rated higher but you brought up some really good points about how it was really the beginning of the end, which I suppose is talked about in other places online, but it was still well put
I would switch mop and cata and put wrath in A tier personally, but I appreciate your explanations
Thnx for the info and analysis. I stopped playing WoW midway through Cata, because Blizz continued making it impossible for time-limited players and explorer players with time limits to even get to end content. I never once minded that min-maxers existed or that new content favored that part of the market … BUT the way Blizz chose to nerf or even just remove old content was THE reason I gave up on the game in 2011, until Bliz reintroduced Classic in 2019.
But even with Classic, Bliz once again repeated its formula to nerf content before I could get to it due to time constraints and gameplay style.
I have yet to see any reason to play Retail again, because I can’t pick up on the storyline and because I still have no desire to rush the end content.
I believe Bliz has to rebuild its player base with people playing Classic versions before graduating “up” the ladder. To me that would add millions of potential new players SOME of whom who fit into the top 5% of min-maxers. 95% would just play the game AND keep paying the subs.
I was with you until MoP, MoP was the most fun until Legion, and since!
Great Idea for a video. :))
Keep producing amazing content like you always do :3
I know that 10 man raiding isn't really mmo oriented. but i like it in one way. 1-2 men dying is a wipe. I don't have that feeling in 40 nor 25 man.
This was a pretty good analysis. It's interesting that you separate Wrath from it's legacy. I feel like Wrath was great but it's legacy is as you said, something that plagues the game to this very day.
I think many people refuse to admit that Wrath, MoP and Legion made so many bad things for the long term of the game just because these expansions are quite enjoyable to play, mainly because of the class/playerpower. So, after these expansions are over, people blame every next expansion for crap that actually happend before. I am not saying that Cata, WoD or BfA are good expansions, its just not fair or true to blame them for all the bad things. "wow died with the king" is simply not true, if anything, wow starts dying with "the god of death".
Personally Mage Tower alone would move BFA to at least WoD's level.
everyone loves lists and so do I haha
